Without convenient storage space forCarnival equipment near to the eventfield the future of the Carnival may be

    in jeopardy!

Storage Space for Carnival EquipmentUrgently Required!

The Havens Annual Carnival is made possible because of the helpof local volunteers. Each year the volunteers attend several planningmeetings, liaise with sponsors, and deliver advertising & directional

banners & signs around the Havens.

Then on the day heave all the equipment out of storage to theCarnival fieldThe Ring rope & posts, chairs, tables, marquees, gazebos, audio equipment & speakers, carnival games & prizes,

teacups, plates, barbecue & foodthen at the end of day heaveit all back into storage for another year!

For a number of years the Havens Carnival has utilised storagespace for the equipment in the Broad Haven Community VillageHall, but have been advised by the Village Hall committee that this is

no longer possible and we have been asked to remove it byFebruary half term 2016.

Shifting all this equipment is by far the toughest part of the Carnivalevent for the hard-working volunteers- so, keeping the equipment

within a walking/carrying distance of the Carnival field is important. We are always trying to keep costs down so that more of the fundsraised can be invested in community projects.so cheap or free

    storage is preferable!

NEW STORAGE SPACE IS URGENTLY REQUIRED!If you can help, have some space to offer, or any ideas please

contact us [email protected] or contact /telephone a Carnival

THE HAVENS COMMUNITY ALLOTMENT AND GARDENS

Its February and no doubt many of the New Year Resolutions haveeither been abandoned or not even attempted due to the unrealisticexpectations we have at the start of January.

So let us come to your aid with the help of research from theUniversities of Westminster and Essex.

Results of their studies have shown that spending just half an hour aweek gardening can have both physical and mental health benefits.Just one session a week, they claim, can help tackle bad moods andencourage weight loss. So if you have ever wondered why your local

Allotment Group seem to be such a happy fit bunch here is thereason. Not only that, but allotmenteers and gardeners are supposedto be a confident chilled out species as well. According to theresearch just one session could result in significant improvements inboth self esteem and mood including reduced feelings of tension, depression, anger and confusion

So why spend a fortune on an unused gym membership when you

can take part in Green Exerciseat a fraction of the cost - 25 a yearis all we ask should you too want to enjoy the Allotment experience.

We may not be able to provide counselling but we can promise thefree benefits of, according to the research - social interaction, community inclusion and the opportunity for healthy eating all ofwhich promote well-being with the added bonus of one of the best

views in the Havens. Oh and not to forget the plentiful supply offarmyard manure.

Last month Berne Kershaw wished you Happy New Year and goodgardening may I now add my best wishes to you all forhappy and healthy gardening in 2016.

Wednesday 17th Lent Course Session 1 :The Rectory Walton. There will be two groups on meeting at 2:00 the other meetingat 6:30. The course has been written by the Vicar Rev Dianaand explores the link between Christmas and Easter in prayer, worship and word. All very welcome.

    VICARS THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

Lent is a solemn time of the year. A time for self examination, reflection and abstinence. It can be,a difficult time which makes usfeel unworthy and useless and so we turn away from the church, itsdemands and making us feel uncomfortable. But how would it be if we

saw Lent not so much as a time for giving things up as a time fortaking things on. A little more time for sitting quietly and connectingwith God. Some time for prayer. Some time for reading. Some timefor spiritual growth. God does not want us to feel like miserablesinners. He wants us to grow in spiritual stature, to grow in ourconnection and intimacy with Him in the grace of His glory. My prayerfor this Lent is that we find the strength of character and purpose todeepen in our relationship with the living risen Lord of light and life

and love. In order to do that we might even need to eat more chocolate. With love to you all Diana

    Broad Haven Village Hall News

Improvements to the kitchen in the village hall are starting during the February half term break. The kitchen facilities will be

improved in stages to hopefully cause as little disruption to users as is possible. As part of the improvements the village hall

committee have had to reluctantly ask the carnival committee to remove items that were being stored in the upstairs room

next to the boiler. This is due to insurance issues following new risk assessments. The locks to the hall are going to be

changed soon due to keys being mislaid / lost and new keys will then be provided to nominated key holders.

    Future Events

First Aid on Friday 5th February

Bella Voce four part ladies choir (Director Sarah Benbow and Accompanist: Seimon Morris) on Friday

    11th March.

    Easter Bingo Friday 18th March

With the Queens 90th Birthday Celebrations happening in June, it is planned to hold an Indoor Street

Party in the village hall on 21st June a community event (non fundraising). More details will be in next

months diary and if you would like to help in any way with this event please let us know or just come

along to our next meeting on 23rd February.
