The following is a flow chart designed to help identify a service member’s veteran status under Minnesota State
Law. The service member’s discharge paperwork or equivalent is required.
Please note there may be different acronyms for the same types of service depending on the branch of
service.

Does the documentation indicate “Active” component?

duty after 10/16/1981?
