Reading Bugs Children’s Book Club @ the Library

Harry Potter Reads Banned Books!

What do Roald Dahl and Dr. Seuss have in common? Yes, they are both children’s authors, and yes, they are both beloved by most who read them. But did you know that they are also both authors who have been banned? Banned Books Week is celebrated during the last week of September every year to acknowledge how lucky we are that we are able to read what we choose! Join us Tues-day, October 2 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm for crafts, snacks, and games all celebrating our favorite books that have been banned or challenged. Because, as even Hermione knows, “Oh Harry, don’t you see? If she could have done one thing to make absolutely sure that every single person in this school will read your interview, it was banning it!”

Africa

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is coming to the Windsor-Severance Library to present their hands-on pro-gram “Africa”. Participants aged 5 – 12 years old, will learn about the animals that live in Africa and will have the op-portunity to touch many African objects. This program will be offered twice on October 16. There will be a program for Homeschooled children from 3:00 - 3:45 pm and a program after school from 4:00 - 4:45 pm. Space is limited to 30 chil-dren in each class. Please sign-up at the library in the Chil-dren’s department or call 686-6908. For more information, please contact Deb at [email protected].

It’s getting cooler! Are you starting to feel like getting out your knitting or needle point? How about learning a new hand craft called Needle Felting? Deb Kauffman will be teaching the easy and beautiful craft of needle felting on October 9 at 6:00 pm. You will learn the basics of needle felting and complete a simple project during the class. This program is for teens and adults. All supplies will be provided. No experience is necessary. Please register on the library’s website (www.clearviewlibrary.org) or at the front desk at the library. For more information, please contact Deb at [email protected].

Teens Own the Night

Do fangs excite you? Do you enjoy the color black? Is your ideal job a ghost hunter? Then this might be the bookclub for you!

This exclusive teen bookclub focuses on all things creepy, dark, and mysterious. The club will meet at the library on the first Thursday of each month at 3:30 pm. Free pizza will be served every time! Any teens that have a morbid curiosity and are 13+ are welcome to join.

The introductory meeting will be held on Thursday, October 4 at 3:30 pm. We’ll make Gothic Jewelry and vote on the books we want to read. Oh, yeah, and of course, there’ll be pizza.

If you are aged 12 to 18 and are interested in volunteering at the library, consider applying to join YAC, our Youth Advisory Council. This year’s council members will help design pro-gramming for teens, select fiction for the young adult collec-tion, and begin working on the Teen Space Remodel project.
