We were able to fulfill our new

years goal of getting ourpuppet show off the ground,

as an avenue to win souls.

Martin (13) and Celeste

(11) took up the

challenge, and saw

this puppet showall the way

through. They

worked very hard on

every aspect of it: They

wrote their own script

and did a live performanceof one of the stories in the

show. They also helped a lot in

the making of the puppets. They

have worked beautifully alongside

Philip, their teacher, as well as SGA

Kerenina. Martin took the role ofdirector of the show.

After a massively fruitful ministryof clowning in Toronto, Canada, dear Michael and Claire and Co.decided to return to that “Down Un-der” place (now commonly known asAustralia), bringing with them thatmuch-unused form of fundraising (inAustralia anyway) — CLOWNING!!!

Several months later, the adultswere feeling burnt out after going thenth degree in order to provide usteens with the fellowship that is sonecessary for some. And then — life-saver! We received a message con-firming the upcoming teen meet-ings!

The cost was relatively high, sothe adults (Michael and Claire) andteens (James, Andrew, Kristina. andSharyn.) and Peter JETT met togetherto discuss the situation. Having strucka financial crisis, the surrounding cir-cumstances looked grim. Then we hitupon a simple yet profound conclu-sion: The Lord wanted us to raise themoney instead of borrowing from theHER, the buffer or the likes. After seek-ing the Lord, we decided that clown-ing (while at the same time distribut-ing tracts and posters) would beour sole method

of raising our fare to the teen

meeting. We discovered that there

was an upcoming festival celebrat-

ing the Chinese New Year which

lasted several days — TTL for His

brilliant timing! We went clowning

there for a few days, which turned

out to be massively fruitful, the Chi-

nese people being as sweet as they

are. Mission accomplished, opera-

tion successful. PHN!

Next target: an unsuspecting

open market where many families

and buskers go. — A likely place for

some receptive soul to come along

and buy a balloon. We ended up

going there every weekend, which

again was extremely productive.

Alas, the Lord’s work is not

without its troubles (nor rewards, for

that matter) as we soon found out,

when, after handing posters and

tracts to every person we met, we

were approached by a security

guard who informed us that it was

“illegal to pass out leaflets of any

kind in the market.” We were some-

what discouraged, but hey

people! — Who says you can’t wit-

ness without posters, tracts and

such? As it happens, this mar-

ket is a particularly good place

for meeting people and per-

sonal witnessing. TTL!

THE MOOMBA FESTIVAL: One of

the largest festivals in Victoria,

lasting ten days, during which

approximately 500,000 people

come to see the sights and

hear the sounds. There was,

however, some doubt as to the

possibility of our getting into the

Moomba, as in order to do this

we had to pay a high price to

obtain passes — which, we

must say, we were not pre-

pared to do.

We got together one night in

desperation mode to seek the

Lord and His will in the matter.

The Lord spoke — not through

one awesome prophecy, but

several awesome prophecies,

in which He not only granted

our wish to be there, but told us

that He wanted us to be there.

Of course, technically we

shouldn’t have been able to

get in, but we would have had

to be majorly FLATFlatlanders to see it thatway.

The day the festivalopened we marched in,“claiming the land” —despite the fact that wewere minus passes andauthorized permission.

There was one very impor-tant thing that we were definitely notminus, which was the Lord, and ofcourse that made up for all the miss-ing things. Clowning for 26 hours aday, every day, can be a draining ex-perience. In the middle of a festival, one would be quite vulnerable to at-tacks of the Enemy. Therefore, the Lordtold us through prophecy that inorder to pos-

sess His Spirit and anoint-ing, it was vital that we staydrowned in the Word andhear from Him daily, whichwe did thanks to the contin-ued faithfulness and push-ing of the adults here. Attimes it seemed a trial tohave to delay our depar-ture to have Word or aprayer meeting, but we re-alized that it was extremelyimportant.

On one occasion, wewere stopped by a securityguard who evidentlythought we shouldn’t bethere and told us so afterdemanding to see ourpasses. We walked to theother side of the groundsand continued our workpeacefully. The funny thingwas, there were securityguards and police/policevehicles and the likeposted everywhere but wewere not bothered by themagain. Another miracle wasthe fact that we madefriends with one of the au-thorities there who realizedthat we shouldn’t havebeen there, but turned ablind eyeto it andwas quitef r i e n d l y ,e v e n“shouting”(slang for“buying”)us drinksetc.

We re-ceived ourshare ofpe r secu -tion, butnot fromthe ex-p e c t e dsource! Wehad natu-r a l l yt h o u g h tthat whenthe Lord said that there wasgoing to be persecution, itwould be coming from theauthorities — little did weknow! Our offenders hap-pened to be a number ofthe many inebriates whohang out at the Moomba. As many of you may wellknow, Australians love theirbeer, and as it happens, the Moomba is a favoritetime and place to getdrunk. Naturally, we allmeet our share of rudepeople, but some morethan others. It seems thatmany people delighted inbothering us. But, hey!

