Praying the Angelus

For centuries Catholics have been encouraged to stop their daily activities and pray a prayer called the Angelus, three times a day: at morning, noon, and evening (outside of the Easter Season). You perhaps have heard the bells of St. Mary’s ringing a special ring at 6am, 12pm, and 6pm. (Yes, we wake up the city!) When rung with bells, you’ll hear a series of three bells rung three times with pauses in between. After the third set of three, the bells peal in celebration. While the bells are rung, we say the prayer below, which can be done alone or with others. It doesn’t take much time, but can have a huge impact. Any time we stop what we are doing and give God our time, only great things can happen.

THE ANGELUS

V. The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.

R. And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, …

V. Behold the handmaid of the Lord.

R. Be it done unto me according to thy word.

Hail Mary, full of grace, …

V. And the Word was made Flesh. (genuflect or bow)

R. And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary, full of grace, …

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.

R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray. Pour forth, we beseech thee, O Lord, thy grace into our hearts, that we to whom the Incarnation of Christ thy Son was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection. Through the same Christ Our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

O clement, O loving, O sweet Mother Mary, We, your children of every nation,

Turn to you in this pandemic. Our troubles are numerous; our fears are great. Grant that we might deposit them at your feet,

Take refuge in your Immaculate Heart, And obtain peace, healing, rescue, And timely help in all our needs.

You are our Mother. Pray for us to your Son.

Amen.

Act of Spiritual Communion

My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Holy Mass Intentions

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl throughout the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

FROM THE BENCH Our opening hymn, The Kingdom of God, highlights the

concept that runs throughout the New Testament and in

our society that we, as Christians, have an earthly

“kingdom”, but that our highest loyalty to, and hope for, is

the Kingdom of God. The third verse highlights the fact

that the two kingdoms interact, when it says, “The

Kingdom of God is challenge and choice…” This is true on

both a personal level and a political level. We must help

welcome the outcast to the Banquet, as our Father in

heaven will welcome them/us. We are challenged to live

out Christ’s welcome to the sinner, by offering His mercy

and grace, to ourselves as sinners, as well as to our

brothers and sisters. That is not easy. The last verse of this

hymn begins, “God’s Kingdom is come, the gift and the

goal…” We are constantly being challenged to live up to

the example of Our Lord. Thankfully in our country, we can

endeavor to achieve the goal and accept the challenge to

live the Kingdom of God.

Parish Gift Shop

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Gift Shop will remain closed until further notice.

Altar Flower Donations

Donating altar flowers is a simple, lovely way to honor a loved one, glorify God, and add beauty to the altar. Flowers can be donated in honor of a living person, memory of someone who has died, in celebration of an anniversary or other milestone, or in thanksgiving for friends or family. You can choose any Sunday or

have an open Sunday chosen for you. The names of those being honored or remembered will appear in the bulletin on the Sunday you select. If you prefer, you can simply give the flowers to the Glory of God. The suggested donation amount is $250 for two arrangements. To donate, please call Janet Morris at the parish office at 803.649.4777.

Eternal God of Endless Mercy

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.
