THE GARDEN POST 794 Sedge Garden Road Kernersville, NC 27284 April 19, 2018 THANKFULNESS is hardly the word that needs to be used to describe how I often feel as I see many of you in action through the life of The Garden. It is absolutely incredible and heart warming to say the least, to see how your life and faith lift up the lives of one another on a daily basis. I see this Soul Tending in a variety of ways: Sunday School Classes that commit themselves to fervent prayer for those who are in the hospital or shut in at home; Hope Committee groups who go out of their way to prepare meals for the bereaved; young families who help each other with childcare needs; Weekday School teachers who seem to always have a small and a warm embrace to the children they care for during the week; home visitation that is done by those in various small groups; children, youth, and adults who venture out of the community to do mission work; Stephen Ministers whose selfless commitment to care for others in need; others who quietly sit at home and send care-cards to folks who need a gentle reminder that they are cared for; and the list goes on and on and on. “Soul Tending” is simply the desire to meet one another at a much deeper level than our nice “hello’s”. “Soul Tending” is the desire for us to connect at those places in our lives where we are reminded that we share this faith-life journey with others. It is a wonderful way for us to be faithful to the Covenants we make to each other when we join the family of the church. When we tend to the stuff of the soul, we discover and claim for ourselves the presence of Christ in all that we do….in all of our activity…in all of our business….in all of our relationships. John Wesley, the founder of our Methodist Church called these gifts to the soul, “means of grace”. Along with Holy Communion, Bible study, giving to the poor, and worship, it is our relationship with one another and our creator that gives meaning and purpose to the heart of our souls. Thank you for your practice of “Soul Tending” each and every week. I assure you, that as we practice it together, the lives of those inside and outside the church will be blessed. Give an extra smile or make an extra compliment or say an extra prayer for someone else. I suspect that your own soul will give you a BIG THANK YOU for tending to it as well. See ya Sunday, George

THE GARDEN POST 794 Sedge Garden Road

Kernersville, NC 27284

April 19, 2018

THANKFULNESS is hardly the word that needs to be used to describe how I often feel as I see many of you in action through the life of The Garden. It is absolutely incredible and heart warming to say the least, to see how your life and faith lift up the lives of one another on a daily basis. I see this Soul Tending in a variety of ways: Sunday School Classes that commit themselves to fervent prayer for those who are in the hospital or shut in at home; Hope

Committee groups who go out of their way to prepare meals for the bereaved; young families who help each other with childcare needs; Weekday School

teachers who seem to always have a small and a warm embrace to the children they care for during the week;

home visitation that is done by those in various small groups; children, youth, and adults who venture out of

the community to do mission work; Stephen Ministers whose selfless commitment to care for others in need;

others who quietly sit at home and send care-cards to folks who need a gentle reminder that they are cared for;

and the list goes on and on and on. Supporting Second Harvest Food Bank’s Summer Meal Program

School will end in a few months and 107,490 children will lose their free school meals. Most of us never go hungry but that is not the case for many in the areas where we live. With a donation that will be matched dollar for dollar you can help make it possible that no child goes hungry. The United Methodist Women's Millennium Circle has made a donation and this Circle encourages everyone also to donate. A small donation from everyone in our congregation will add up to the total of large donations. The address to mail your donation is 3655 Reed Street, Winston-Salem 27107 or you can call them at 336-784-5770 to use a credit card. What a great feeling to know that YOU are a leader in the fight against Summer hunger! Please contact a member of the UMW—Millennium Circle for more information!

Patience is more than sitting around watching

paint dry. This month we have been learning that

patience is waiting until later for something that you

want now, and waiting with a good spirit! (Imagine

me in a tantrum—not patience!) So we are focusing

on a few key points to help us grow our patience,

because patience does not come naturally to us all.

When I think I can’t wait, I need to pray and talk to

God about it...He can give me the patience that I need.

I also need to keep my cool and treat others the way I want

to be treated...do I like it when others get impatient with

me? I need to think twice before I get impatient and

remember what is true—God wants the best for me so I can

trust Him while I wait for His blessing! So, let’s practice

patience with our Garden Kids this month!
