the No.1 golfer on the entire planet at this point,

Rory McIlroy has won two majors, raked in $5 million in prize money

this year alone, sits near the top of the money list

for the PGA tour and has achieved major fame in

the game, even inspiring others to take up the sport

- all by the age of just 23.

McIlroy took up golfi ng exceptionally early; by the age of two he had a club in his hand and was in love with the game. He credits his father in particular for nurturing and encouraging his love of the sport, which he excelled in at junior level.

wins followed at the 2002 Ulster Boys championship when aged 13 and at 16 he became the youngest ever player to triumph in the Irish Amateur closed championship.

Just two years after focussing fully on amateur golf McIlroy turned professional, taking up his European Tour card in 2007 having won fi ve amateur titles. A 19-under par score secured his fi rst professional win at the Dubai Desert classic, earning him a handsome €323,000 for his eff orts.

McIlroy made his fi rst Majors appearance in 2009 when he ended T20 at The Masters and later that year secured his fi rst ever top-10 in a Major, placing T10 at the Us open. He was fast becoming one of the most recognisable and talented young golfers around and he inevitably joined the PGA Tour at the end of that season, ranking 9th in the world at the time.

what Rory could go on to achieve is remarkable; he has a long way to go to be ranked as one of the all-time greats of course, but even a single further victory at a Major would put him in esteemed company as one of less than 30 men to have ever won three.

The Ryder cup is just around the corner and McIlroy will be one of the golfers who holds the most interest amongst spectators, having been victorious in both Junior (2004) and full versions (2010) of the event.

Despite having achieved so much already, there is plenty more to come from Rory McIlroy.

sources: rorymcilroy.com, PGA Tour, Golf club Management,EsPN, yahoo sports.

A fi rst Tour victory was not long in coming as McIlroy won the wells fargo championship, picking up over $1.1million in prize money in the process.

Big success came the following year when Rory McIlroy, aged just 21, won the Us open. His 16-under score was a new Us open record, making him the youngest winner since 1923. clearly, the win gave Rory the taste for big victories.

2012 started well as he recorded top-3 fi nishes in his fi rst three tournaments, including his third win on the PGA Tour at the Honda classic. Questions were asked of his form and focus through the middle of the year as he failed to make the cut in three out of four tournaments but McIlroy answered them in style with a stunning victory at the PGA championship in August, his second Major in the space of just one year and two months.

only fi ve short years since turning professional and McIlroy has already begun to conquer the sport he loves. He has the entire golfi ng world at his feet, the adulation of fans and a high-profi le celebrity relationship - not to mention over $10 million in PGA Tour prize money accumulated along the way.

Designed and built for more speed and more distance, the new titleist 913 drivers deliver more performance with the most precise fi t available to all serious golfers through an unparalleled combination of new innovations and titleist’s industry-leading SureFit tourhosel technology.

featuring a high-speed, forged face insert, the new Titleist 913D2 and 913D3 drivers are the fastest, most consistent drivers Titleist has ever designed, delivering maximum ball speeds over a large area of the face.

They are also Titleist’s most playable and forgiving drivers, primarily the result of improved launch conditions from a lower, more optimal center of gravity (cG) position, a new rear surefit Tour weight and the fi tting precision provided by the surefit Tour adjustable hosel.

“The new 913D2 and 913D3 drivers off er the highest performance of any adjustable drivers on the market, particularly when it comes to speed and forgiveness,” said Dan stone, Vice President of Research and Development, Titleist Golf clubs. “Every serious golfer, from tour players to amateurs of all skill levels, will experience more distance potential and better driving performance with 913.”

THE sIMPlE wAy...One of the biggest questions a golf coach is asked is, “how should I move my body when I am making a golf swing?”

one of the main reasons for this is that much has been written over the years about so many different theories regarding the perfect swing. To mention a few: turn your body, hinge your wrists, transfer your weight etc. etc.

once you start thinking about all these things whilst trying to make a golf swing, which by the way only takes two seconds to make, you are heading for disaster. I am sure we have all been in this situation thinking about all of these things on the course, but let’s be honest this really is information overload.

