    CAMERA ZOOMS INTO A WINDOW OF A APARTMENT COMPLEX ON THECORNER OF 7TH AND 18TH STREET.

    Arebella throws a glass of wine at Max, who dodges it by acentimeter,which shattering against the wall.

    MAXAre you gonna blame me for ruiningthat glass of wine as well?

    CAMERA PANS AT AREBELLA

    AREBELLAYou know what you were doing whenyou got into this?!!

    She stares angrily as she speaks to him.

    CAMERA STAYS ON MAX AND EVERYTHING FREEZES.

    MAXThis has been going on for months.It may be hard to believe but wewere once the perfect couple. Okaymaybe not perfect but pretty close.It was about 3 years ago. I believeit was the hottest January the townof Dexter had ever witnessed. Itwas the strangest thing!

    SCENE REWINDS SLOWLY FADES TO BLACK. THEN TIME-LAPSED TOBRIGHT MORNING.

    EXT. WEST OAKS COMMUNITY IN MAINE.

    CAMERA LOOKS AT SKY. THEN SLOWLY PANS DOWN TO A NEWSPAPERBOY DELIVERING NEWSPAPER IN A QUIET SUBURBAN NEIGHBORHOOD.THEN CAMERA FOLLOWS A NEWSPAPER TO THE DOOR STEPS OF A BIGWHITE VICTORIAN HOUSE.

    Man opens front door and picks up newspaper.

    CAMERA FOLLOWS MAN.

    He walks right into kitchen. Sits down.

    A WOMAN IS COOKING BREAKFAST.

    CAMERA FOLLOWS WOMAN.

    Woman walks upstairs. She opens first door to the right.

    INT. MAXS ROOM

    MAXS DOOR OPENS. MAXS MOM STEPS IN ROOM.

    MAXS MOMWake up!! Sleepy head! Breakfast isalmost ready! You have a big day

    today!

    Max wakes up, tired sleepy.

    FRAME FREEZES WITH MAX EYES HALF OPEN.

    MAXThis is me. Max Krosswick. I usedto be just a typical ordinary 17year old senior who just couldntwait to graduate from high school.Today I turn 18. Two numbers, who,alone are very insignificant but

    together symbolize the coming ofage.

    FRAME GOES BACK TO MOVING NORMALLY.

    Max stretches, flips the covers off of himself and slowlyclimbs out of bed.

    CAMERA FOLLOWS FEET OF MAX.

    He walks towards the bathroom across the hallway andbeginnings to brush teeth. Max bends over sink to spit.

    SHOT OF MIRROR WITH NOTHING IN REFLECTION IS SEEN INBATHROOM. MAX RISES UP AND STARES DEPRESSINGLY AT HIMSELF INMIRROR.

    MAXI didnt really have much going onin my life. Not much of a sportsfan. Not really athletic...

    He lifts up his skinny pale arms.

    SCREEN FADES OUT

    MAX IS IN 7TH GRADE DURING PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN MIDDLESCHOOL PLAYING KICKBALL WITH OTHER CLASSMATES.

    Max walks up to the home base and nervously stumbles.

    CAMERA CAPTURES THE WHOLE FIELD FROM HOME BASE. THEN ZOOMSINTO THE FAT BOYS FACE.

    FAT BOYHey everyone! Look whos up tokick?!! Everybody move up!

    CAMERA PANS OUT SO THAT WHOLE FIELD IS SEEN. KIDS ARE SEENLAUGHING ON FIELD AND OFF ON THE BENCH.

    OTHER KIDSHahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!

    CAMERA ZOOMS INTO MAXS FACE. SHOWS PERSPIRATION

    Fat boy rolls ball.

    CAMERA STAYS ON BALL AS IT ROLLS. GETTING CLOSER TO MAXSFEET. CAMERA ANGLE CHANGES TO MAX FULL BODY SHOT.

    Max frantically kicks feet as ball reaches him.

    CAMERA ZOOMS OUT SO THAT THE FIELD IS SEEN FROM SIDE WITHBALL, FAT BOY AND MAX IN A HORIZONTAL ON SCREEN.

    Ball stops midway to base. Max falls embarrassingly on hisbutt.

    CAMERA ZOOMS TO SKY VIEW OF MAX AND HIS FACIAL EXPRESSION.WHOLE FIELD IS SEEN LAUGHING. SOME KIDS ARE SEEN LIFE ON THEFLOOR.

