CHECK THE TECH• Low-profile frame design increases range of view and helmet compatibility

• O-Flow arch technology

• Flexible O Matter chassis with rigid strap anchor plates

• Discreet frame notches under strap anchors for compatibility with most prescription eyewear

• Expanded lens volume for increased peripheral vision

• Dual vented lens with F3 anti-fog coating

• Textured inner frame surface for glare reduction

OAKLEY CANOPYThe pioneering bunch at Oakley have just wheeled out their latest innovation: the Oakley Canopy. These goggles pack a huge lens coupled with a low profile frame, bringing you an impossibly wide view of the mountain. It’s Oakley’s greatest ever peripheral vision in a goggle. You also get Oakley’s tough Plutonite lens material for the best in clarity and accuracy. Glare is further reduced because the interior of the lens is textured. Even fog ups are stopped dead in their tracks with Canopy’s F3 anti-fog tech-nology and duel lens construction. Behind a strong and lightweight O-Matter frame you enjoy triple-layer face foam and the 40 mm wide adjustable strap provide a luxurious fit.

BeefyVon Zipper

VON ZIPPER - BEEFYCalifornia’s Von Zipper is a free spirit and the Beefy is a meaty goggle that will turn a vegetarian into a meat-eater, so it is said. The designs speak for themselves – actually they shout at the top of their lungs – but you get a mountain’s worth of tech thrown in to make these a key part of your alpine armoury too.  The frame is thermo polyurethane which stays flexible in the coldest of conditions, there’s a triple density fleece foam, which is moisture wicking. Still, there’s lens venting for max airflow and the headstrap is silicone lined for comfort and grip. It’s time to go mountainside.

• Headstrap with silicone for superior grip

Pinneradidas

ADIDAS PINNER adidas create their goggles in the mountains of Austria. They’re designed, tested and, most importantly, ridden there. Then they do it all over again to perfect the frame. It’s because there’s so much to test in an adidas goggle – the lens utilises Light Stabilising Technology, which adjust to fluctuations in the light caused by moving in and out of shad-owy areas. There’s ClimaCool ventilation system for fog free riding and the Auto Fit means you can adjust your goggle to fit perfectly. That’s just the start.

M1ANON M1When they’re working together the six magnets in Anon’s Magna-Tech lens changing system can hold 20lbs of pressure. They also make changing your lens lightning quick. Anon goggles boast other such tech too. The lens matches the sphere of the eye for perfect clarity and the dual lens design also means perfect climate control between outside and inside. That means no fogging. Anon frames are also embellished in the highest fashion. The M1 is 93mm high and feature a spectrum of detailed design.

ELECTRIC EG2Like a fresh powder dump, the Electric EG2 has everything covered. Or uncovered really, because that’s how you want to see on the slopes. An oversized, spherical lens brings you almost limitless peripheral vision, allowing you to easily spot your landings.

Part of the Peter Line Signature Series, this goggle is like its namesake - highly original. Here Electric has introduced ground-breaking Eye Black Treatment to the inside of the lens. It means reflective glare zipping off surfaces won’t affect your vision. A Super Anti-Fog Coating and Electric’s clever vent foam also prevents moisture from clinging to the lens.

The EG2’s pure polycarbonate lens is a tough customer too. Handy when you suffer a fall or get blasted by unexpected projectiles. Lastly, you get a comfortable fit with Electric’s contoured triple-layer face foam. Get going.

DRAGON D2Dragon claim to have the best anti-fog treatment known to man. And they apply it to all their goggle lenses. By dipping the inner lens into the Super Anti-Fog formula, surface tension is reduced and the droplets of condensation that are fog find it much harder to bond. So there you are. It was even designed by riders. You’ll find this in D2 and a bunch of other technical wonders too. The dual lens creates a thermal barrier between hot you and cold outside – it’s this difference in temperatures that creates fog – and the polyurethane frame is also great at staying flexible in plummeting temperatures.  With D2 you’ll certainly be able to see the trees for the lack of fog.

1653Gucci

GUCCI 1653It may be no surprise that haute designer house Gucci has a snow goggle in its collection. Fashion expanded from mere clothing a long time ago and it was in 2010 that the Gucci 1653 goggle first appeared on the slopes at Mount Sunglasses Shop. And each year it sells out.

It’s not just designer for designer’s sake here either. Double lenses are perfectly parallel in the 1653 and Seal Ring technology stops distortions and fogging. There’s total protection against UV rays and this goggle comes fully equipped with a soft internal lining for maximum comfort. It may be Gucci but what else would you expect from a goggle?

The strap is quite distinctive too. Its flag stripes are based on the young, dynamic style of Gucci eyeweb.

OAKLEY AIRBRAKEInto a world that has a habit of chang-ing its mind comes Oakley Airbrake. And far too few goggles actually deliver on the promise of a quick change lens. One fast-fingered snowboarder even made that change in around one second and it’s all thanks to Oakley’s SwitchLock tech and a nifty little lever by the temple. Flick it up and your lens is already there, waiting to be swapped. Whether it’s you that changes your mind or the weather that changes its mind Oakley Airbrake is the easiest way of adapting on the slopes.

Flow tech venting keeps your vision clear and prevents clogging from snow or ice. The dual lens creates a thermal barrier between you and the cold, while the soft fleece-lined foam gives you comfort all the way down. Bollé’s special lens material P80 Plus/Carbo Glass provides you with another defence against fogging and will also prevent most scratching too.

ChakraVon Zipper - ChakraVon Zipper have added their weight to the Boarding 4 Breast Cancer campaign and created the B4BC Chakra. Try these wom-en’s goggles (if you’re a woman); you help a very worthwhile cause and you get a free pair of ear muffs too. We were already sold

on the minimalistic design well before we found out about the huge peripheral vi-

sion, the anti-fog lens treatment and the all day comfort in the moisture

wicking face foam. Designed for smaller to medium faces the

B4BC Chakra shouts all its goodness from the top of the mountain and

a portion of each sale goes to B4BC. Did we mention those cosy earmuffs?

DRAGON APXDragon Alliance’s revolutionary Advanced Project X was the world’s first rimless goggle. It redefined goggles. It was certainly a novel idea but a novelty doesn’t last long on the slopes, let alone become a sell out. And it was almost impossible to keep APX on our shelves last season. The APX was developed in a Colorado mountainside cabin that could only be accessed by helicopter. It was ridden to death by the pros, tested and tested in every possible terrain. Because having no frame expands your peripheral vision in unbelievable ways. But that’s just one element of this incredible goggle. Now there’s a smaller APX too – the nattily named APXS.

OAKLEY O-FRAMEOakley O-Frame opens your downward vision, but that’s a good thing. It means you can see where you’re going. And ask anyone on the snow – it’s one of the most crucial elements to a goggle. That and comfort, which the O Frame covers with its triple layer of fleece foam. This insulates your face from sweat and cold all day. Fog-ging is always a problem in a goggle but the O-Frame sweeps it away thanks to the dual vented lens and Oakley’s F2 anti-fog treatment. No-one wants to be a two-run failure when they’re on the mountainside.  It’s not written in the small print but O-Frame prevents this too.

• Tuned light transmission of standard per-simmon lens tint

• Comfortable and secure fit of wide, adjustable elastic strap

• Reduced glare via textured interior surface