What are clowns for? Seri-

ously, the Moomba is quite

a dangerous area, and it

is quite a likely place for

would-be thieves. Once we

had a pump stolen and on

several occasions we had

wigs pulled off our heads

(only two wigs actually got

stolen). TTL for protecting us

from anything more dras-

tic!We met a lot of people

and made a lot of friends,

which was quite a witness —

on the last day of the festival

people we had met offered

free games, rides, etc.,

which was like an extra

blessing from the Lord for our

efforts to please Him. As a

matter of fact, we were defi-

nitely blessed 100 times

over as far as having fun

goes. It was quite a special

time for all of us, a learning

and growing experience in

all aspects, along with be-

ing heaps of fun. We also

learned major lessons in

the area of “in unity is

strength.” Actually, speak-

ing for all of us, we can say

that it was an experiencethat we

wouldn’t

have missed. It was COOL!

lia: GROUSE!!

nal and keep the faith! —

Ateam wentout everyday, get-ting bookings and sponsor-ships. This meant that mostdays there was only oneregular outreach team outand some days none, butthe Lord continued to sup-ply nonetheless. And if byany chance the Lord toldyou to do something sort oflike this but you were wor-ried that it would take awayfrom your outreach andtherefore your financeswould go down and youwould go broke, in debtand eventually bankrupt, hold on! The Lord says, “If Ifail to care for Mine Own Iam worse than an infidel!”And has He ever failed inany of His promises? No, andneither did He when thingslooked almost impossible forus. One company said, “Yes,we would like two full sets ofvideos!” So the next day wepromptly dropped off 30 vid-eos and picked up a heftydonation. TYJ!One good example ofhow man proposes but Goddisposes is what happenedwhen looking for sponsors. We went out with hopes offinding a big companywhose advertising was al-ready geared to the youth, approach them with thepossibility of sponsoring ourprograms, and in returnwe’d do some advertisingfor them, like hangup a

banner or two and mention theirname in our show as our sponsors. And so we found Pepsi! It soundedgood, we met them a couple oftimes, and although initially therewas no commitment, it did lookpromising. We could just pray itthrough and concentrate on otherstuff. But lo and behold, at the lastminute they backed out. “Oh well, okay. They were asking us to con-form to their requirements a bit toomuch anyway. But, oh my God,what are we going to do now?”

Well, He never fails, and withPepsi out of the way He led us to alot of smaller companies whoneeded His blessings more. “Whatdid Jesus do without a Pepsi-cola?”

Sound was quite a big deal,as none of us were experts, so wewere quite desperate. One day wecame across two guys who workedin a small shop assembling foreignparts for technical equipment, likehuge speakers. Just what we werelooking for! Not only did they give usa decent price, but they also cameto every show to help us work thecontraptions. We couldn’t havedone it without them, and with theirhelp, the message projected loudand clear to over 10,000 people innine different colleges, many ofwhom got saved. PTL!

Well, we won’t get into detailson the “training” side of things, butsuffice it to say that we definitelylearned a lot and we’re all verythankful for the time we had workingtogether. There was a lot of fun in-volved, but the greatest job of allwas being able to witness to allthose souls who otherwise might nothave had a chance to get reached.

Oh yes! If you were wonderinghow the Lord eventually worked outthe transportation for our rather largeteam of dancers, singers, stagehands and others, it was quite neat!See, we knew we didn’t haveenough money for 12 auto-rick-shaws or whatever to go paradingall the way through Bangalore towhichever college we needed to goto. So one day (this was all in the last

week, mind you), by a miracle wemet the man in charge of tourism forthe state. We presented him with ourneed, and told him that he’d betternot get any big-money ideas be-

cause we didn’t have any. He couldn’thelp us, but he told us to bring somerequest letters to his office the next dayand he’d see what he could do —and what he could do, he did!

He presented our letters to some privatetourist companies and asked them to help uswith a bus each week. Since he was a govern-ment official, they kindly obliged. So we’d picka bus up in the morning, tell the driver where totake us, and be driven home at night. Thesebusses were spacious enough so that we weren’tsquished, even with all our equipment! — Andwe were even able to take extra onlookers toour programs — Family members who alsohelped out with setting up and witnessing. GBT!

Well, that about sums up the big stuff. No,we didn’t run around naked, the Lord suppliedsome good costumes, material and tailors(some free of charge), shoes, boots and what-not. Yep, folks, we didn’t even run out of food(though it took a few meals to finally figure outexactly how much more to cook)! And we wereeven able to get a pro to capture some of ourprecious moments at two of the colleges on vid-eocassette. So stay tuned, it may be comingyour way soon!

think too much of marriage, plus my parents weren’t too hot onthe idea either. However, my parents got turned on to themarriage idea real quick when the “Make It Work” letters startedcoming out. — And as Mark puts it, we had a “shotgun wedding,”ha! Well, maybe it was that, but we sure are happy for it now andthankful that the Lord let it work out this way. I know that Markwas the right guy for me, and I love him to pieces. We’ve

shared nine years of our livestogether now, and it’s been justgreat!(Mark:) That’s right!

? Have you ever had

difficult times in yourmarriage, and if so, what

kept you together?(Mikol:)

Yes, we’vehad plenty ofdifficulttimes in our marriage, just like I’m sureothers do. We have our ups and downs, and at some points the downs were sobad we weren’t sure if we’d come upagain! But TTL, prayer, seeking the Lordtogether and getting help and counselfrom our shepherds and parents helpedkeep us going. There’s an old saying, “Absence

makes the heart grow fonder,” and believe it or not, that hasbeen one thing that has helped us a great deal and we’veproven it true. The times that we’ve had apart from eachother — either because one of us had to travel, or justbecause we chose to be apart for a while — have helpedtremendously. It helps you learn to appreciate each other somuch more and show you how much you really love andneed that person. One last little detail that helps keep ustogether is that after nine years, we’re still in love!

(Mark:) Yes, we have had hard times, but love has keptus together. “Love has an extra spiritual eye that sees thegood and possibilities that others cannot see.”

