What a great golf season! Thank you to the entire Fiddler’s Creek Membership for your participation in the various Golf Club events.

The golf staff lead by Head Golf Professional, Michael Saccameno, organized and operated a wonderful golf program geared to maximizing everyone’s enjoyment of the game. Michael has done a phenomenal job in leading the golf staff in providing world-class service in a friendly manner on a daily basis. Additionally, Michael has stocked The Golf Shop with the finest golf apparel on the market. We all appreciate our member’s continuous support of The Golf Shop.

Andrew Filbert and Gary Cahill have taken on the duties of Assistant Professional and in conjunction with Kevin Thompson and Jim Kuehny have done a terrific job in controlling all facets of the inside and outside golf operation.

We look forward to providing our year round residents with a summer full of great golf not only at our Club, but also at our many reciprocal clubs. Please call The Golf Shop at (239) 732-3030 to learn about these reciprocal clubs, as well as to book your tee times.

Finally, on behalf of the entire golf staff, I wish our departing seasonal residents a summer of golfing fun at your northern clubs and look forward to your return to Fiddler’s Creek this fall.

Thank you,

John Calabria Director of Golf Operations & Sales

The month of May is the beginning of reciprocity and also the beginning of our summer closing schedule. In May we start closing on Mondays and will allow the course management team to perform routine cultural practices necessary to keep up with the increased growth of the turf due to the increase in soil temperature and day length.

In the months on June, July and August we will be closing for nine days consecutively for extensive course management practices or “Cultural Practices.” These cultural practices consist of deep tine aerification, heavy topdressing and preventative chemical applications to manage annual insect and nematode infestations along with fertilizer applications. Closing notices will be posted on our website and reminders via e-blast and social media.

Please continue to repair divots and ball marks, be conscious of cart traffic patterns and use the road less traveled. Your “on-course etiquette” is greatly appreciated and will be rewarded by better course conditions. Thank you, Jim Vajen Director of Golf Course & Community Landscaping

Message from the TOP

Congratulations to all of the tournament winners! Congratulations to all of our Club Champions and Men’s and Ladies’ Invitational winners!

On behalf of the entire golf staff we wanted to thank all of our Fiddler’s Creek members for their participation in our member events this past season. It has been extremely rewarding to coordinate all the events for you. We had record participation in almost every event held this year. This is a great sign for the success of our events and the growth of The Golf Club.

Preparation for next seasons’ events is well underway. The calendar will be completed over the summer months and placed on the member website at www.fiddlerscreekgolf.com. Please mark your calendar accordingly. As a reminder, please make sure you turn in your entries early. We do not take entries over the phone so fax them to us or stop by The Golf Shop.

Finally, I would like to give a special thanks to the golf staff and entire staff at Fiddler’s Creek. It is an absolute pleasure to be around so many talented and driven people. The combination of teamwork and passion for excellent service has been the key to making our Club so successful.

I wish a great summer of golf for all of you, and we look forward to seeing you again this fall.

Thank you, Mike Saccameno Head Golf Professional

Q: When did you become a member of The Golf Club at Fiddler’s Creek?A: We joined The Golf Club in 2006.

Q: In which Fiddler’s Creek village do you live? A: We closed on our Varenna condo in 2006.

Q: Why did you choose Fiddler’s Creek? A: Our choice was Fiddler’s Creek because of its natural beauty, handsomely executed community master plan, the planned golf clubhouse with the promise of an additional course, and the lively social events calendar.

Q: Are you a seasonal or annual resident of Naples? If seasonal, where else do you spend the year?A: This past year we took the plunge and made Fiddler’s our year-round home.

Q: Which is your favorite hole on the Creek Course and why? A: Richard likes best hole #12 because the view from the tee is spectacular, the landing area is generous, and yet the green is difficult to get to. I don’t have a favorite hole, but the one I love to hate the most is #17.

Q: What other activities do you enjoy when you’re not golfing?A: Playing golf three or four times a week keeps us pretty busy, but we’re also members of The Tarpon Club and particularly enjoy its setting and socials. Richard enjoys cooking, but defers to me for preparing the old world Italian recipes taught to me by my mother and aunts. I sit on the Varenna Condo Board and am vice-chair for Ladies Golf.

Q: What made you take up the game of golf? A: Both Richard and I took up playing golf at the start of our professional careers as most of our friends and colleagues played. There has always been an interest in the game for both of us, but the mental and personal challenge was most alluring.

Q: Do you participate in any golf events? Which is your favorite?A: I participate in Ladies’ Day and the Ladies’ Invitationals. We enjoy Saturday morning Couples’ Play but this year lots of friends and family visited so we weren’t able to play as much with the couples as we would have liked.

Q: Have you ever played golf overseas? Where and how was the experience? A: Through the years we have been extremely fortunate to play a number of really top-notch courses right here in the States. We played a good bit in Ireland and on courses just outside of London. Monte Carlo was the most glamorous-sounding place I played. The course was disappointing. Monte Carlo was not. Q: What’s your favorite golf course?A: The West Course at Winged Foot is one of Richard’s favorites. I like one of the first courses I ever played (or tried to play). Shinnecock is incredibly beautiful.

Q: Tell us about your family.A: We have four terrific children and seven grandchildren ages 0 through 13!

We made Fiddler’s Creek our Year-Round Home: Meet the O’Rorkes

One-Ball Practice DrillPractice Procedure: Practice with just one ball instead of throwing a few balls down on the green and putting without focus. Use your on-course putting routine and concentrate on every stroke. Following this one-ball practice procedure will intensify you concentration. More important, you’ll carry this intense mind-set to the course and see quick improvement in your putting scores. Use your on-course routine and try to create “game conditions.”

If you try this drill, I know you will enhance your mental focus and have more success on the golf course.

If you have any questions regarding this information or need any help with your game, please call The Golf Shop at (239) 732-3030 and talk to one of our instructors.

Q: A ball at rest on the green is moved by another ball, what is the ruling?

A: If a ball in play and at rest is moved by another ball in motion after a stroke, the moved ball must be replaced to its original position. Neither player would incur a penalty.

PGA Golf Rule 18-5 Ball on Green Moved by Another Ball
