THE BEACH IN BANJULThe Gambia is a poor country; despite having beautiful beaches, there is a lot of poverty in the surrounding area.

AJI SUKAI SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL The next few slides are pictures from my

school: an all girls agricultural high school There are about 150 total students with class

sizes averaging 20 to 25 The school relies on revenue from its

chickens, gardens and plant nursery for funding

There are currently no computers for student use, but I’m working on setting up a computer lab of old donated computers

THE GAMBIAN CULTURE

I enjoy playing with local kids, going to the market, learning Wolof and practicing my drum

Transportation, internet and electricity are all unreliable here

The people are very friendly and welcoming A loaf of bread costs 6 Dalasi (about 25 cents) Goats and stray dogs wander the streets It does not rain at all during the dry season

GAMBIAN WEDDINGWeddings are held in the street so everyone is welcome; we shared a communal bowl and ate with our fingers.
