$525.00 Lot # 16 in Lexington John Wilkinson and Margaret his wife; William Long and

Mary his wife, all of Blount County, Tennessee to John Irvine of Rockbridge. William

Brown, formerly of Lexington, died seized and possessed of Lot #16 in Lexington, situated

on corner of Washington and Main sts; being 128 1/3 ft on Washington, 97 1/2 ft on Main st;

originally laid off and claimed by Andrew Reid. Two undivided fourths of said lot which

they conveyed to John Jordan and he to John Irvine. Other 2/4 vested to William Brown,

Jr.

and George Brown. Both George Brown and William Brown, Jr. presumed dead, so entire

lot conveyed.

Here is another connection. The Brown family supplied the property upon which Walnut

Grove Methodist Church and cemetery was built. I have the Brown deeds from McMinn

County, Tn. register of deeds office. It was Mary C. Brown from that family who married

"Dock" Brock, the son of my great-great-grandfather Terry Wayne Brock. I don't

remember if Dock Brock was the son of Terry Wayne Brock and first wife Elizabeth

McDowell or of Terry Wayne Brock and second wife Elizabeth "Betsie" Walker.

My great-great-grandfather Simeon Simpson Smith bought part of the Brown estate in

McMinn County, Tn. It was 1825 when William Long made the land grant purchase.

Notes for JOHN WALKER JR WALKER:

John Walker Jr. first obtained property in Blount County, Tn. from John Walker Sr.

on April 22, 1798 registered on page 203 of Deed Book B.

In March of 1820 he sold that property to his brother Samuel Walker. Then in Knoxville,

Tn. on Nov. 1820 he purchased Hiwassee Land Grant property with Rev. Robert Walker,

Andrew Cowan, and Lewis Ball. John's purchased an adjoining track north of Rev. Robert

Walker's property.

He remained in McMinn County, Tn. for some time and then migrated to other states. He

eventually ended up in Benton County, Arkansas as did his daughter Ann who married

John Roper Wooten in McMinn County, Tn. in 1838. The list of his children's names came

from a transcribed posting of his family bible. From that family bible it can be seen that

his first born daughter was named Mary which indicates that Mary was his mother's

name.

There are four ancestral lines for Elizabeth Walker Brock. DNA evidence indicates that

those are descended from John Alexander Walker , Christopher Houston, Jacob Beck, and

John Rutherford. Walker descendant Russell David Walker took the y-dna test and his

matches prove the connection to John Walker II and Katherine Rutheford.

Notes for Devault Beck:

Devault Beck is the father of all the Becks in America. In 1750 he and Catherine and their

three children left Germany to come to the American Colonies. They arrived in Philadelphia

aboard the ship “Phoenix”, under the command of Captain John Mason, on Aug 28, 1750.34

They settled in Pennsylvania in Hereford Township, Berks County and attended Zion’s

Lutheran Church.36 In 1768 he and his wife were sponsors at the baptism of their grandson,

John Phillip Beck.36 Soon after he moved to Abbott’s Creek in Rowan (now Davidson) County,

NC.

Devault wrote his will on Dec 17 1773 leaving his property to his wife Catherine and his six

children. He did not die soon afterwards however; since in 1786 he deeded property to his

sons and to himself in Rowan County, N. C.

Initially Devault supported Britain at the outbreak of the American Revolution, however later

he found it more lucrative to support the revolutionaries and on August 6, 1778 he swore an

oath of allegiance to the revolutionary government. On November 4, 1784, he received two

land grants for 200 acres and 500 acres. On April 24, 1786, he sold 200 acres to his son John

for 12 British pounds and 200 acres to his son George for 6 pounds. He also landed a cushy

government job on February 12, 1785 when the county court appointed him to view and

straighten the Virginia road.36 He died in 1795 in Rowan County, NC.

in North Carolina: “On November 7, 1775, (Jacob) was brought before the Committee of Safety

in Rowan County to give an account of his political sentiments; he asked to be allowed to

consider it until the next day and Capt. David Smith became surety for his appearance. Smith

brought him before the Committee on November 10, and because of "Beck's notorious

contempt of this committee and opposition to American measures," the Committee resolved

to send him to jail. When Beck was again brought before the Committee, he "cheerfully

signed" and swore to the test. On August 6, 1778, he swore allegiance to the Revolutionary

government.