? After having been together now for so manyyears, what do you think of married life versus the

single life?(Mikol:) I don’t think I could live without Mark (unless,

of course, the Lord asked it of me). I love married life! It’s justneat to have someone that youcan share your life with and get toknow in such a special and

intimate way. Like Dad used to say,

Mark and Mikol

? How did you get together?

(Mikol:) Mark and I met when I was 10 years old, andhe was 14. I was just a kid, but I liked Mark and would oftenhang around him and Francis (who is now at Mama’s Home) asthey were roommates at the time. Mark left our Home and went tothe EE for a while and thenwe met again at theMexico TTC (I was 13then, and he was 17).From there, Mark cameback to our Home in Peru, which was known as thePTC (Peru Teen Combo). Itwas one of the first teenHomes to open after theTTC. After living in thesame Home for a fewmonths, we fell in love.

If you ask Mark,he’ll tell you I fell in lovewith him first, but I’ll tellyou he did first. Ha!

Anyway, about ayear after that I guess youcan imagine whathappened. Yes, I gotpregnant! I was so young though that to be quite honest I didn’t

? How has it been for you having so many childrenso young? The difficulties, the blessings, etc. If you had

it to do over again, would you do anything different?(Mikol:) At first it was hard to get used to, and I often

wanted to just be like all the other teens and enjoy all the thingsthey did — which of course just wasn’t possible when havingbabies and raising kids. I’d say there were many “sacrifices” —or so they seemed — which we made, that seemed to be so hardand difficult at the time, but that now I’m happy I made. It’s soneat to be a 23-year-old mom of an 8-½ year old girl. Just think— by the time I’m 30, she’ll be 15! If I could do it all over, I woulddo it just the same!

(Mark:) I’m happy to say we have five growing children,

and if we could go back in time to before my oldest daughter wasborn, I would do it all over again and have all five again!

? What is it like being VSs? What does your job

consist of?(Mikol:) Being called a “VS” doesn’t make me feel any

different than I used to, except for when I walk into Homes and I

have all these people staring at me. Ha! I can be quite a shy andquiet person if I don’t know people, and sometimes it’s hard forme to face a bunch of people. I forget people’s names or ask thesame questions over and over, and it can be pretty humbling. ButI guess “humility” is the name of the game nowadays!

We don’t always travel and visit Homes, as we bothhave other ministries. Mark works full time in the PAS studio, andI am the business TWer in my Home. I also help care for theHome and the kids as well. However, when we do visit or travel, usually we just spend time with people — talking, fellowshiping, praying for people, and hearing from the Lord for situations. Wealso try to be a blessing and help out in the Homes we stay in,time permitting. In our recent visits we’ve majored on showingthe Summit and delegates’ meeting videos to the Homes, whichmade our job quite easy. TTL! I guess being a VS consists of justthat, being a servant.

(Mark:) I work basically full time in the PAS studio ongetting out the GP tools to the Spanish-speaking world. Inbetween projects, I sometimes visitHomes.

? And heres something thatKorie asked, which weve all

wondered about at some time oranother: Mark, did you write the song

Youre My Best Friend or is it a SystemChristian song?

(Mark:) How did you guess? Well, most peoplealready know that it isn’t totally my song. The melodyand part of the chorus lines are from a popular countrysinger, Don Williams. I just inserted a few lyric changeson the chorus and put new words to the verses to sing tothe Lord. I was 17 back then and thought I’d get awaywith no one finding out — but I guess everyone did, ha!

Ooooh! I guessthat must not be right

then. Oh, man, you’ve gottabe like some mega-genius to figure these

out, like some super-human walkingbrain, a master

minded think-machine ...

It’s all rightman. Maybenext time.

THE GHOST AND THE CONVENTFrom Simon, Bulgaria:

During a trip to Italy, Vickyand I went to follow up on a medicalprofessor, an old friend of ours. Hewas very happy to see us again andsaid that our visit was a good sur-prise for him, as he had somethingimportant to tell us that wewould be happy to hear about.(This was right after we hadread the GP pub about “Heav-enly Messengers.”)

He went on to tell usabout a daughter of his wholives in Madrid, Spain. Herdaughter (his granddaughter)was born with a defect in herkidneys, and was taken fromdoctor to doctor. They all saidthat what she had was incur-able. This happened a fewyears ago, and at that timethey didn’t yet have a medi-cal solution to the problem, sothe mother decided to go to apsychic medium to seek ananswer as to whether thechild would get better, or ifshe was going to die.

The medium told her tonot worry, that her daughterwould heal up completely andmiraculously, and she explainedthat this assurance was givento her by an appearance thatshe had from the “spirit world.”

This medium lives inMadrid and has never been to Italy, but she said that the ghost thathadappeared to her was a nun whohaddied about 50 years before in theCatholic convent of a small Italiantown called Orvieto. This ghost saidthat she was taking care of the littlegirl and would help her to recoverand be her protector.

Years went by and recentlyour professor friend received a phonecall from his daughter in Madrid, whotold him that her little girl was mi-raculously healed! She also told himabout the medium and the storyabout the nun, but of course it wasquite hard for our friend to believe, ashe is a man of science and has beentrained to take this sort of “super-natural” thing with a lot of caution.

However, his daughter askedhim if he knew of any nuns that haddied in that particular convent — andto check whether that convent ex-isted at all. So he decided to take alook and see what he could find. Hissister remembered hearing about an

earlier! At first it was very hard

for him to accept this and be-lieve it. But after seeing hisgranddaughter get healed andrealizing that there was no wayfor a Spanish medium who hadnever been to Italy to put to-gether all this information —which neither he nor his daugh-ter knew anything about — he’snow convinced that it is morethan a coincidence.

