The forward momentum of Economic Development efforts are con nuing. Several pos-

posi ve conversa ons happening.
In January, MMP Enterprises, a Toronto, Canada based company made the announce-
ment they will be expanding their opera ons into the United States and have chosen
Sidney. MMP Enterprises will occupy the building located at 1 Cabela Dr soon. They
have commi ed to crea ng 155 jobs in Sidney over the next three years. This is an ex-
ci ng opportunity for Sidney and for MMP Enterprises. We are commi ed to working
with the team at MMP Enterprises to get their facility staffed and opera ng.
The City hosted a Career Fair on January 9th at the Cheyenne County Community Center. Twenty local businesses with
career opportuni es a ended, including MMP Enterprises. Over 230 job seekers a ended the career fair talking to po-

Two new ecommerce companies with headquarter opera ons in Sidney recently launched their websites. Highby Out-
doors and NexGen Ou i ers are companies formed by entrepreneurs who choose to stay in Sidney and start their new
business ventures. The companies offer a variety of outdoor gear, hun ng, shoo ng, fishing and camping products. They
are outdoor experts ready to service customers. We are excited both companies choose Sidney to start their companies
and look forward to their future and growth in the community.
I am working with the Sidney High School principal, Mr. Arent and a group of local manufacturing companies to host a
manufacturing assembly at Sidney High School on April 10th. The assembly will provide an overview from local manufac-
turing companies on job and career path opportuni es to sophomores and juniors. The con nued partnership with the
school is exci ng and we are con nuing to work on “growing our own”.
We are con nuing our rela onship with CGI Video Produc on and look forward to new and updated videos being pro-

businesses that have had success expanding in Sidney, the quality of life, and real estate, reloca on and a rac ons.
So many exci ng and posi ve things are con nuing to happen in Sidney and Cheyenne County. I look forward to con n-

Cheyenne County Chamber’s Ag Social Each year the Cheyenne County Chamber Ag Committee hosts an Ag Social to thank Ag Producers in Cheyenne County. The Committee also offers two scholarships to seniors in Cheyenne County who are seeking an higher education in a Ag Re-lated Field. Scholarship applications can be picked up at your school counselor’s office, at the Chamber Office and it is post-ed on the Chamber Website. www.cheyennecountychamber.com What Is Ag Day? It's a day to recognize and celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture. Every year, producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government agencies and countless others across America join together to recognize the contribu-tions of agriculture. When Is Ag Day? Ag Day is celebrated on March 14, 2019. National Ag Day falls during National Ag Week, March 10-16, 2019. Who Hosts Ag Day? The Agriculture Council of America hosts the campaign on a national level. However, the awareness efforts in communities across America are as influential - if not more - than the broad-scale effort. Again this year, the Ag Day Planning Guide has been created to help communities and organizations more effectively host Ag Day events. What Is Ag Day All About? Ag Day is about recognizing - and celebrating - the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives. The National Ag Day pro-gram encourages every American to: Understand how food and fiber products are produced. Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy. Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products. Why Celebrate Agriculture? Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use and wear on a daily basis. But too few people truly understand this contri-bution. This is particularly the case in our schools, where students may only be exposed to agriculture if they enroll in related vocational training. By building awareness, the Agriculture Council of America is encouraging young people to consider career opportunities in agriculture. Each American farmer feeds more than 165 people ... a dramatic increase from 25 people in the 1960s. Quite simply, Ameri-can agriculture is doing more - and doing it better. As the world population soars, there is an even greater demand for the food and fiber produced in the United States. What Can I Do to Help? Put simply, get involved! Your participation in Ag Day is critical in helping us spread this positive message about agriculture. If you are interested in planning an event, download your Planning Guide today. Of course, there are other ways you can lend your support, including sending a letter to your local newspaper, calling your Congressional representatives or simply sharing information about agriculture with youngsters in your community. Where Can I Find More Information? Contact the Agriculture Council of America at (913) 491-1895.

Leadership Cheyenne County – Lincoln Trip The month of February was a busy one for the Leadership Cheyenne Class. February 5‐6 was spent in Lincoln and the focus was on understanding the Nebraska legislature (along with some fun tours thrown in!) When we arrived in Lincoln, the first thing we did was tour the Governor’s Mansion, which is quite elaborate. We were surprised to learn about the various items in the home and asked many ques ons, even some that could not fully be an‐swered by our guide for security reasons. A er the mansion, we headed to Memorial Stadium for an extensive tour of the facili es and field. This was an awesome me for our group, and we were all impressed with the be‐hind‐the‐scenes look into the stadium and the student‐athlete experience. We finished day one with mini ses‐sions that covered Leadership Nebraska and a detailed overview of how the Nebraska unicameral works to get us ready for the next day. Day two was spent at the Capitol where we kicked off the morning with mee ng Pete Ricke s and a tour of the building. We then sat in on a legisla ve session where various senators were expressing their views about a new bill. In the viewing area, we also found Senator Erdman and went with him to his office to learn about what he is focusing on for our district. This Lincoln trip was a great opportunity to truly learn about how the state of Nebraska legisla on process works and see it first‐hand, but we also had some me to bond as a class which is extremely beneficial to building stronger connec ons throughout our community.

Leadership Cheyenne County – Educa on Day Before we knew it, we were back together for our regularly scheduled February class held at WNCC with a er‐noon sessions emphasizing educa on in the community. Jamie Weingart was back for her morning session, and this class was all about forming effec ve, high‐performing teams. We learned how important it is to communi‐cate the values of an organiza on clearly to team members and to show them what the “why” is (the reason why an organiza on does what it does) and not just the mechanics of each process. A er lunch, we toured Sid‐ney High School and the WNCC Avia on center where we learned all about the program and were even able to see students in ac on. We arrived back in our classroom for a presenta on by Paula Abbo and a tour of the WNCC Innova on and Entrepreneurship Center. We concluded the day with learning about the TeamMates Mentoring program in Sidney and the value it has on both students and mentors. If you are interested in becom‐ing a TeamMate, please email [email protected] or visit the website at www.teammates.org. Mentors are always needed! WNCC was an amazing host for our class and we thank everyone who helped us throughout the day from the beginning of the class, to the delicious lunch, and on to the a ernoon sessions!
