At the Benefit Softball Game for para- lyzed Lynbrook resident Chris Tranquellino, which was held back in June, hero New York City Police Officer Steven McDonald was on hand to add support to this benefit for Chris. Joining them are left to right, Mayor William P. Geier, and Trustees Eugene Natale and Steve Grogan. Trus- tee Grogan, Co-Chairman of this Lynbrook Week event, reminds residents that the fund for Chris will soon be dosed and anyone who has not contributed to Chris' fund can do so by mailing a contribution to the Christopher Tranquellino Fund, c/o Village Hall, One Columbus Drive, Lynbrook, N.Y. 11563. it's still not too late to help the Rocks celebrate Homecoming as the Rocks meet Jericho on the gridiron at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 15, 1988, at Her- manson Field at East Rock- away High School to begin the festivities for Homecom- ing 1988. Telephone reservations, however, are requested for the Gala Homecoming Celebration starting at 5 p.m. at the Main Street Firehouse even for those alumni and other Rock sup- porters planning to pay at the door. Telephone Genie Kubat at 599-5627 to make your reservations. "Come home, alumni!" is the call being issued by the East Rockaway High School Alumni Association for the events of the day. First of course is the Annual Homecoming Football Game. Donations will once again be sought at the game for the Louis Cosenza Memorial Fund. Alumni Homecoming Chairmen Genie Kubat and Ed Carey have announced details of the Gala Home- coming Celebration which will follow the game from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Main Street Firehouse. The even- ing will include a buffet supper, an open bar, and a local Dee-Jay for $26 per person (with reservations required in advance). Announcement of the winner of the 1988 Alumnus of the Year Award will also take place at the affair that evening. Of course, 1988 isn't exactly over, but planning for the summer season usually beg- ins late in March wheii ideas lor the Frolic are swirling around preparing for the opening of the Museum on Memorial Day and continu- ing until Labor Day when the doors close and exhibits are "put to bed" for the chil- lier months. It was a great slice ol the year 1988 with the celebra- tion ol the 300th birthday of the old building. Numerous meetings were held and the local organizations, clubs, churches and schools all out did themselves to make the lestivites a great success. Yes, 1988 was a great year! However, due to the financial success ol the Anniversary Program, there will be some updating and extra work put in lor the museum during the Fall and Winter in preparation lor the 1989 opening. The lool display has almost become a "catch all" lor donations ol just old and lare tools, without much rhyme or reason in their arrangment. ";Bob Symp- son of the Museum Com- mittee is contacting experts in the field of antique tools to advise better displays and having more signs so that the uniformed visitors may become more informed. The Bay exhibit, which was one of the first to be set up back in the early sixties, will have fresh "water" for the old fisherman to sail his boat on and the sand replaced. Cat- tails and rushes will be added and, perhaps a spo- tlight put on the old fisher- man. ifallgoesas planned, a senior Boy Scout and a group of helpers from I'roop 332 of St. Raymond Church will be doing most of the work. Showcases will be changed and updated, and during the cold winter ladies of the committee will be identifying and marking gowns and uniforms stored in the Senior Citizen's House. All this and more. Much of this enthusiasm has been inspired by the wonderful cooperation and work of East Rockawayites during our 300th Centennial. deadline of 15. 1988, in which residents of Lyn- brook may return their Village survey has been extended, according to Mayor William P. Geier. In an effort to better understand the views of the taxpayers and res- idents of Lynbrook, the Village Board sent a survey outlinifig six proposals currently un- der consideration by the Board. All residents were asked to rate the projects according to their importance, to give the Board direction for the coming fiscal year. Although most res- idents have received their surveys, which were mailed from the Lynbrook Post Office on September 14, 1988, mansome residents have indicated that their survey vyas not del- ivered. With this in mind, the Village Board has decided to extend the October 15, 1988, deadline until October 22.1988. Any resident who has not received his survey is asked to call Village Hall at (516) 599- 8300 immediately. dinner for two at a number of local restaurants plus a basket of cheer. Louis Cosenza Game The tradition continues, as the East Rockaway Rocks football team play in 'their annual Cosenza Scho- larship Game on October 15th. It is a tri,bute to a man who will never be forgotten for his special qualities that were not only limited to teaching and coaching. Please turn out to support not only the Rocks, but the 2 Student Athlete Scholar- ships that are given to a deserving boy and girl. This is in conjunction with the Alumni Homecom- ing, but if you cannot attend the game you may mail your donation to the East Rock- away High School, Ocean Ave., East Rockaway, N.Y. 11518. Make your checks pay- able to the Cosenza Scholar- ship Fund. Kiwanis To Honor Ferretti and Kiermeier The Kiwanis Club of East Rockaway is proud to announce their annual awards dinner to be held on November 4th 1988, at the Main Street Fire House in East Rockaway at 8:00 PM. The Honorees are Andrew Ferretti, a past fire chief of The East Rockaway Fire Department, as man of the year. Mr. Ferretti has resided in East Rockaway since 1944 and has been active in many civic activi- ties, including founder member of the East Rocka- way High School Alumni. The Citizen of the year is John Kiermeier, Chief of the East Rockaway Auxiliary Police, in which he has been Andrew Ferretti active for more then 18 years. A resident of our town since 1963, Mr. Kier- meier is also involved with the police athletic league where he does some coaching.