CONVERSATION WITHJAMES DEANFrom Gabriela (19), CzechRepublic:

“I wonder what happenedto him?”

“James Dean, you mean?”“Yes, did you know that

there are still questions beingasked about his death?”

I didn’t know. I only knewJames Dean from some oldermovies that I saw him act in.Mom remembered him ofcourse; he was popular whenshe was young. I visited her justafter she had watched one ofhis movies, and she came upwith this idea:

“Wouldn’t it be neat tohear from him? Maybe he hassomething he wants to say frombeyond. I mean, we’re hearingfrom all kinds of people; why notfrom him too?”

Sure, I thought, but itwon’t be me. I mean, I’m noteven remotely interested in him.Besides, I don’t know if I’m theright person for the job!

I somehow weaseled myway out of having to do it rightaway, but nevertheless put it onmy to-do list. -- You know, withall the things I procrastinateabout, but intend to take care of“some other time.” Maybe I wouldwrite in and ask someone else todo it, that way it would come outin some form of publication, andeveryone would be happy.

After that I didn’t thinkmuch about it (except when Ilooked at my to-do list). How-ever, one night, as I was justabout to fall asleep, I had thisstrong feeling that James Deanwanted to talk.

Oh, no! I thought, Here Iam all sleepy; I can’t turn thelight on to write anything down

because it’ll wake up the others, and our tape recorderdoesn’t have a recording device. I prayed and askedthe Lord and James Dean if he could keep it till morning. And sure enough, the next morning, right after myprivate Word time, I felt like I should get my paper andpen, and this is what came:

(Message from James Dean:) Hi! So, you wantedto hear from me! Well, I’m more thanhappy to give you this little mes-sage. I was famous in my day. Iwas an idol that everyone wantedto be like. But actually, I was sad!I didn’t like the way things wererunning. I was dissatisfied withmy life. I could have done so muchmore — I see that now. I tried tomake myself famous, so I took onthis image. Well, actually, mymovies portrayed the way I feltinside. I wanted to rebel. Iwanted to be different. That’swhy the young people liked me somuch. I was speaking their lan-guage.

Unfortunately though, Iwasn’t what you might call thevery best role model. I drank a lotand that affected me in a badway. You have no idea haw goodyou guys have it. You have all theanswers right at your fingertips. Ididn’t really have many answers, although I liked to pretend I did.

I had so much emptiness inside. And loneliness! — Boy, was I lonely. Youknow, in Hollywood they all pretend tobe your friends, and you think youhave someone you can count on whenthings go wrong. But nothing could befurther from the truth. It’s all just abig show. Sure, there are good guys, they know what they stand for andthey don’t really fit in. But when thecrunch comes and you need some-one to ask questions to or getanswers to your problems, theydon’t really have the answers. It’sall just a phoney. They’re all acting.None of these people are really liketheir movies portray them. Athome, they are just like everyoneelse, with imperfect lives andhunger for love and attention.

Here’s an idea for youguys. You’re all so goodat getting out the mes-sage to the world — why

don’t you try it on some ofthese guys in Hollywood? They sure need it. Or prayfor them! That’s the leastyou could do. You all ad-mire them and like theiracting, etc. But do you takethe time to pray for them?Pray for the world. All the

super-

starsare solonely,

soempty

inside. Ofcourse they

won’t everadmit it, butthey are. I’vebeen there; Iknow what I’mtalking about.

Even some ofthese celebrities

that you think arereally out of it need

your prayers. Theyneed Jesus; He’s the onlyway out. You know whomy heart breaks for?Michael Jackson. He’s goneway off the track. But I seehim in his room at night, andwhen he thinks no one is looking,he’ll cry from loneliness. He was a

Christian, but popularity ruined him. He’s gone offthe track. But I pity him. Just like everyone else, heneeds love. And the Lord loves everyone, good orbad, so don’t give up praying for these guys. Theyneed it.

Well, I’ve said what I wanted most to say. Icould say more, but it’s time for me to quit. Keepin touch, and maybe come visit me again. And

keep in mind what I’ve said. Not thatyou should start becomingMichael Jackson fans now. That’s not the point! The pointis, pray for them! Okay? Well, I’llsee you up here. So long fornow. (End of message fromJames Dean.)

The night before, whenJames had started talkingand I wasn’t able to record it,he said something aboutdying of a broken heart. Ihad the feeling the wholetime he was talking that hehad had a very sad life, andthings didn’t work out theway he would have liked.Although he didn’t sayexactly how he died, I wasunder the impression ithad something to do withwhat he said about drink-ing a lot.

So, Mom, andanyone else interestedin James Dean, I hopeyou find this interest-ing. I sure did.

GODS EARLY NOTICE SYSTEMFrom Miracle, Slovenia:

My mother died givingbirth to me, so I was brought upby my aunt. When I joined theFamily, this aunt became a goodfriend and visited us a few timeswhen we were pioneering Fin-

land. At the time she hadcancer, and she often came tous for prayer. She received theLord and loved to read theWord. She suffered intensepain for five years, and thenthe Lord took her Home.

I did not immediatelyreceive the news that she hadpassed on, because I was inSweden. But she came to me ina dream and told me that shewas now very happy and didnot need to suffer any more. The next day I phoned home

— and was told that thatvery night, she hadpassed away.