The first thought has to be we need a consistent swing and in order to achieve that we must have a consistent thought process and focus. with too many thoughts we can’t achieve this.

first of all let’s start to think about how our onboard computer works when we are making the golf swing. our onboard computer is the mind. our mind is split in to two sections, the conscious and subconscious. Don’t worry i’m not going to give you a psychology lesson, well not yet anyway! There are, however, certain things about how our mind works that we need to understand.

The subconscious is the most powerful part of our mind. Basically, this keeps us alive. It takes care of all of the workings in our body without us knowing or thinking about. This is the part of the mind that we really need to get in touch with if we really want to progress at golf. All too often when we play golf and when we make the golf swing we are constantly trying to put our bodies in to a position or focusing on a certain part of the body to produce the swing. In my mind this cannot work effectively all of the time.

I am going to show and explain to you a simple exercise that can get the body working in a way that you won’t have to think about physical movements. your focus will be only on the clubhead.

first of all what I would like you to do is to take a club, and it really doesn’t matter which one and hold it at about waist height as illustrated in the picture (pic 1).

from this position, I would like you to start making a movement with the following thought in your mind. If I wanted to make a simple backswing in order to return the club to its starting point which be the easiest way for me to move the club? Now I know this may sound a little too simple but what I would like you to do is to give it a try. As you are doing this I would like you to be aware of how the club is moving in your swing. Do you notice any change in height as the club is swinging? what do you feel is the relationship between the way the club is moving and your body?

I can imagine that you will feel very little change in the height of the movement of the club during the backswing and equally as you return the club to the starting point. In your mind how do you see and feel the club moving? I believe we could imagine that the club is swinging in a semi circular motion.

so how do we now complete the swing? Imagine for me now that the club isn’t going to return to that point and stop, it is going to swing through that point and continue naturally forwards. what do you notice now about the swing? How does the club continue? Does the height that the club is swinging at change? I believe that if you allow the club to swing through naturally it will remain on a constant arc. so as we make the swing all as one movement effectively we are no longer making a semi circular motion we are making a complete circle with the club (pics 2 & 3).

After we have made some swings from the waist height position it’s time to take our normal golfing setup and allow ourselves to make the same motion focusing only on the clubhead making a nice big circle around our body (pics 4 & 5).

you will most definitely notice some different physical feelings. I am sure you will start to feel how freely your body is turning. you will also start to feel how freely your hands are moving and how your body weight is transferring. All of these things start to happen by focusing your conscious mind only on the clubhead and not thinking how your body has to move, your subconscious is taking care of that for you. It is amazing that all of these things can start to happen purely because of your focus on the clubhead. Next time you are on the range give it a try. Then take it to the course you will start to realise how easily you will start to make the golf swing that you have wanted to make without all of those thoughts cluttering your mind. It really does work.

As I have written in previous articles we really must start to think about things in a much easier and simpler way...

Green Lamb is renowned throughout Europe as aleading ladies golf fashion brand. And in the lastcouple of years, that reputation has expandedthrough the USA.

Sophistication is a key element of the Spring 2013collection. Mixing sophistication with performance &quality and you get where Green Lamb sees itsunique position in the market. Easy care fabrics withquick dry and UV properties are the main stay for shirtfabrics with performance checks and plains, with addedspandex, for ends.

“The added sophistication comes in the detail in everyproduct- flashes of gold, luxury fabrics give soft handfeel, a splash of check trim. Nice touches that inspire ourdesigners" says Sales Director Charles Casson.

There is more colour available for 2013 also- 5 colourstories compared to 3 in 2012. "We've reduced the sizeof the collections to get more colour into stores. That wasthe general feedback from our customer base and I think itworks well" says Casson.

Green Lamb has also added an interesting new collection for Spring 2013- a compact ClassicCollection for accounts that don't specialise in ladies fashion. "We get feedback all the time ofshops that are nervous to stock ladies fashion and in an effort to assist these potential accounts wehave introduced a compact ladies collection of 4 shirts, 3 cottons vests and some socks/visors. Allco-ordinated in a simple package". Sounds just what the industry needs in these uncertain times.Nice to see a bit of innovation from one of the market leaders in ladies fashion.