    SCREEN TURNS WHITE

    PRESENT TIME: MAX IS BACK IN BATHROOM AND IS 17 YEARS OLD.HES GETTING READY TO GO TO SCHOOL AND GRAB SOME DELICIOUSBREAKFAST DOWNSTAIRS.

    Maxs little brother, Fred throws the football at him as hewalks to room to get changed.

    FREDHey Max! Think Fast!

    Max tries to catch the football but misses it and hits hishead. Fred laughs while walking downstairs. Max scratches ishead.

    MAXYeah. Definitely not athletic.

    He changes clothes and heads downstairs.

    KITCHEN: MOM IS FINISHING UP COOKING BREAKFAST. LAYING OUTTHE FOOD. MAXS MOM AND DAD ARE SITTING DOWN AT THEBREAKFAST TABLE. FRED IS DIGGING THROUGH THE FRIDGE FOR SOMESODA.

    MAXS MOM

    (TO FRED)Fred! No soda for breakfast!

    SHOT OF KITCHEN. FACING MAXS MOM WHILE SHE IS YELLING ATFRED.

    FREDBut Mom!!!

    CAMERA SHOT OF FREDS BACK. FREDS HEAD IN THE FRIDGE.

    MAXS MOM

    I mean it Fred! How many times haveI told you!?!

    SHOT OF MAXS MOMS ANGRY FACE.

    FRED(sigh) Okay....

    Fred Drops head down and slowly sits down to eat.

    MAXS MOM

    (TO MAX)

    Hey honey! Nice to see you made itdown here early for a change! Happybirthday Sweetie!

    MAXS DADHappy birthday son! What do youwanna do with your friends for yourbirthday? oh. wait you have nofriends! Hahahaha! I cant believethrough all those four years, younever brought made a single friend.

    MAXS MOMSweetie! Dont say that! Heprobably has made plenty of friendsbut hes probably been busy withschool to hangout.

    CAMERA FOCUSES ONTO MAXS FACE.

    MAX (IN HEAD)Actually No....

    MAXS MOMOkay guys! I packed luch for bothof you over there. You guys better

    get going soon or youll miss thebus!

    Maxs mom points to the lunch bags. Fred and Max leave tothe bus stop.

    WEST OAKS NEIGHBORHOOD: FRED AND MAX WALK THREE BLOCKS DOWNFROM THEIR HOUSE TO GET TO THE BUS STOP.

    Two more blocks til the bus stop, they see the bus arrivingand start to run. Fred, being athletic, makes it on the bus.Max on the other hand runs and trips on the sidewalk and is

    left behind. He only made it to one block.

    CAMERA ANGLE SWITCHES TO THE FRONT VIEW, WITH MAXS FACEFACING THE AUDIENCE.

    He picks himself up and is splashed by the oncoming schoolbus driving through the puddle of mud resulted from thestorm the night before.

    MAX (IN HEAD)Best start to the best birthdayEVER!

    With his phone died due to the liquid exposure during thesplash, he decides to walk to bus station, which is about anhour walk and catch the city bus to school. As he walkedpast the park, an adult german sheppard decides to attackhim. Max starts running for his life but due to hisunathleticism, he was unable to outrun the dog, who waschasing him for his lunch. He lost his lunch from the dogand his shirt looks like fish netting now.

    On the way there, he decides to buy some snacks for lunchbecause his moms packed lunch was all wet. He ges into thepastery store across the street, Rudys Bakery.

    RUDYS BAKERY: LITTLE MA AND PA PASTERY STORE.

    Max opens door. walks up to the pastry counter.

    CAMERA SCOPES AROUND BAKERY. THEN FOCUSES ON MAX FROM THEREAR WITH THE OLD BAKER FACING THE AUDIENCE.

    MAXCan I get one of those strawberrydanishes, a piece of the bluberrymuffin and a bottle of waterplease?

    CAMERA ZOOMS INTO THE ROW OF STRAWBERRY DANISHES. THEN UP TOTHE OLD BAKER.

    OLD BAKERSure kid. What happen to you boy?Pirhanas get you? Arent Yousuppose to be in school right now?

    MAXLong story. Id rather not talkabout it. Yeah but I didnt catchmy bus on time so now Im trying toget to the city bus station and get

    to school that way. Do you know howmuch it will cost me?