Romania just finished aFabulous (now Famous) FamilyFellowship — a Fantasticamalgamation of Firsts. Rang-ing from Romance (the first-ever Family wedding held herein Timisoara) to Reunion (thefirst-ever Romanian fellow-ship). From Enlightenment (thefirst time most of the nationalsmet their CROs) to Enchant-ment (you can guess at thatone).

The fellowship tookplace in Timisoara (famous fororiginating the ’89 revolution[that toppled Communistdictator Ceausescu], hangoutof the hip, and saturated withstudents, but now moresignificantly ON THE MAP forhosting this Heavenly Hora)and was attended by 75people, mostly young peopleand almost all the 40 or sonationals. — As well as CROsPhilip and Dawn, and a teamfrom Hungary.

So hang on to yourhats as we clue you in on allthe cool happenings. It allbegan one evening whenthe TimisoaraHome’shallwayswerejammedwith abustle ofpeoplearrivingfrom all overthe country. After a massivelove feast, abone-crunch-ing hug hereand there, andsome excitedreunions

(“Hey,

gave his stats: 13 hours of hugs asevery team arrived!) everyone wasescorted to their respective rooms(each a few inches taller from passingtheir hug quota). These were mostlyhotel rooms provisioned all over thecity.

The next day included a sizzlinginspiration led by Ben G., Matthew andDaniel, with some rather comical imper-sonations of Bible characters Ezekiel,Isaiah, andHosea. This wasfollowedby aconvict-ing Wordstudy onlove andan openforumwhichPhilip andDawn hadwith thenationals. As an additional treat, a friend donatedthe use of his restaurant for everyone toeat dinner, in rotational shifts of aboutthirty a day ... and as the day stretchedinto evening, it culminated in a dancenight.

We was all purrrty surprised bya visit from Louisiana’s

BIBLE QUIZ: “What’s My Name?”By Andrew of Miracle, Slovenia

From Alf, Praise, Mary and Faith, South Africa:We were merrily on our way back to South Africa

from Zimbabwe when we became aware of a coun-try-wide police action to crack down on illegal stolencars that have been flooding out of South Africathrough Zimbabwe. We were a bit worried, as our carpapers were not yet in perfect order. Not the best situ-ation to be sure, but before going on this trip we hadspecifically asked the Lord about this, and He had in-dicated that as we didn’t have anothercar available for this trip, we didn’t needto worry about it, and that He would takecare of us.

We were able to avoid the first road-block we encountered by a shortcutthrough African bush land. The secondone we sailed through fairly quickly, asthe policeman realized we were tourists. However, the third one was a big road-block and the police were very thorough

mance. (If you wanna emotionalroller-coaster ride, give a glancebelow and read all about it!) Itreally takes the cake — a weddingone at that. Anyway, by then it wasgettin’ late and the lovers couldn’t wait,so down went the lights andit ended with a dance night(at least the organizers tookno responsibility for anyone’spost-party actions). All in all, a prettyfun few days.

(Matthew of Clara): It’s the first time a RFFweds a NRFM (Romanian Family Female; Non-Roma-nian Family Male), and she is beautiful! The guy ...well, at least she’s beautiful, but they both have lots oflove and dedication.

Everybody loves a love story, so here it goes.First the background: The guy comes to Romania inNov. 95, lonely and convinced that he’ll never have arelationship again. That was it, no more honey-bunnynor children for his own. Those that saw him and heardhim talk said, “Behold, a man of convictions!” But ...the guy: “My unbreakable convictions lasted just a fewmonths; I came to Romania to give my all but notwilling to receive!”

Everybody was in awe to see the results: “Yep,he fell for her! — She rescued him from stupidity!”Others frowned at it: “She is just a babe!” The childrensaid: “It’s like in ‘Bambi’!” The girl: “I had to put theLord and my training first, but the waiting made medesperate — oops, typo! — I mean dedicated — well,

you know what I mean!”Yep, you’re right! Those were the days of count-

down, but not to Armageddon. Then that fatefulday arrived. — Wait, folks! Not yet! They justgot engaged. She: 19; he: 34 — and accordingto the Charter ... sorry, I didn’t mean to get

preachy here. You know therules! But only God knows howthey held it, because they went

witnessing for one month at a topless beach. That’s when the guy really gained the confidence ofthe elders! Keep on reading and find out why therewas such a crunch for each other.

Interviewer: What made you change sodrastically?

Guy: Well, she healed my heart when I thought that Icouldn’t love again in this way. I had experienced somedeep heartbreaks in previous relationships, including losingmy children to the System, and I was closed to the idea ofanother relationship. But Clara broke down my walls ofresistance, pulled out her big guns and completely over-whelmed me with understanding, love and faith to tryagain. — There were no ifs and buts: Jesus had started Hishealing process, and all I had to say was YES. Mama’squote “cupid is going around” got fulfilled one more time!

Girl: I fell in love with him because of his brokenheart, tenderness and love. I felt very secure with him. I’mso happy feeling useful healing his heart and the pleasureof having a child.

Another beautiful thing the Lord did was to use thismarriage as an illustration of the foreigners becoming onewith the work and the people, underlining the precious lessonwe all had to learn about working more hand-in-hand.

in their check. Sure enough, when checking our car theydiscovered that not everything was the way it should beand they had to get clearance from the South Africanauthorities to let us through.

They all looked quite official and stern, but the Lordshowed us to come right out and witness to them. So wegot out of the car and started giving posters to all the po-licemen and officials at the roadblock. This resulted in areal change of attitude amongst them, as they became

real friendly and some were very interestedin our message.