The brand image is getting a makeover for Spring2013. ‘We want to get back to our core values:sophistication, quality and performance." Thesethree words keep coming up when talking to PeterDwyer, Marketing Director for Green Lamb.Dwyer is going back his roots in marketing/designand relishing the new role. "Hopefully our newimages will give people an indication of the directionwe're taking the brand. A little sexier, a lot moresophisticated with more impact in every shot." .Looking at these images from the Spring 2013photoshoot, it's easy to see what he means.

"I think we realised early on we needed to differentiate ourselves from the pack with Dwyers & Co. Notjust with product, which is key, but also with our branding and promotion. Dwyers & Co is a niche brand, trousers, shorts and belts, so we can afford to take risks." Says Marketing Director Peter Dwyer. "Also, with our heritage in the brand and clothing, Dwyers & Co is very close to our hearts, so it makes it a bitspecial". Peter and his brother Alan are the sixth generation of Dwyers involved in the clothingindustry in Cork City on the southern coast of Ireland.

“Although we are extremely proud ofour past and traditions, it doesn't meanwe can rest on our laurels. In that

respect Dwyers & Co is a forwardmoving brand with a rich heritage. We pride ourselves that we use

stretch in every trouser we make”,says Peter, ‘We believe it makes our customers more

GREEN LAMBSPRING 2013

sophisticationqualityperformance

We pride ourselves that we use

stretch in every trouser we make”,says Peter, ‘We believe it makes our customers more

comfortable on the course. All of our fabrics are easy careand non iron because at the end of the day it is all about customer

experience’.

Lo Romero Golf is set in an amazing location, close to the

Mediterranean and Mar Menor Sea, it enjoys a mild climate

and is close to small ports and towns. Located within easy

reach of both Alicante and San Javier, Murcia airports, via the

AP7 motorway, Lo Romero is a wonderful 18 hole golf

course, with a variety of holes, giving some spectacular vistas

out to the sea.

Lo Romero Golf boasts possibly one of the most

challenging holes on the Costa Blanca. The 18th hole is a par 4 of 356m (from the yellow

tees) played from an elevated tee which looks down onto the island green. The lake

surrounding the green calls for the golfer to play a well struck, accurate shot onto the green to walk away with a par on a hole which will be etched into the golfers memory for a lifetime.

The modern golf course Marina Golf Mojacar, designed by Ramon Espinosa, was inaugurated/opened in spring 2000, in an extraordinary place, in the coast of Mojacar. It has been the object of important upgrades/betterments/improvements in trees and gardens, until converting itself into a garden to play golf next to the sea.spectacular views the length of its run. None more so than the unique driver hit on hole 4.

A newcomer to Murcia, it is a 9 hole course which is planned to be extended to 18 holes at some time in the future. This golf course was designed by Jose Gancedo who has developed a course around the lakes and ramblas with some diff icult approach shots into small undulating greens. The Par 5 5th hole is a great example of this where what off the tee looks like a birdie opportunity can turn into a bogey even if you hit the green in regulation. The par 5 3rd hole is stroke index 3 and probably the hardest hole on the course at 535m and usually into a stiff wind.

The 18 hole, par 72 course was designed by Jorge Gallén and Enric soler who have created an excellent challenge of golf by making the best of the hills, valleys, woodland, lakes and streams. The par 4, 11th is only 292m long but the fairway is very narrow and tree lined making even a strategic layup a diff icult shot. The signature hole at lo Romero has to be the par 4, 18th hole; you drive off from the top of the hill leaving a mid/short iron into the island green. This hole has ruined many a good card but if you come off with a parit will be the talking point inthe clubhouse.

one of the newest courses in the area, it was designed by Blake stirling and Marco Martín and uses the hills and valleys to create a superb challenge of golf. The course has a small stream running through it connecting the fi ve lakes which, along with the deep gorges, make choosing the right club a must if you’re to score well. The golf course has its own spacious and comfortable club House, shop, changing rooms and bag storage room – without forgetting the magnifi cent restaurant with its large terrace from where 12 of the 18 holes can be seen.

