The first Protestant missionary arrives in Cambodia.

1923

The Cambodian government forces missionaries to withdraw. The Khmer evangelical church numbers less than 1,000 members.

1965

Eighty OMF workers from 20 nations serve in Cambodia. The church comprises more than 250,000 believers and 3,000 churches.

2016

OMF sends five members to Phnom Penh in response to the church’s urgent needs.

1974

With the Khmer Rouge in power, more than 1.5 million Cambodians lose their lives. Ninety percent of Christians and almost all Christian leaders are martyred or flee the country. Thousands of Cambodian refugees come to Christ in neighboring countries.

1975-1979

The first complete Khmer Bible is

published.

1954OMF and other

organizations re-enter Cambodia.

1991The Cambodian government gives OMF permission to do religious and humanitarian work.

1994A new regime rises. Missionaries return to Cambodia and the church grows.

War begins to break out.

1970The Khmer Rouge assumes control of the country and all missionaries are forced to leave Cambodia. The church numbers 10,000.