Shortly afterwards we were given thegreen light to carry on with our journey, aseverything was checked and cleared. Werealized the Lord might have engineeredthis situation to see how we would react, and if we would be faithful to reach thesesweet people whom we would not havebeen able reach any other way. PTL for Hisinspiring witnessing setups!

This is in answer to yourriddle from Zine 005. I thinkthe answer is the river inthe garden of Eden. I amnot completely sure, but inGenesis chapter two it talksabout the river going intofour heads. And the partabout forsaking joys anddelights, I figured its be-cause it talks about the goldand onyx stone and bdel-lium, but the river has tokeep going so it has to leavethem behind and foreverin the river bed it lies.

I am not 100% sure if it isright, but if it is, then here isa poem I wrote about it:

TheJesus

Revolution wasbegun by a bunchof rowdy reddishradicals from someof the lowest strataof human society andhad in the greatestcontempt by the

established order andhas shocked and shaken

conventionality andthe hypocriticaltraditions of man

The ZINE foretold...

God has to call out a new man with some new motive, to makesome new move to form a new movement of dropouts from theonce-new System, grown old and corrupt, stagnated, contaminated, and frozen together in formality, inflexible, unbendable, unchangeable oldbottles that can only be broken to give birth to the new—just a fragile, empty eggshell whichcannot contain the volatile life within—an empty womb which can only give birth to new life! -- if you can readthis you don’t need glasses! — from DROPOUTS1

Name: Francesco

Studio: JAS

Status: Thank the Lord, I amvery happily married to a beautiful, wonderful woman. Her name is

Crystal Lily, and we have a son, Kevin LeifBradyn, who was born this year on April 17.Time you’ve worked in Family recording: Abouttwo years. In studio work full-time or part-time: Five days aweek. I help on childcare one day a week.Your favorite Family song and why: I don’t reallyhave a favorite Family song, but I have a favoritemusician. — His name is Makoto. He is the leadguitarist for songs such as “Charlie,” “The World Ain’t Got That Much Time,”“Till the End of Time,” “All Hail to the Queen,” and many more. — Oh, oneinteresting fact is that he is a YA, Japanese, of medium height and hand-

some. I love to watch him play!

Song that you worked on which you’re mosthappy with and why: I think would be“Charlie.” Not so much because of how itturned out, but because of how fun it wasto produce. It was a nice change fromdoing slow songs.

Inspiration/Vision/Styles for the future:One of my great desires is to writemore songs — fast, medium, and slow.I am hoping to produce more fastsongs. Particularly rock and dance(R&D) songs. I really like R&D. I hope

to see us produce a lot more of it. If anyof you would like to hear more R&D

produced for the Family, please help usand write new songs that are R&D, or

could be transformed into that. We are run-ning out of songs to produce, especially fast

ones. If we are to continue producing for FTTs wewill need a huge influx of new songs!

Just think, the Lord has millions of songs to give to us — all we have todo is make an effort. I, in particular, will be very interested in producing asong just because it has potential to be a good fast song. So try, venture outand write a new song, and see what the Lord will do for you. If you feelbetter justwriting wordsfor a potentialsong, then dothat, send it in,and one of usmight have aburden to putmusic to it. Ofcourse, if thereis someone inyour Home thatwould like tohelp you with amelody, all thebetter — butsend them in.

Name: Philip (aka Brother Sun)Status: Taken by Japanese Julie, and we haveeight children.Time you’ve worked in Family recording: About12 years. In studio work full-time or part-time: I workpart-time with the JAS studio, and the rest ofmy time I spend with my kids or going outnight-singing.Your musical specialty: My musical specialtyis rock and folk. I also enjoy songwriting.Favorite Family Song: The song I like best is“Let Me Live Just One More Day.” Every time Ihear it, it really feeds me. When I first joined italways made me cry. I also like “The Famine,”written by Kerenina and sung by Sunny. — Itgives me goose bumps. I like songs that touchme.Song I worked on that I’m most happy with:

— I’m happy with the intro of “Just Say Yes.”— I’m happy with the words to “Double Speak.”— I’m happy with the tone and main riff of “They’ve Got the Money.”— I’m happy with the nylon on “My Name Is Nighttime.”— I’m happy with the folk in “The Stranger.”— I’m happy with the solo in “Not Just One Life” and the lead in “Run

to Me.”The song I worked on that I’m least happy with: Almost every recordingsession has emotional lows and inspirational highs. Often in the heat ofdoing tracks, I fall madly in love with the song, and then fall into despairwhen my talent can’t seem to provide the needed excitement. Then by takinga prayer break and with the help of friends, the Lord gives us the magicalmusical keys. Every song I’ve played on has at least a few bars that make mecringe and realize why I retain my amateur status.Inspiration/Vision/Styles for the future: My dream is to one day write a realtouching, heartfelt song, not just a rock ‘n’ roll comedy ditty. But I’m thank-ful that any of my songs get chosen for recording at all. From “Why IsThat Tear in Your Eye?” to “No More War,”there was a 12-year gap of nolasting songs. In the past yearI’ve received about 20 songs, although so far only some havebeen recorded. Please pray thatI can tune in to Jesus and re-ceive songs anointed by HisSpirit! Thank you!

Styles: I hope to experimentmore with the 12-string guitar.I’m also working on a new way tostring a guitar by putting the lowstrings where the high strings goand vice versa. I want to milk allthe possibilities out of acousticguitars to come up with unique andoriginal blends of sounds. Usually Icome in and add guitar as an over-dub to a pre-recorded sequencer-driven BMT of synthesized instru-ments, but I hope to learn moreabout how to build a song fromscratch using live instruments.Comment: When I was 18, I forsookmusic to serve Jesus in the Family.Since then, God in His mercy and lovehas always let me use music in my

service for Him. I feel so privileged to be a Family musician, and I marvel at whatGod is doing. He’s showing that “anyone can be a heart specialist,” and in likemanner, “anyone can be a singer/songwriter and studio musician.” Simple littlenormal people are being used by God to grab the mike on the world stage andencourage all the downtrodden nobodies with unsystem “wild flower” songs. Ilove you.

