The Fortress of Bendery, Moldova Bendery is within the internationally recognized borders of Moldova, but since 1992 has been under the de facto control of the unrecognized Transnistria Republic. In 1538, the Ottoman sultan Suleiman the Magnificent conquered (Tighina) from Moldavia, and renamed it Bender. Its fortifications were developed into a full fortress under the same name under the supervision of the Turkish architect Koji Mimar Sinan . The Fortress of

Bendery, Moldova

Bendery is within the internationally recognized borders

of Moldova, but since 1992 has been under the de facto

In 1538, the Ottoman sultan Suleiman the Magnificent

conquered (Tighina) from Moldavia, and renamed it

Bender. Its fortifications were developed into a full fortress
