“Learning
for
Life”
Thankyou to all the students who have worked well in class throughout the term. Also many thanks to the Teaching Staff and Teacher Aides who have helped the children achieve their out-comes. Well done everyone. Parent Teacher Interviews will be held during Week 2 of Term 2. A timetable will be sent out in Week 1. The interviews are an important opportunity for parents to speak with their children’s teachers. Teachers will be sharing the students progress in the first unit of work, reading, sight words, maths results and general feedback on their start to the school year. HASS (humanities and Social Sciences) begins in Term 2 in both classrooms. HASS has amalgamated history, geography and civics into one folio. Next term the Science topic will be Matter and Chemical changes. The 3-6 students will be involved also in Wonder of Science. During the term a University student will be conducting experi-ments with all the students. We have decided to delete some of the tuckshop items in order to make it hassle free for the parents who are working at tuckshop. The items no longer on the menu are: Pizza (gluten free) Pasta (gluten free) Chicken salad wrap Rice paper rolls The chicken, lettuce and mayo roll will now be a burger instead. Thankyou so much to the parents who have volunteered their time to work in the tuckshop. It is very much appreciated. Another thankyou must go to Jessica and Glenda who unpacked and sorted the Pie Drive orders. We had a lovely couple of hours with Hannaford School on Fri-day. All students participated in Art and Sport activities. Next term Hannaford will be joining us in activities here at The Gums. The 2017 P&C AGM will be held on Wednesday 29th March at 3:15pm. Everyone is welcome to attend. On Thursday 30th and Friday 31st March the teaching staff, (Tori,
Catherine & I) are all participating in Professional Development in the library. We will be reviewing and editing the Pedagogical Framework. Also we will be updating the Reading plan and trans-forming it into a Reading program to align with the Explicit Im-provement Agenda. Mrs Patti Geldard will be here to cover the Thursday and Friday and Mrs Kate Taylor will be here on the Thursday. On Friday 31st March students are able to come in free dress instead of school uniform. Book Fair began this week and will end on Friday 21 April (Week 1, Term 2). All purchases from the Book Fair give the school com-mission which provides the opportunity to add books to the school library. There are some great books on offer so come on in and have a look. Just a reminder that the Tara & District and Small Schools Cross Country and Ballgames Carnival will occur on Friday 5 May. The Cross Country run includes varying distances which are as fol-lows: Born Distance 2012 300m 2011 600m 2010 & 2009 1km 2008 & 2007 2km 2006 & 2005 3km The Staff and I would like to wish you a very happy, relaxing East-er Holiday Break. If you are travelling - please travel safely. School resumes TUESDAY 18th April.
Regards, Sue

Newsletter folders - PLEASE ENSURE THAT THESE ARE RETURNED TO THE SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY. These folders are to be used as the main communication tool between families and the school. Check you child’s bag regu-larly for these folders, not just on newsletter day as this is how letters, notices, receipts etc will be sent home. Your child just needs to hand it back in to the office or to a staff member.