    OLD BAKERWell it has been a while since haveused the city bus to travelanywhere but I believe itll costwill about $1.

    CAMERA ZOOMS TO BAKERS FACE. HES LOOKING UP AS IF HESPONDERING.

    MAX

    Thats not too bad. Do you know howmuch farther it is from here? Iseen to have forgotten the way toit.

    OLD BAKERWhy yes I do! Its about anotherhalf hour from here, walking, thatis. Make the first right on eastrd. Then go about 5 blocks down andmake a left on Rouse Ave and itshould be on you right side as youturn into the street. Your totalcomes out to $4.34.

    CAMERA PANS OUT TO THE STREETS AND SHOWS GLIMPSE OF EACHIMPORTANT INTERSECTION MAX MUST CROSS. THEN FADES BACK INTOTHE BAKERY STORE WITH CAMERA.

    MAXOh okay, thanks! Here you go!

    CAMERA ZOOMS ONTO THE CLOCK IN A BAKERY STORE. THE TIME IS9:00. THE HOUR HANDS AND MINUTE HANDS MOVE FORWARD FASTERAND FASTER UNTIL IT REACHES 9:30. THE CAMERA ZOOMS OUT TOSHOW THAT HE IS NOW UNDERNEATH THE CLOCK NEAR THE BUS

    STATION.

    BUS STATION: OLD ANTIQUE LOOKING BUILDING WITH STRUCTURESTHAT ALLOW BUSES TO LOAD AND DROP OFF THEIR CUSTOMERS. THEREIS A BIG TOWER NEAR THE BUS STATION WHICH HAS A CLOCK, OFWHICH IT RINGS EVERY HOUR.

    MAX (IN HEAD)First I missed the bus. Then I gotchase by a dog. Then I lost mylunch and I barely have a wearableshirt right now. What more worse

    could happen? Is today really myBirthday!!

    CAMERA PANS FROM FULL BODY SHOT TO SKY SHOT. DROPLETS OFWATER BEGINNING TO FALL.

    Max stares up to the sky as he thinks. Little droplets ofwater begining to graze his face softly.

    MAXYou have got to be kidding me!!!

    Angrily, Max rushes to the bus and pays his one dollar feeto the bus driver. He seats on the fourth seat down thecolumn. As he sit there staring out onto the people on thestreets, his eyes start to feel heavy. As the bus rode on hefeel into a deep sleep trance and ended up missing his stop.He wakes up to see that he has ended up on the other side ontown. Downtown. He was a new place to him. So manyintersting looking people. So much lights. So much color. Somuch everything. It was alot to take in at the moment.

    BUS DRIVERLast stop kid. Get off the bus!

    MAXReally? Is this the last stop? Canyou please drive me back?

    BUS DRIVERNot my problem buddy. You got topay another fee to drive back. Imon break so youre gonna have towait for awhile.

    BUS DRIVERGet out kid! Im starving! I havebeen driving non stop since

    yesterday morning! They dont pay meenough to do this! Yeesh! Thepeople on these busses arelunactics!

    MAXBut Im just a kid. I dunno knowwhere I am please help me.

    BUS DRIVERLook kid theres a phone over there.Use the Change you have left andcall your parents to tell them to

    pick you up. Or you could just waitfor another bus or me...

    MAXOkay. Fine.

    MAX (IN HEAD)I decided that I might as well stayand check out the scene in downtownMaine. Calling my parents wouldhave been the idiotic thing to do

    in this situation. They wouldprobably freak out and not trust meever to take care of my brother letalone myself.

    This was the moment that was gonnachange my life forever. It was oneof the worst days of my life. But Ihad no idea what I was about toencounter when I came into the ansimple coffee shop.

    Max walks into coffee shop. Everyone in the coffee storestares at him because of his torn and shredded outfit.

    MAXHi! What do you guys sell here?What is coffee?

    MAXI live in Dexter.

    MAXAbout 2 hours away. What? Me? Cute?really? Long Story. Can I try someCOFFEE?

    CASHIER GIRLOf Course you can! Would you like aregular or large? Maybe you cantell me your story when I get offmy shift.

    MAXRegular please. I dont know I haveto head back home. I dont ahve aride. i got here by bus byaccident. I kinda of missed mystop.

    CASHIER GIRLHahahahaha! Really? I can take youhome! But you gotta tell where yougot this getup first!

    MAXGetup? Oh! This? (points toshredded shirt)
