Month of April 2015
Happy Endings… Holy Week has just begun. When we read about Christ’s final week
in Jerusalem we are reminded of the reason for his coming. In faith we see
that his death offers immeasurable benefits to humankind. Jesus endured
the brutal death and humiliation of the cross to provide forgiveness for
sins and restore the broken relationship between human beings and God;
through the eyes of faith we also see that God wasn’t defeated by the death
of his Son. The story of Jesus isn’t called the bad news of God’s demise. On
the morning of Easter Sunday, the crucified Jesus was dead no more! He
arose to new life and walked out of the tomb. Death had no permanent
hold on him who created life. Jesus’ story is called the Good News because
it has a happy ending.
Jonathan, who had been promised a new puppy for his tenth
birthday, had a tough time choosing one from the dozen likely candidates at
the neighborhood pet shop. With his nose pressed against the glass, he gave
each one a good going-over. After examining all his options, he decided on a
nondescript, shaggy pup that was wagging his tail furiously. He explained his
choice to his parents, “I want the one with the happy ending.”
God offers everyone a happy ending through the life, death, and
resurrection of Jesus his Son. This Easter season, forget the failures and
defeats of the past, be raised to new life with Jesus Christ, and live into
the happy ending he secured for you.

Thanks to our Volunteers! The Backpack Ministry is now delivering 1,253 bags of food
to children every Friday at 19 schools in 3 counties. We are
so blessed to have committed volunteers that pack, shop,
stock and deliver every week. Each school has two teams: one that packs and a separate team that delivers. There are
over 300 people that volunteer in some capacity every week!
Among these are many volunteers from the community. Here are a few of the organizations that volunteer their time and money : State Bank employees , Macon
Orthopaedic and Hand Center, Exchange Club of Macon,
Junior League of Macon, Sertoma Club, Mercer football players, Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Howard High
School, Vineville Baptist Church, cub scout groups, youth
groups, children ministries from several churches, FPD
middle school kids, Mercer University marketing and
communications department, Kiwanis Club of Macon,
Countryside Baptist, First Baptist, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Publix, Waites and Foshee Insurance Company, and
numerous Sunday School Classes from Forest Hills.
Three scouts have performed various projects at the
Backpack House as their Eagle Scout Project. We have
received donations of money, an enclosed trailer for shopping, a shed used to store extra food, and shelving for stocking our weekly supplies.
As you can see, the Backpack House is full of volunteers working and receiving a blessing by feeding hungry children. We are so blessed to have a church and
community that embraces the need to feed hungry children in our neighborhoods. Thank you so much for your dedication and commitment to serve.
