ALL Grif fith University Gold Coast students are part of the Student Guild. Whether you are domestic, international, full-time or part-time we are here for you! We are overseen by your Student Guild Board solely comprised of Griffith Uni Gold Coast students – their role is to represent you.

Whether you want to play spor t, join a cultural club, volunteer at our events, utilise the intercampus bus or you just want to send a fax; the Student Guild is the place for you.

We provide far too many services for them to be listed on this single page so please keep flicking through to find out how we will support you throughout your Griffith days. Head to our website gugcstudentguild.com.au, ‘like’ us on Facebook or follow us on Instagram!

Your Student Guild is here for you, the students, to provide you with activities and events while supporting you in various ways! The Student Guild provides most things non-academic with a little bit of academic support as well.

As we are governed by the S tuden t Gu i ld Board we thought it was pretty important to let you know who they are and what they do.

The S tuden t Gui ld Board c o n s i s t s o f 14 G r i f f i t h University Gold Coast students who have exp re s sed an interest in the welfare of their fellow students. These students are your representatives. They know what students want and they tell us about it.

Elections for Board positions are held every year in semester two with elected students being a board member for a 2 year term.

CLUBS & SOCIETIESThere are currently over 50 Cultural and Sporting clubs af f i l iated with the Student Guild. If none of these clubs suit you though, create your own!

The Student Guild Cultural Clubs are formed and operated by a group of people sharing common interests which come together in regular forums to participate in a range of activi t ies. These consist of various cultures, academics and hobbies.

There are also a number of sporting clubs ranging from those who compete regularly in Gold Coast leagues, as well as in regional, state and national level competitions, to recreational sporting clubs who train for general fitness.

Students can also compete in the year’s biggest sporting event, the Australian University Games!

No club for you? Why not start your own?! Running a club is not only a fantastic experience, but you are also able to share your interests with others. The Student Guild provides ful l assistance to establish a club or society - just come in and ask!

STUDENT SUPPORTStudying at Universi ty can be a dif f icul t and stressful t ime. At the Student Guild we understand that dealing with issues that arise and understanding policies and procedures can be extremely confusing and overwhelming. The Student Support sector of the Student Guild also provides up to eight non-academic bursar ies to the va lue o f $1, 000. Applications are sought from students from low income families, Indigenous Aus t ra l ians , I n te r na t iona l s tuden t s , s tuden t s wi th a disability or ongoing illness, students with significant caring responsibilities and those from rural or regional areas of Australia.

To assist you, we provide your breakfast! From Monday - Friday throughout exam weeks there will be a variety of food to choose from provided free from the Student Guild.

The Pavilion (G32) provides students with an area to chill out with their friends or make use of the sporting facilities available. There is an outdoor ba s ke tba l l cou r t , beach volleyball court and two tennis courts.

The courts have been provided for the use of Griffith University students and staff and bookings are required. Hire is charged at an hourly rate with lights available on all courts for night bookings at an additional cost.

Up to ten sporting scholarships are offered annually by the Student Guild to assist Griffith University Gold Coast (GUGC) students who excel in their chosen sport or within their club on campus. Successful s c h o l a r s h i p r e c i p i e n t s are expec ted to promote GUGC spor t through club participation and representing Griffith University at Australian University Sport events.Information on scholarship criteria and the application process can be found on our website.

The S tuden t Gui ld mixed social spor t program gives you the oppor tunity to join our competi t ion as par t of an organised team or as an individual and we can place you into a team. Our social sport program is a great way to meet people with similar interests in a social environment whilst also keeping fi t and healthy!

U n i v e r s i t y G a m e s a n d Championsh ips are in te r -university sporting competitions involving universities from all over Australia. They are a great opportunity to represent your un ive r s i t y and mee t people f rom a l l over the country as well as people with whom you share a campus - an experience definitely not to be missed while you are at uni!

Cheap lunches?! Live music?! Great bargains?! Head to the Student Guild Marke t Days he ld eve r y second Wednesday outside the Library from 10am – 3pm. You wil l enjoy a range of stalls including a wide variety of food, jewellery, clothing, confectionery, beauty products and much more!

From the traditional owners of th is land to those who have come f rom a round the world, this is a day of cul tural signif icance to al l who call Australia home; be it temporary or permanent. By participating in the Gold Coast Harmony Day celebrations o n Tu e sday 18 Ma r c h , you wil l learn about many different cultures and have the opportunity to experience their cultural activities and taste their cuisine.

The Nat iona l Campus DJ Comp is one of Australia’s p r e m i e r n a t i o n a l D J competitions, backed by over 30 university and TAFE student unions throughout Australia. The annual competition gives student DJs the oppor tunity to mix it with the industry’s best, giving them valuable experience and feedback from seasoned DJs and helping them to hone their skills.

This year, Friday 9 May, the Student Guild is hosting the comp! So bring your beats and mix your way to the top.

The National Campus Band Comp (NCBC) is the largest live band competition in the southern hemisphere. The 21 year old competition sees up to 400 bands from over 40 institutions entertain countless s t uden t s , s ta f f and mos t importantly; record companies and the media!

Previous winners and entrants have included: Eskimo Joe, The Vines, Jebediah, Grinspoon, Frenzal Rhomb, The Vasco Era and GUGC’s very own The Orchard!

So come along on Friday 22 August and check it out!

WHAT’S ON?

Wednesday 9 Apri l gives students the oppor tunity to learn how they can contribute to our earth’s sustainability. E n v i r o nmen t a l l y f r i e nd l y o rgan i sa t i on s w i l l s ha re information and techniques with students throught the day.

The Student Gui ld wil l be holding our very own Relay for Life right here on campus on Saturday and Sunday 18-19 October!

Relay for Life is an incredible overnight event that is an opportunity for family, friends and fellow students to gather w i t h t he commun i t y and celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones los t to cancer, and join the fight against a disease that takes too much.So recruit your team today!

Need transport between the Griffith University Nathan and Gold Coast campuses? Our Intercampus Bus can help you! Running several times a day for 5 days a week, during teaching weeks, you are sure to get where you need to be on time, every time!

Our accommodation service makes it easier for you to find accommodation that suits your needs. Whether you would like to stay on campus or off campus, we’ve got you covered. All available information on accommodation can be found on our website or the noticeboard outside the Student Guild (G07). The Student Guild also provide a free mini-bus service, which commences two weeks prior to Week 1 of each semester, to assist you in finding your accommodation. If you need a lift to inspect your potential new home, let us know!

SPECIALISTSERVICES

The JP service is offered during teaching weeks on Tuesday - Friday from 11.00am - 1.00pm.

At the beginning of semester 2 the Student Guild provides accountants to assist you with lodging your tax returns.

This is a free service for all Griffith undergraduate students who require assistance with their assignments in regards to spel l ing, grammar and sentence contruction.