On October 10, 1783, Beck received a North Carolina grant of 200 acres on Abbott's Creek

adjoining Lewis Winkler and sold it to Christopher Cline for 150 British pounds on July 4, 1786.

On September 8, 1786, he bought 200 acres on the South Fork of Swan's Creek from Samuel

Barnes; he also received another grant and sold 200 acres to Godfrey Ratz on October 29,

1789, 200 acres to John Lopp on January 22, 1790, and 100 acres to John Lopp on February 6,

1793.”

Mary Winkler, wife of Jakob Beck, was the daughter of Lewis Winkler (sometimes known as

Ludwig Winkler). One source indicates that Lewis Winkler’s wife was Christina Catherina

Dietz and lists parents for the couple in Germany. Lewis is said to have been born 15 April

1726 in Einod, Z, Germany. There were eight siblings listed. Test number F209176 is for a

descendant from Henry Winkler and matches at about 6 cousin distance on gedmatch.comth

as a cousin to James Ronald Thompson. The maximum block width of shared dna is 4.4 cM

and the total shared dna is 18.8 cM. Ray Lantrip also is descended from Jakob Beck and Mary

Winkler and shares a maximum block width of 5.0 cM and total shared dna of 21.7 cM.

Lewis Winkler died about 13 April 1798 in Rowan/Davidson County, N. C. Prior to that he

dispersed his property among his children. One record in Rowan County Deed book 19 page

511 is for the property sale of Mary Winkler Beck’s brother Henry Winkler. It states 17 Nov.

1801. Henry (H) Winkler, planter, to George Leach for $800.00, 260 A. on Swearing Crk adj

George Blaze, Alexander Yarborough, Lewis Winkoler, Daniel Waggoner, John Lopp, and

Michael Beard. It was three pieces of land. (1) 200 acres granted by the State to Lewis

FT-DNA cousin relationships test results

James Ronald Thompson did a FT-DNA cousin test. This test proved the ancestral data for the

Smith and Wattenbarger families. The Mosies Asbury Wattenbarger ancestral files indicate

maternal ancestors of Sliger, and Brown. One cousin match showed up between James

Ronald Thompson and common ancestor of Katherine Brown and Adam Sliger.

One cousin match was to Pat Schiro who is descended from Nancy Thompson Gentry,

daughter of paternal ancestor Elisha Thompson. Family GED files indicate that Pat Schiro is

4th cousin to James Ronald Thompson and that is exactly what the

test results indicate.

The following pages contain the cousin DNA matches. Some maternal ancestors are not

named when there are multiple matches to the same person. The main surprise in these

files is the match to the Davies/Davis family for which a multitude of matches exist. It is

clear from this file that one of the maternal ancestors had Davis family descendants. Davis

is also one of those names associated with the James Potts descendants and that could be

the common connection which has not yet been investigated. James Ronald Thompson

matched as 5 to distant cousin to Gary Wayne Bradford who is descended from Jamesth

Potts and second wife Cecila Givens. From research into Burke County, North Carolina

census records it appeared that James Potts and first wife Susannah Absher were the only

couple available as the parents of Mary Jane Potts who married John Penix. Based on that

supposition the relationship between James Ronald Thompson and Gary Wayne Bradford

should be 6 cousin once removed. This cousin finder relationship offers strong scientificth

evidence that this James and Susannah Abshire Potts were the parents of Mary Jane Potts.

lists Catherine Walker as a maternal ancestor. He lists her as the daughter of Robert Walker, neighbor

to Terry Wayne Brock. Robert was the brother to William Houston Walker. BOTH brothers had a

daughter named Elizabeth with Robert's daughter being identified as dying in Texas. The William

The DNA files list Lester Johnson Hunt as a 5 cousin to James Ronald Thompson and the data indicatesth

that the match is through the Walker ancestral line. When Lester’s GED file was checked it shows

Catherine Walker was the daughter of Robert Walker who was the brother of William Houston Walker.

The GED file shows that Robert’s daughter, Catherine Walker, was born 9, June 1822 in McMinn County,

Tennessee. She was married to William S. Roberts who was born 25 March 1821 in McMinn County,

Tennessee. Catherine Walker Roberts died 14 May, 1907 in Bolivar, Mo. Her husband, William S.

Roberts died 14 Feb. 1909 in Bolivar, Mo.
