“Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you.” Romans 15:7

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church warmly welcomes people of any age, race, nationality, sexual orientation, life circumstance, and physical or mental capability.

P The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

C And also with you.

Gathering WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM

P Alleluia! Christ is risen.

C Christ is risen indeed. Alleluia!

P Joined to Christ in the waters of baptism, we are

raised with him to new life. Let us give thanks for the gift of baptism.

C Amen. Water is poured into the font as the presiding

minister gives thanks.

P We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning you created us in your image and planted us in a well-watered garden. In the desert you promised

pools of water for the parched, and you gave us water from the rock. When we did not know the way, you sent the Good Shepherd to lead us to still waters. At the cross, you watered us from Jesus’ wounded side, and on this day, you shower us again with the water of life. We praise you for your salvation through water, for the water in this font, and for all water everywhere. Bathe us in your forgiveness, grace, and love. Satisfy the thirsty, and give us the life only you can give. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever.

C Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY

P O God our shepherd, you know your sheep by name and lead us to safety through the valleys of death. Guide us by your voice, that we may walk in faith and hope to the joyous feast you have prepared in your house through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

C Amen.

GOSPEL ANNOUNCEMENT “Alleluia”

PSALM: Psalm 23 Sharon Bost (read responsively)

L The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

C He makes me lie down in green pastures; and leads me beside still waters;

L he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.

C Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff—they comfort me.

L You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

C Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.

APOSTLES’ CREED

P With the whole church, let us confess our faith.

C I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was

buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Paul Christensen (As the Minister closes each petition with the words, “Lord, in your mercy,” worshippers respond with the words, “hear our prayer.”)

LORD’S PRAYER P Lord, remember us in your kingdom and teach

us to pray.

C Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and

the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

DISMISSAL

P Christ is risen, just as he said. Go in peace. Share the good news. Alleluia!

C Amen.

Sending

BLESSING

P May the One who raised Jesus from the dead raise you to new life, fill you with hope, and turn your

mourning into dancing. Almighty God, Father, ☩ Son, and Holy Spirit, bless you now and forever.

C Amen.

REOPENING POSTPONED UNTIL JUNE 1 With an abundance of care for the members of Good Shepherd, and upon the recommendation of Bishop Kevin Strickland and the Synod Council of the Southeastern Synod, our own GSLC Council has made the difficult decision not to resume in-person worship services or activities in May. Our new target date to resume activities is June 1, and to resume live Sunday worship services is June 7. Until then, we will continue to post online worship services and hold virtual business meetings and activities. Even as we anticipate reopening, we are aware that there may be both temporary and permanent changes to our practices and procedures. Our goals are to make reopening as safe as possible, and to be better positioned for any future crises. Our Council will be studying these matters in the coming weeks. They will rely heavily upon the continuing recommendations of the Southeastern Synod, the CDC, local government, and the wisdom of our congregational leaders. Please continue to hold our congregation in your prayers, and to keep your giving up-to-date as you are able. Though we are doing many things in new ways, our mission and ministry is still vital.

OUR NEXT BLOOD DRIVE is Saturday, May 9, 2020 from 8am to 1:00 pm. We will only accept donators by appointment. You can sign up online at www.redcross.org. Our sponsor code is: goodshepherdlutheran. Appointments fill up fast so be sure to sign-up today. Blood donation is a safe process, and people should not hesitate to give and receive blood. The Red Cross MUST follow CDC and FDA guidelines to keep these drives open. The FDA and CDC have been visiting random blood drives to make sure they are following protocol. Everyone’s temp must be taken before they enter the room. This will be done at the front door of the church. After passing the temperature station each person must pass through a sanitizing station. At that point each donor must have their history taken. Beds are all at least 6 feet apart. It is essential to keep the staff as well as the donors safe during the entire blood donation process.