Kids?Yeah — lots of ’em!Time you’ve worked in Family record-ing: About 9 years.Studio work full-time or part-time?Fulltime.Your musical specialty: Arranging/producing/mixing.Your favorite Family song, and why:“I Sing to Him” — I love the melody, and I can identify with what the songis about. But if you really want toknow, it’s “This Little Light of Mine” from the “Let’sDance” series. We really didn’t have enough time for that number — aboutthree days — and it was a long time ago, ’92.Inspiration/vision/styles for the future: I want to do some serious rock, somereggae, some a-cappella. I want to see Family music completely take the placeof System music — but it’s gotta be good!Comment: It would be nice to see a girl trained as a music producer — notjust a songwriter and singer with a bunch of musical ideas, but someone whowants to do the technical as well. It’s actually not that hard — if you’ve gotan ear for music, a knack for computers, a lot of patience as well as determi-nation, you just might be cut out for it. Do you like adjusting the tone con-trols on tape decks, TVs or big stereo systems? — Drop me a line (via yourABM)! — Oh, yeah, Family music rules!!!

Did you ever see a circus act where the whole family are acrobats, tight-rope walk-ers and trapeze-artists? They often might prefer to do something else ...Here in Bolivia, Andrea and her sisters work shoulder-to-shoulder with their dad, pro-ducing the ever-popular clown show, “Los Popets.” Does that sound easy? Well, what about when 16- year-old Andrea has to go out and dance to“What Kind of Ani- mal Can You Pretend to Be”? — Thebirthday kid is 3 years old, but has a teenagebrother who invited all his friendsfrom the most expen-sive pri- vate highschool in the city! Why do they do it? Askt h e m , they’ll tell you, it’sb e c a u s e they want to helptheir dad make their Home work. Have you ever lived in a country where the major-ity of the population works for an average take-home pay of about $50 per month?

Where the people are so poor thatnearly every time heavy rains come, families are buried alive as their mudhouses collapse on top of them? Wherehundreds of children live in the streetsor in orphanages of every city, simplybecause their parents don’t havemoney to feed them? If you lived in aplace like that, you’d want to find waysto do something to help such people, right?“Los Popets” found that their show ac-complishes several terrific goals. 1) Itgives them a perfect opportunity toknow and be known by a sector of thepopulation that has money, influence, and the ability to help the poor, and totouch their conscience to think of theneedy. 2) It provides enough income

so that the Home can dedicate a good share of its time and energy to improving thequality of life for the poor, especially abandoned children. 3) Shows are fun, chal-lenging, and can be a foun-tain of unlimited creativity fora show team. I mean, it’s likeActivity-nite every day ofthe week!Show-time is a real family af-fair for “Los Popets,” as theyall pile into the jeep and setup the puppet stage, lights, sound system, start face-

painting all the children, getthe games ready and con-duct a 2-3 hour show nearlyevery day.Mama stays home with thelittle one, schedules thecoming show times, andworks on current CTPprojects. The latest one is campaigning for milk powder, so that all the orphan childrencan drink milk every day. Not only does she have to collect the donations, but alsohas to organize passing them out so that staff workers at the orphanages give the milkto the orphans instead of taking it home with them or selling it.Doesn’t 16-year-old Andrea want to get out of town and go to one of those citieswhere lots of people her age congregate and have fellowship? Doesn’t she want togo somewhere where her parents won’t be so tempted to treat her like a kid? Yes, shedoes. Why doesn’t she do it? Well, I think it’s because she’s got a vision for what itmeans to be a missionary, initiative to do her part to make it happen, and the gutsto see it through.By the way, Andrea is the beautiful dark-haired girl in the photo , which was taken at

the border between Chile and Bolivia. The other girl is hergood friend, Claudia, whose mother holds an executiveposition at the local branch of the World Bank. So themoral of the story, boys, is that your dream woman mightbe out there on some remote mission field giving her allfor the lost. If you want to find her, you gotta go to theends of the earth for Jesus, because there are dream girls(and boys), and wonder women (and men) there! The other photo, of course, is the whole show team, “LosPopets.”Buckets of love from Bolivia,

WITNESSING TO THEPOCAHONTAS SHOW GROUP

From Martin (12), Connecticut,USA:

We provisioned tickets to see thePocahontas show on ice. The show wasvery fun, and afterwards we decidedthat we would like to witness and givetracts to the ice-skaters, so we wentdown to the practice area where theywere going to come out. After an hour,a famous skater came out, I think hername was Oksana Bajul [Olympicgold medalist and world champion], butwe were distracted and she left before we could give her atract. We learned a lesson about not letting opportunitiespass! Time went on and it was so cold that we decided to stayonly three minutes more, and that if they didn’t come out, we’dleave.

As my dad went to get the car, the girl who had beenPocahontas in the show came out with her boyfriend. We ranup to her and said, “We want you to have this!” and gave her atract. At first she looked at us like, “Who are you?” But mymom told them that we had gone to the show for free and thatwe also performed in nursing homes, etc., to help people. They were really touched, and very sweet.

