SECURITY UPDATE

Working in occupations that involve emergency response can be very dangerous. We are committed to doing our part to care for those who care for us, so remember these important rules when approaching authorized emergency vehicles on or around campus: Upon the immediate approach of an authorized emergency vehicle displaying flashing emergency lights or when the driver is giving audible signal by siren, exhaust whistle or bell, the driver of every other vehicle shall immediately yield the right of way and move to the right-hand edge or curb of the roadway clear of any intersection and remain stopped until the authorized emergency vehicle has passed.

When approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle displaying flashing emergency lights, unless otherwise directed, the driver of a vehicle shall:

If reasonably safe to do so, drive in a lane not adjacent to where the authorized emergency vehicle is stopped, decrease the speed of the vehicle to a speed that is reasonable and prudent under the circumstances and proceed with caution; and/or be prepared to stop.

Tunisian Graduation Helicopter pilots and mechanics, known as maintainers with the Tunisian military participated in a graduation ceremony held at the Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell Performing Arts Center. The foreign military personnel in the northern Africa country have been training to fly and maintain Kiowa helicopters with Integration Innovation Inc., or I3, since Aug. I3 is based in Huntsville, Alabama, but has a new training center near the airport in Roswell. I3 has contracts with the State Department and U.S. Army to train foreign military personnel. The company previously worked with the Afghanistan and Iraq militaries.

Tunisians graduated on December 21, 2016 from the I3 program. They were hosted on the ENMU-Roswell campus for four months.

SPRINGREGISTRATION CELEBRATION

ENMU-Roswell hosted a Registration Day for students on January 12th. Students were able to enjoy food, fun and door prizes. The United Blood Services also held a blood drive during the event and had a successful turnout.

DIRECTOR - CWCD Vickie Thomas has joined the ENMU-Roswell team as the Director for the Center for Workforce and Community Development (CWCD). Vickie comes to us from the Dona Ana Community College where she was the Director of Customized Training and Community Education. She also worked for the New Mexico State University system as the grant writer. Ms. Thomas completed her Bachelors of Science degree in Education from NMSU and worked for the Gadsten school district for a while as a high school math teacher. In 2010 she completed her Masters of Arts in Agriculture Extension Education, also from NMSU. Vickie says that “it’s been an adventure being a new employee after working for same institution for 18 years”. You may drop by her office in the OTC 101 Admin Suite or call her at x-164.

The Student Services office is pleased to welcome Sheri Jones as the new One Stop Generalist- Financial Aid. Sheri began her position on December 12, 2016. On campus, Sheri will assist students with the financial aid process. Sheri’s office is located in the Student Services building. Her phone extension is 401.

Health Education would like to welcome Julie Morrow as the new Nursing Assistant Instructor for the Nursing Department. She holds a BSN in Nursing from ENMU. Stop by and welcome her in the HSC Building room 151 She may be reached at extension 237.

The Technical Education Department would like to welcome Martina Uranga as the new Administrative Assistant IV. She moved to Roswell 2 years ago from Sherman, Texas. Her previous employer was Texas Instruments Incorporated in Dallas, Texas. She worked for them

for 20 years. She holds an Associate of Applied Science degree from El Paso Community College. You may greet her in the OTC building. Her extension is 337.

New Staff (cont’d.) The Health Sciences Respiratory Therapy Program is pleased to welcome Michael Benko as the new Director of Clinical Education. The position was previously held (on an interim basis) by Mavis Williams.

Michael began his position on January 1. Michael previously worked as a Critical Care and Neonatal Pediatric Specialist at UMC in El Paso, Texas. Michael holds a BA degree from Patten University.

On campus, Michael will handle all clinical aspects of respiratory care students. Michael’s office is located in the HSC building, room 117.His phone extension is 166.
