Phlebotomists are responsible for drawing blood for tests, donations, or transfusions in hospitals and laboratories. Those interested in Phlebotomy can earn a certificate in just two semesters.

SKILLS FOR THE JOBStudents in the Phlebotomy program learn the techniques and procedures to collect blood from patients or donors for diagnostic testing. Additionally, ethical and legal responsibilities, effective communication, and safe practices are studied.

EXPERIENTIAL LEARNINGClinicals are completed at local hospitals during the spring semester to prepare students for a career. By working under the supervision of a skilled phlebotomist, students gain real-world experience providing direct care, as well as receiving one-on-one training.

EMPLOYMENTOPPORTUNITIESAfter successfully completing the program, graduates are eligible to earn national certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

IN-DEMAND CAREERSPhlebotomists can be employed at hospital laboratories, blood banks and donor centers, home healthcare agencies, and more. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for phlebotomists is projected to grow 23 percent through 2028, much faster than the average for other occupations.