More of them came out, and we talked to them and gavethem tracts. Others were from Moscow, Armenia, LosAngeles, Chicago, Canada, etc. Last of all, the skater thatdid the part of John Smith came out with his producer. Weran after him and gave him the tract. When we told him we’dbeen waiting for a long time to see him, and that we visitnursing homes and help people, etc., he was very happy. Hesaid a few times that he was speechless to think we’d beenwaiting so long just to give him that little message. He told usto keep up the good work. It seemed that it made them happythat someone appreciated their show and tried so hard to givethem something in return.

SOUL-WINNING AND THE BLIND MANFrom Angelina (12, of Philip and Jewel), Canada:

One day, as we were going postering, we met ateen girl, sitting in a car by herself. We asked her ifshe’d like a poster. She took one, and as we startedwalking away, my younger sister Emma (8) got acheck that we should have gotten her saved. So we went back and asked her if she was going toHeaven, and if she wanted to pray with us. She saidokay, and she got saved! We got to her just in time, because about a minute later her mom came andthey left. That often happens when we go clowning:The Lord sends some children over and they stayjust long enough for us to explain Salvation to themand get them saved. TYJ!

From David A. (19) of Micha and Sally, Kenya

Well, it’s come to that. I’ve gotta type this up or no one else will. This is thefirst article I’ve written for any type of mag, so if some of you folks think thisarticle’s crummy and you feel like turnin’ over to another page, I don’t blame you. Itjust contains a brief account of one of our CTPs here; ministering to the street boysin some of the juvenile detention centers here in Kenya.

All right, here goes! The very first thing that hits you once you get near theseplaces is the smell. I won’t try to describe it for the simple reason that I don’t knowwith what to compare it. But take my word for it: it’s not inviting.

So, you come into the main gate and you enter this courtyard which is artis-tically decorated with a fine assortment of dried-out-beyond-redemption shrubs andtrees, lending their meager shade to the dusty ground below. These centers aregovernment-owned and all in pitiful condition.

The “courtyard” is surrounded on three sides by the “bedrooms” (althoughat first glance you’d swear it was a garbage dump for old WW2 bunk beds). I won’tgo into the details of what these rooms look like for fear of turning this mag into anemergency bag on account of some sensitive reader.

Each of the four “bedrooms” has 15-20 double bunks in them. Now, dig this... at times there are up to 400 boys in this detention center (or “Approved School,”as they call it here) which means they cram 100 guys into a 5-by-10-meter roomwhich only has about 40 way-below-sub-standard beds. This means that you getfour or five boys (mind you, these guys are between the ages of 7 to 17) sleeping onone level of the bunk.

Many of the boys are in there because of some petty crime, but you do findquite a few who are in there just because they were alone on the street when thepolice came along and hauled them off to the police station. From there they weresent to a “Remand Home” where they awaited their day in court. Once sentenced, they are either sent back home or end up in this “Approved School.”

Most of the boys in these “schools” are plagued by skin diseases such asscabies, due to the constant dirt they are in contact with. When I look at the mat-tresses they’ve got, I’m not one bit surprised that scabies is so rampant there. Theboys are divided into the different rooms and stay there amusing themselves formost of the day, only being let out for meal times. This is where we come in.

We’ve been going to these placesregularly for over half a year

now, with some guys from a Catho-lic organization who startedthis ministry and invitedus to come along.

U s u a l l y ,Juan (of Maggie)spends time withthe boys thatspeak English (nei-ther of us have mastered

the gift of Swahili tongues yet), talking with them, getting toknow a bit of their background, witnessing, losing badly at a game of checkers, etc. In themeantime, I pull out the electric shaving machine and start shaving heads. The boys muchprefer a shaved head because it’s a ton easier to keep clean. I mean, considering the livingconditions and all the dirt you encounter there, I would prefer my head shaved too!

Shaving these guys’ heads is not an easy task at all. In fact, recently I’ve gottengood at shaving with my eyes closed cuz I can’t stand to look at all the life forms they havein their hair. No, it hasn’t gotten that bad yet. But like I said, it’s not an easy, muchless enjoyable task. On a good day (that’s when the shaver be-haves like it should) I can get up to 45 heads done in just overan hour. If the shaver just refuses to cut, which i tsometimes does, I also talk with the boys or join themat a game of soccer.

After about an hour and a half of b e i n gthere, 250-300 of the boys crowd into the diningroom, which is roughly equal in size to their b e d -rooms, and sit down, waiting for us to sing w i t hthem. Somehow we manage to squeezethrough this human sardine can and get fromthe door to the minuscule amount of floorspace allotted us for a stage. Once there, wepull out our guitars and have fun singingwith them. Of all the songs we’ve taught them so far theirfavorites are “Jesus the Light” (which, by the way, translates into Swahilias “Yesu ni mwangaza wa roho yangu”) and “Hallelu-Hallelujah, PraiseYe the Lord,” which we’ve taught them more recently.

It gives you such a good feeling to be packed in a room with them, just being therefor them, to show them a bit of love in their otherwise dull situation. I know for sure that, even if I tried, I won’t forget those times in that jam-packed, dusty room with sunlightshining through the half-cracked windows, and those boys singing and having fun.

Although I meet many of the boys on the street again (they come up to me singing“Jesus the Light”), I’m thankful that, at least we were able to show them a sample ofJesus’ love and give a few of them the eternal treasure of Salvation.

PS: Enclosed is a picture Isketched of me shaving a boy’s head.

For obvious reasons, we’re not al-lowed to bring a camera near

these places, so theLord gave us an

idea of sketch-ing a scenelike they do

in court-rooms.
