Step Six “Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.” Step Six necessary to spiritual growth. The beginning of a lifetime job. Recognition of a lifetime job. Recognition of difference between striving for objective—and perfection. Why keep trying. “Being ready” is all-important. Necessity of taking action. Delay is dangerous. Rebellion may be fatal. Point at which we abandon limited objectives and move toward God’s will for us.

6th Promise The feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear. Tradition Six An AA group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the AA name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, and prestige divert us from our primary purpose. 1. Should my fellow group members and I go out and raise money to endow several AA beds in our

local hospital?

2. Is it good for a group to lease a small building?

3. Are all the officers and members of our local club for AAs familiar with “Guidelines on Clubs” (which is available free from GSO)?

4. Should the secretary of our group serve on the mayor’s advisory committee on alcoholism?

5. Sone alcoholics will stay around AA only if we have a TV and card room. If this is what is required to carry the message to them, should we have these facilities?

Concept Six The Conference recognizes that the chief initiative and active responsibility in most world service matters should be exercised by the trustee members of the Conference acting as the General Service Board. Are we familiar with how our General Service Board (G.S.B.) Class A and Class B trustees serve

A.A.?

Are we clear about the terms, “chief initiative” and “active responsibility”? Can we see a direct link to our home group?

What is CENTRAL OFFICE?

A central office is an AA service office that involves partnership among groups in a community—just as AA groups themselves are partnerships of individuals. A central office is established to carry out certain functions common to all the groups—functions which are best handled by a centralized office—and it is usually maintained, supervised, and supported by these groups in their general interest. It exists to aid the groups in their common purpose of carrying the AA message to the alcoholic who still suffers.

GRATITUDE CLUB Congratulations on your sobriety!

Contributions such as yours support Central Office’s service to members and groups throughout Fresno County, and help insure that the A.A. message is carried throughout the greater Fresno area, and often beyond. Members of the Gratitude Club customarily contribute $1, $2, or even $5 a year for each year of sobriety—others may give a penny or nickel a day for each day of their sobriety. Please note that individu-al gifts may not exceed $3,000 per year. Thank you for your participation in A.A.’s Seventh Tradition of self-support!

FAITHFUL FIVERS JOHN & THALIA LE. ELSBETH F. PATRICIA D. ANONYMOUS KRISTA R. CARROL B DOUG & PAT P. BILL D JACK B. NANCY K. GARY JOHN E. KEITH S. These are the current Faithful Fivers as of 01/2017. If you name is missing or misspelled please notify us.

What are Faithful Fivers? They are the members who pledge at least $5.00 each month toward the support of their local Central Of-fice. This idea is catching on around the country. In Just For Today, A publication of the Tucson Area In-tergroup, a story noted that “the plan is used in several other cities and came about when we remembered that many of us spent more than $5.00 every week on alcohol in our drinking days.” PAYMENT PLAN : Simply mail a check for $5.00 made out to Central Office at :

Greater Fresno Area Intergroup Association 1755 N. Gateway 102, 93727

If your interested in becoming a volunteer at Central Office come in or give the office a call at 559-221-6907.

An exert from Northern California Hospital & Institution Committee

Annual Pink Can Collection Report—FYE 2018 The Hospital & Institution Committee of Northern California is a Ninth Tradition service committee of Alcoholics Anonymous with the purpose of carrying the message of A.A. to those who are confined in prisons, hospitals, treatment facilities, and other institutions. Nor Cal H&I has been carrying the A.A. message of recovery to confined alcoholics for over 75 years, dating to its origins in 1942 at San Quentin State Prison, and is one of the oldest independent service committees of Alcoholics Anonymous. In the fiscal year ending Nov. ‘18 NorCal H&I spent $470,000 for books and literature from AA World Services. (That includes) AA Grapevine, meeting Directories, Big Books, Twelve and Twelve, and varies literature...Additionally, we pay for neither an office nor for salaries for service committee workers, thus enabling us to dedicate such a large portion of our contributions to literature for the confined alcoholic. Northern California H&I supports approximately 33,000 meetings each year, serving approximately 25 major state and federal institutions plus hundreds of local jails, hospitals, rehabs and other community facilities. Those who are confined have no money to buy the AA literature brought in by the H&I volunteers, so the Pink Can, with your donations, covers this cost… The Northern California Hospital & Institution Committee has for years been one of the largest purchasers of literature from AAWS contributing significantly to the support of our General Service Office in New York… The H&I Committee is adamant that the contributions so generously made to our Pink Vans in no way detract from the Seventh Tradition collections of the groups. We therefor ask that the Pink Cans be passed separately from and after the baskets to avoid subtracting from support of the 7th Tradition, and we encourage all members to remove the cans from the baskets if they are being passed together...Online payment option from our website as https://www.handinorcal.org/contribute. ...Without this loving support tens of thousands of confined alcoholics simply would not have access to the lifesaving message of A.A. For additional information, please visit our website at www.handinorcal.org or write to the Northern California Hospital & Institution Committee, P.O. Box 192490, San Francisco, CA 94119-2490.

Group Safety and Unity In any situation, if a person’s safety is in jeopardy, or the situation breaches the law, the individuals involved can take appropriate action to ensure their safety. Calling the proper authorities does not go against any A.A. Traditions. Anonymity is not a cloak protecting criminal or inappropriate behavior. Inappropriate or predatory behavior, such as unwanted sexual attention or targeting vulnerable members can be especially troublesome. These behaviors may go on outside of typical meeting times. While A.A. members can be caring and supportive to those affected, we are not professionals trained to handle such situations. Law enforcement or other professional help may be necessary. Victims of inappropriate behavior, harassment or predators can let the group know about such situations, often through a sponsor or trusted friend. This way the group is informed, and members can help address the situation and curtail further problems. Group discussion should me focused on creating an environment where all alcoholics can find and maintain sobriety. Dealing with Disruptions Some groups have developed plans for addressing disruptive behavior and have established procedures through their group conscience to ensure that the group’s welfare is protected. In many cases, disruptive behavior is pre-empted by having the chairperson state the expectations for behavior in the meeting. Some groups include in their opening announcements that illegal and disruptive behavior is not tolerated. Still other groups have asked disruptive members to leave the meeting. Additionally, groups and members always have the option to call the appropriate authorities if disruptive behavior continues or anyone’s safety is at risk.

A Note on Love and Tolerance Let us also remember to guard that erring member the tongue, and if we must use it, let's use it with kindness and consideration and tolerance. And one more thing: None of us would be here today if some-body hadn't taken time to explain things to us, to give us a little pat on the back, to take us to a meeting or two, to do numerous little kind and thoughtful acts in our behalf. So let us never get such a degree of smug complacency that we're not willing to ex-tend, or attempt to extend, to our less fortunate brothers that help which has been so beneficial to us. Thank you very much, Dr. Bob

From Dr. Bob's brief remarks on Sunday, July 30, 1950, at the First Inter-national A.A. Convention in Cleveland, Ohio.
