“And He Shall Reign Forever and Ever”

In 1977, at the age of 12, I had the privilege of visiting England with my mother and grandmother. That year was the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. Forty years have passed and she is still the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom and the British Commonwealth. In fact, Monday, February 6, marked the 65th anniversary of her ascension to the throne, which followed the death of her father, King George VI. There have been numerous political figures to rise and fade during my 52 years on earth, but one constant has been the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, now the longest reigning monarch in the history of British royalty dating back to 1066 with William the Conqueror, winner of the Battle of Hastings. I have always respected the dignity of the queen, along with her sense of duty, something that has not always been seen in her descendants. Despite the long reign, we realize that one day she will pass from the scene. Already past 90, her days on earth are few. But remember while earthly kingdoms rise and wane, and monarchs come and go, there is a kingdom that has been established that shall never be destroyed (Dan. 2:44), and concerning its King, Jesus Christ, “he shall reign forever and ever” (Rev. 11:15).
