The United Methodist Church celebrates Heritage Sunday on the Sunday before Aldersgate Day, May 24, when John Wesley had his spiritual rebirth. This year, United Methodists mark the 200th anniversaries of the death of Francis Asbury and the birth of sister denomination, the African Methodist Episcopal Church.

The OTHER SENIORS!! Aldersgate will celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates on June 5th. High school, trade school, community college, uni-versity and graduate school grads (or their families) should make sure that their name and graduation details are turned in to the church office by May 31 to be included on the graduates list.

Volunteer!! We are always accepting volunteers to play with the kids in our nursery at 9:30 and 11:00 on Sundays. Jill Harkless is here each week giving great care, but to help us follow Safe Sanctuary guidelines, we need another adult present as well to play with the children. Please talk to Trish if you are interested.

Youth Events YOUTH GROUP will regroup and continue all summer — Sundays at 6 Down Under. That Thing – June 19-24th at Epworth Forest. Open to all high school students. Operation Christmas Child After much thought and prayerful consideration the Operation Christmas Child coordinators and the Outreach Committee have decided not to partici-pate in OCC this coming win-ter. Missionaries in the field are express-ing concern with the types of gifts includ-ed in the project (problems with being in-appropriate for the culture and/or climate) and the methods of distribution. There will still be ways to give at Aldersgate dur-ing Christmas -- the Prison Fellowship's Angel Tree and the Christmas Bureau are excellent programs for outreach and will continue to be part of our celebrations. Watch for details later in the year.

Don’t forget to send your college student’s 2016/2017 address to Ellen Rhoades (our parish visitor). She

will be updating her lists in late August.

WAIT!? Didn’t we say that this issue of the

Gatepost would not be printed?

Well, it seems that we can’t find a good way to send the newsletter

electronically. If you have experience in sending out email newsletters

please have a conversation with Keith Nettleton, our church manager.

In the meanwhile we are still gathering

email addressed for that bright day when we can get all of our ducks in a

row! Be sure to send your email address or addresses to:

Worship at Aldersgate -

When was the last time you invited someone to join in worship with you? Here are some words you can use to describe worship at Aldersgate: The Heartbeat Worship at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays The Church of the Warm Heart offers the worship with which you have become familiar. In our bright and open sanctuary, we offer worship with roots in tradition and open to innovation, weekly communion, space for children, vocal choirs and bell ensembles. This is timeless, classic worship, full of words and music, ritual and liturgy as it has been practiced in our country for decades. The Genesis Worship at 11:00 a,m, on Sundays Genesis is worship that is different than what you may have experienced anywhere else. Designed for participation, engagement, where questions are encouraged and conversation is necessary, because we are travelers on the same journey.
