KM: Yes, that’s interesting because you’re not positing – as so many people do – intellectual and spiritual/emotional engagement as being opposed. They’re things that can co-exist side by side in your work they obviously do.

CL: Yes. Films and books that have touched me before are like this and hopefully I’m working toward that goal too.

ROSE BYRNE(BG)Currently regarded as one of Australia's most promising young actresses, Rose Byrne first drew attention with her portrayal of Alex in Gregor Jordan's commercial and critical hit TWO HANDS. RIKIYA KUROKAWA (JM) Though making his feature film debut in THE GODDESS OF 1967, Rikiya Kurokawa's face is a familiar one - certainly in his native Japan, where for some time he has held an exclusive contract with Prada.

"The Goddess of 1967" is a car, a Citroën DS. A young and rich Japanese has wanted such a car since he saw it in a film he loves. He finds one with help of the internet and travels to Australia to pick it up. Arriving he finds out that the man who sells it, shot himself and he takes the redhaired and blind girl "BG" for a drive accross Australia. The flashback do not always make things clearer, but do make you learn the stories behind the main characters.

With its system of front traction, its hydropneumatic suspension and its characteristic silhouette, the Citroën DS was intended to turn the heads, maybe little peolpe could have foreseen the influence which it would exert on the imagination of the motorists and the historians.

Drawn by Flaminio Bertoni, it creates a sensation! After presentation on the Autosalon of Paris (1955) 12000 cars were ordered the first day and 80000 before the weekend. Very quickly it became the preferred car of the motorists in the whole world, it represented a provocant futurism, a homogeneous alloy of engineering and aesthetic principles.

“As moody spectacle, The Goddess Of 1967 is a fascinating, superbly crafted work. It occasionally threatens to turn into a conventional mystery-thriller, but deliberately defuses these expectations ... The Goddess Of 1967 is undoubtably one of the most exciting and groundbreaking Australian movies of the year.”

Adrian Martin, The Age.

“ Outstandingly original in both conception and realization…. the direction and acting are excellent, and Byrne’s mesmerizing performance as B.G brilliantly inflected and unpredictable. “

Roderick Conway Morris, International Herald Tribune
