Looking back…. By Courtney Blackmon

If I could go back to my freshman year and do it all over again, I would do it in a heart-beat. With the knowledge I have now, I would not only be a smarter person but I would do things differently. To you underclassmen reading this, start getting involved in clubs and as many extra-curricular activities as possible. Do not just settle for being a “member,” be a contributing member with your time and your ideas. Don’t over-commit yourself. Know your lim-its. On the other hand, do over-commit yourself to your academics. Push yourself to excel in all your classes. Enroll in as many honors classes as you can. If you are having trouble in a particular area or subject, seek help from your teachers and your friends. Push your-self to do well in the subjects you enjoy and practice in the areas where you need extra help. I was once asked, “Why do you keep on try-ing? Why keep on practicing with lessons that don’t appeal to you?” “Simple. Practice makes perfect! Practice also teaches you discipline. If you do not persevere, you will never know how much you can accomplish. Even though it is very tiring and frustrating at times, I have learned to keep on trying no matter what!” Another important aspect to keep in mind is that you should not wait to compile your re-sume — start now listing your accomplish-ments, classes, and activities. Senior year will be here before you know it and you will be so busy with senior events that you might overlook important resume facts!

By Keaton Glass

My friend Tanner Hunter has always been an inspiration to me, but through this test in his life he has impacted so many people in such an amazing way. One question I’ve heard so many people ask Tanner: “How do you stay so positive?” “I focus on the positive aspects of this event in my life, plus I have incredible support from my family, my friends, my doctors and therapists, church, school, Leeds and so many other communities. Sometimes it is difficult to deal with when it hits me that this happened while I was doing something I love. At least it didn’t happen as the result of something stupid like getting hit by a drunk driver. “I have never questioned ‘Why me?’. I know God has a plan and my faith has never wa-vered. Sometimes, I wish He had chosen another way for me to make an impact, but I know His way is superior! “A huge supporting factor has been that my true friends still treat me the same way. Kea-ton still jokes with me like he always did. My friends still include me in all their activi-ties like going to the movies, just hanging out, going to the prom, and, of course, the main event — graduation on May 24th!” We still fight crime on a regular basis like the super heroes we are!” Now you readers know where the idea for the new movie The Avengers originated! “Huntingdon is honoring my scholarships through next year, meanwhile I plan to pick up some J SCC credits.

“I may not be as free to do things I used to do, but I am fine...I am look-ing forward to seeing my friends this summer at Shepherd Center in PTOT (Physical Therapy Occupational Ther-apy). I’ll be there for about 6 weeks in intensive training. I can still do eve-rything; now I just do it in a different way! “Moving forward, I can’t wait to get my arms going strong again. I’m stay-ing focused on getting better and pro-gressing one small step at a time — I’m focused on the actual step!”

I had just started my 10th year at LHS. It was the second week of school and I re-member when a student called the old school and told me there was a bomb. I called *69 to trace the number. Leeds Po-lice and bomb sniffing dogs from Vestavia arrived. Everyone was out on the front lawn for over two hours in the heat. Stu-dents were using cell phones to call par-ents. I had the check out pad on the lawn with me. Mr. Briskey was walking the school like a panther because he was so mad. The Leeds Police traced the number and watched the video from the Shell Sta-tion pay phone in front of Wal-Mart and arrested a past student for the “prank”?
