The Friday Notes Celebrating 227 Years! 2017 Principal's Corner This week our 2,d graders attended a performance of Flat Stanley at the Engeman Theater in Northport which is based on the children's book by Jeff Brown. Our youngest students also welcomed family members for their annual Community Helpers Celebration. Today's presentation was a culmination of their research on various members of the community. Thank you to all who came to support our learners. In celebration of World Language month, the fourth grade FLES students created beautiful posters! Each year, the AATSP (American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese) selects a theme which the students have to depict in their posters. This year's theme was "Creating Links between the Classroom and Careers." Congratulations to the following West Siders: Honorable Mention, James Wollman; 4th place: Jaida Luparello; 3rd place, Kamila Cotek; 2nd place: Ava Hurtes; Regional Representative for West Side and 1 st place: Andrew Shammah. Congratulations to all on a job well done! Finally, Student Council raised $2,082.75 for the Helping Hands Rescue Mission earlier this month during their Bottle Flipping Contest. Thank you to all who participated for this worthy cause. Have a wonderful break! SIT Self-Nomination Forms The District is in the process of putting together our School Improvement Team (SIT) for the 2017-2018 school year. The purpose of SIT is to improve the educational performance of all students in the schools through the collaborative participation of team members in the decision-making process. Each school's team consists of teachers, administrators and parents. One of our parent representatives from each school must be a parent of a special education student. Each team is required to meet at least once a month from September to June, and to the extent possible, the meetings will be scheduled at the end of the regular school day. One parent per household, per school enrolled is eligible for nomination. If you are currently sitting as a member of SIT, it is necessary to resubmit you name. The term of office is for one year, not to exceed a 3-year term. Please see the attached flyer if you are interested. Sports/Game Night Sports/Game Night- We would like to thank all the Dads, grandfathers and those moms who attended Sports/Game Night. Everyone had a fun time playing games, enjoying Newcomb in the gym, and having dinner together! We would also like to thank Mr. Simon & President of our PTG, Ana Shammah, for their help in making this event go smoothly. Thank you Mr. Walsh for keeping our families engaged in a fun, new exciting game in the gym! The Friday Notes Celebrating 227 Years!

This year we are celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the West Side Run on Sunday, May 21 , 2017. OUf goal for the Run this year is to raise $25,000. The money raised will go to a special outdoor play space that the PTG is in the process of planning.

We are counting on our generous West Side Family and Business Sponsors to donate towards our aggressive goal this year!

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM (SIT) SELF NOMINATION FORM SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT TEAM NOMINATION FORM

We are in the process of putting together our School Improvement Team (SIT) for the 2017-2018 school year. The purpose of SIT is to improve the educational performance of all students in the schools through the collaborative participation of team members in the decision-making process.

Each school's team consists of teachers, administrators and parents. One of our parent representatives from each school must be a parent of a special

education student. Each team is required to meet at least once a month from September to June, and to the

extent possible, the meetings will be scheduled at the end of the regular school day. One parent per household, per school enrolled is eligible for nomination. If you are currently sitting as a member of SIT, it is necessary to resubmit you name. The term of office is for one year, not to exceed a 3-year term.
