Bulletin for December 2017
December, 2017
Dear Parish Family,
In the month of December, we have two special occasions to honor our Blessed
Mother. We have the Immaculate Conception on December 8th, which is a Holy Day
of Obligation, with masses at 6:30 am, 12:10 pm and 6:00 pm. The Feast of Our
Lady of Guadalupe is on December 12th with masses at 5:00 am, 6:30 am, 12:10 pm
and 6:00 pm. What a wonderful way to begin this Christmas season.
As we begin the Advent season, our Parish is going to embark on a journey to
WELLNESS. During the month of Advent, we are going to be addressing Jesus and
our emotional wellness. Our different activities will be centered on getting rid of
anxiety and unnecessary fear and living in emotional wellness.
After Advent, we will move to physical wellness and in the Lenten season we will
move to mental wellness. We will conclude in Ordinary Time with spiritual wellness.
When “I” is replaced by “We” even illness becomes Wellness. Together, we can
grow and create a community based on balance, health and wellbeing. As we
welcome the Christ child at Christmas, let this be the beginning of our journey to
wholeness and holiness.
We will welcome in the new year on December 31st with our Annual New Year’s
Adoration beginning at 11:30 pm.
Wishing all of you a merry and holy Christmas.
Blessings,
The Month dedicated to Advent and the coming of Christ

Did You Know?
History of the mission for the Homeless of the Vietnamese Ministry
In 2005, inspired by the generous work for the poor, organized by our parish every week, some people in the Vietnamese community got together and formed a small group aiming to provide 100 sandwiches per month for the homeless at Rescue Mission here in Bakersfield. In that regard, bread was provided by General Mills and chips were donated by Taco Pronto restaurant. A year later, we increased the quantity to 150 meals, then in
2007 it was increased to 200 meals each month. Later on, beginning in 2008, we also provided 200
monthly sandwiches for St. Vincent de Paul, in addition to the 300 for Rescue Mission. In 2010, a small group of Buddhists in Bakersfield followed our footsteps to help sponsor the program. They used the facility here at our
parish to provide 300 sandwiches for the Rescue Mission. The Vietnamese Ministry has committed to
provide 500 meals per month for both centers (Rescue Mission and St. Vincent de Paul).
During the holidays, in addition to sandwiches, we also provide the homeless with necessities such as blankets,
toys, toothpaste, and tooth brushes.
Please contact the front office if you would like to get involved!

From the desk of Heidi Scott:
As we all prepare for special Christmas feasts and holiday with
loved ones, our musicians add the task of preparing the music for
Advent and Christmas liturgies. This takes time and devotion to
learning music and making sure it is ready as it is needed. Our
musicians not only do this for Christmas but all through the year.
Just a quick note to thank our musicians for making sure we can
sing with the angels on high once more as we herald the birth of
our Savior. If you are inspired by the music, and you have a gift
to share with all of us, talk to a musician who can explore with
you the ways we can help you use your gifts. Wishing
all a Merry Christmas filled with the sounds of the season.
