Research Interests:

Imbalance of body weight and energy balance results in metabolic complications such as obesity and

diabetes. Understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the ability of the central

nervous system to regulate energy balance and glucose∙insulin homeostasis is an area of active

investigation. My lab focuses on the neural circuitry that regulates body’s autonomic functions such

as body wight regulation, food intake, energy expenditure and glucose∙insulin homeostasis. Currently

we are using interdisciplinary approaches including mouse genetics, cell and molecular biology, and

electrophysiology to dissect molecular mechanism responsible for the regulation of whole body

energy homeostasis.

Eligibility and Qualification

1) Applicant must meet one of the following three conditions:

(1) A foreign national whose parents are both foreign nationals

(2) Completion of at least 16 years of education in foreign countries (equivalent to elementary, middle, high

school and undergraduate)

2) Applicants must meet one of the two conditions for their desired degree program:

※ Master’s Degree Program:

(1) A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or expected to receive a bachelor’s

degree before the admissions period of the term the applicant is applying to)

(2) Educational attainment equivalent to bachelor’s degree approved by laws

(1) A master’s degree from an accredited college or university (or expected to receive a master’s degree

Application Requirements

3. Two letters of Recommendation (Written by two professors from a previously attended university or

graduate school, No standard form provided)

6. Education Record Request Form (Download from the Graduate School website) (Not required for

8. Verification of Deposit (VOD): Student’s or sponsor’s VOD of a minimum of US $10,000 (balanced in the

bank over at least one month); or one original copy of proof for remittance or money exchange of US

$10,000. Expiration date of VOD must be until the end of the March for spring semester applicants, and the

end of the September for fall semester applicants.

Korea at the time of application).

(d) One copy of the applican’s family registration (applicable to the international applicants of Korean

2. Those who have completed 16 years of education in a foreign country (not applicable to the applicants

whose both parents or legal guardian are non-Korean citizen(s))

▶ Applicants in this category must submit transcripts and proof of graduation that cover their education

period (i.e., elementary, middle, high school and university).

3. Additional Requirements for Scholarship (Full Scholarship Application)

notarized seal from the recommenders (professors)

Important Reminders

1. All required documents must be original. Documents in non-Korean or non-English languages must be

accompanied with certified English translations.

; If applicant has only one copy of original documents, please submit a copy of the original with certified

English translation after it has been notarized.

2. Application fees are non-refundable and all application documents will not be returned.

3. Applicants are not allowed to apply more than two departments. (not applicable)

4. If any of the submitted documents turn out to be false or counterfeit, admission to Yonsei University will

be revoked.

5. Students with a D-2 visa who wish to stay in Korea for more than 90 days must visit a local immigration

office or branch office and apply for an alien registration card within 90 days of entry into Republic of Korea.

6. Applicants will be excluded from the admission evaluation process if any of the required documents are

not submitted within the application period.

7.The applicant’s English name and date of birth must match the information on his/her passport.

8. Any urgent notices will be sent through text messages and e-mails. Applicant should include parent’s or

legal guardian’s cell phone number and e-mail address.

9. New students are not allowed to take any leave, but for military service or illness with proved documents,

in the first semester.

Scholarship

1. Tuition and admission fees: waived

2. Financial support includes 600,000 KRW per month for Master’s degree, and 800,000 KRW per month for

Doctoral degree students.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for academic exchange agreement and cooperative curriculum

agreement with the Graduate School of Yonsei University

The university dormitory is available and the graduate students are eligible for application.