A challenging 18 hole course with a second 9 hole course. The 18 hole course was designed by Manual ferry Ruiz and opened in 2000, so it is now a quite mature. The fairways are wide but are tree lined which penalises any wayward drives into the greens. The greens are quite big so it is important to take note of the pin positions, a pin located at the back of the green can add two clubs to your selection otherwise you will come up short and be left with a 40ft put.The vegetation is a feature of the course as well as two lakes that complicate matters on a few holes.

theGOLFeRSMAG.cOM OCT - DEC 201246

The biennial event sees America pitch its collective golfi ng talent against that of Europe, with a match play format of eight foursomes (alternating strokes between players on each team), eight fourballs (each player with their own ball) and 12 singles.

Much of the appeal of the Ryder cup is of course that one team must play to win; an overall draw sees the reigning champions of the previous cup retain their trophy, only an outright victory is enough to wrench it from them. That is the task which faces America this year, after Europe were the victors by one point at celtic Manor Resort, wales.

Unlike in the Majors - or indeed any other PGA or European Tour tournament - there is no prize money on off er for the players in the Ryder cup; they compete simply to win and for the prestige involved inbeing selected.

Each team is comprised of 12 players, with variable

factors involved in selecting them for each. for Europe, the fi ve leading players on the European Tour events gain automatic entry, followed by the leading fi ve players (not already qualifi ed) on the Ryder cup world Points list.

finally, the captain of the team will make two picks. Qualifi cation for the United states team is rather more straightforward, with the top eight players on the Ryder cup Points list guaranteed a spot, and the remaining four places chosen by the team captain.

The format of the tournament has, of course, changed plenty over the years and the methods of picking players are just one such example. Up to 1977 there was no true

“European” team; it was merely players from Great Britain and Ireland who competed against America. from ’79 and thereafter, European players joined the ranks and the cup became far more competitive.

from America having won 17 of the last 18 prior to 1979, they have since that date won seven of 16, with Europe claiming the Ryder cup on the other nine occasions.

2010’s celtic Manor triumph for Europe, by 14½ - 13½, was the fi rst single-point victory in the Ryder cup since 1999, when America triumphed in Massachusetts. Indeed it is perhaps worth recognising that only once since the mid 90’s has a team won the cup outside of their own territory - the 2004 Ryder cup won by Europein Michigan.

That shows the size of the task facing the current holders to retain their trophy as they travel to Illinois in late september.

AMERICAThe eight guaranteed spots for the American team courtesy of their Ryder cup points are now known, following the culmination of the Us PGA championship at Kiawah Island.

Tiger woods fi nished top of the pile and will make his 7th appearance at the Ryder cup, while Masters winner Bubba watson took second place. Three debutants for the Ryder cup were next in line with Jason Duff ner, Keegan Bradley and webb simpson making up the top fi ve. Zach Johnson and Matt Kuchar will also feature, while Phil Mickelson will make a record-breaking 9th appearance for the Us.

captain Davis love III later made his four picks to make up the remainder of the team with both Rickie fowler and Hunter Mahan missing out. Jim furyk, Dustin Johnson, Brandt snedeker and steve stricker were the four chosen.

EUROPEAll 12 members of the European team have been fi nalised, with Martin Kaymer securing the fi nal automatic place.

Rory McIlroy unsurprisingly topped the points pile while fellow Brits Justin Rose, Graeme McDowell and Paul lawrie are all also in. francesco Molinari came in at fi fth place on the European Tour events list. following those fi ve, the Ryder cup world Points list yielded English duo luke Donald and lee westwood, spaniard sergio Garcia, Peter Hanson from sweden and fi nally the aforementioned German Kaymer.

captain Jose Maria olazabal then named Englishman Ian Poulter, famed for his match play in the game, and Nicolas colsaerts of Belgium as his wildcards. colsaerts, the only debutant in the European team, is the fi rst Belgian to play in the Ryder cup.
