Welcome New Members! We welcomed these new members to the congregation
on Sunday, April 21 at the 9am worship service.
Hello! We are the Balcerek Family - Charles, Erica, Carter (8), Chase (5), and Emma (9 mo). We were married in 2008 and found our home a few months later, in the Somerset area. Charles is an Air Quality Engineer, working in Woodbury, MN and Erica is a Title Examiner, working in New Richmond, WI. We are also both Wisconsin-born and raised - Go Pack Go! Carter enjoys playing sports (soccer and baseball) and video games. Chase tried his hand at wrestling this winter and did a wonderful job! Emma is just starting to crawl - everywhere, and is the happiest girl around. We have a dog, Zoey, and a cat, Lola. We look forward to every Friday night, as that is our "Family Movie and Pizza night", and is something that we have made a positive tradition in our home. We're happy to be joining NR-UMC and raise our children how we both were.
I grew up in Wales, WI in a Lutheran family. My parents, Maureen and Duane, were founding members of All Saints Lutheran Church. I recall that Sunday for my family meant driving two vehicles to church so that my mom could attend choir practice after service while my Dad, brother and I would hurry home in time for the Packer game. In 1999 I met my wife Jenny (VanDyk) in college and in 2002 we were married here at New Richmond UMC. We have two sons, Tyler (15) and Ben (11) and one dog Ranger who some of you met at the service in Mary Park last summer. Together as a family, we spend most weekends fishing in the summer. The boys and I enjoy hunting in the fall. I try and sneak out for a round of golf as time allows with our busy schedule. I have worked at Bosch Packaging (Doboy) since 2001.
Hello! We are the Pace Family: Jeremy, Allison, Wyatt (3) and Noah (1). We moved to New Richmond in September 2018 from Northern Minnesota, after a brief stint in Georgia. Jeremy is originally from Georgia, Allison from Ohio, and we met in Kentucky working for a home repair organization. We love to spend time outside as a family, and once the weather warms up, you will find us out on a lake fishing! We look forward to making New Richmond and NRUMC our home.

BRUNCH CHURCH Sunday, May 26 at the Greaton Room at Champs! On May 26 for the regular 9:00am worship service, come to the Greaton Room at Champs for Brunch Church! Since our worship theme is “New Frontier,” the worship design team wanted to worship in a different space. You are welcome to order breakfast off the menu while we worship. Invite your friends who may feel intimidated by a church building or like the thought of worshipping while eating breakfast! (There will be no worship service at the church building this Sunday.)
IRA and Stock Gifts There are significant tax benefits for giving to the church directly from your IRA or other
retirement account. Also, if you have stock and would like to make a gift to the church
from it, our United Methodist Foundation can process those gifts without any fees. Please
contact Kristi if you are interested in giving to the church in either of these ways.
Pastors Jeremy and Anna study Paul and
the Early Church in Greece Pastor Jeremy and his wife Anna are on a study tour in Greece led
by the Wisconsin Annual Conference from April 22 through May 4.
They will be learning about the Apostle Paul, his mission churches
and techniques, his cultural context, and the early church. Pastor
Jeremy will incorporate his pictures and learnings into the “To Boldly
Go” worship series and will also do a travel slideshow presentation
upon return.

Easter series: To Boldly Go
through June 2, 2019 Christ is risen! The Resurrection sparked a new movement of spreading good news of a living God. As we celebrate, we will look for the living God, who invites us to boldly go where no church has gone before! April 28 - Autism Awareness Sunday John 20:19-31 Thomas. The twin. Doubting Thomas. He experienced skepticism. He felt unpleasant feelings. He was uncertain. The beauty of Thomas' story is not that Thomas overcame his doubts, but that Jesus met him in the midst of them. Jesus accepted Thomas just as he was. How about us? How well do we, as a church, accept unpleasant feelings, unexpected behaviors, people who are out of the norm? How well do we welcome people just as they are? May 5 - Confirmation Sunday - Number One Acts 9.1-20 Captain Jean Luc Picard, of Star Trek fame, wouldn’t be much without his ‘Number One’, his second-in-command Will Riker. Nor Kirk without Spock. Who’s your Number One? And how do they help you along your Christian journey? Today we celebrate Confirmation, and those who helped and will help them along their journeys. May 12 - Mother’s Day/Spring Choir Concert On Sunday May 12th, come for the NR UMC Choir's Festival of Music. We will sing some of our favor-ite anthems and read the scriptures that inspired them. We will also introduce a new anthem taken from a very favorite congregational hymn. May 19 - Prime Directive Acts 11.1-18 In Acts, Peter has a vision of a sheet coming down with ‘unclean’ animals and he is told he can eat them, which is meant to represent a church open to all. One could say that United Methodism’s Prime Directive has become “Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors.” In what ways do we live this Prime Directive, and in what ways can the church and communion table be further open? May 26 - New Frontier Acts 16.9-15 In Acts, Paul sees a vision of a man pleading with him to come to a new place and help them. Today we’ll talk about new frontiers, those places God calls us out of our comfort zones to minister with new people. This Sunday, we’ll have Brunch Church at The Greaton Room at Champs. (see pg. 4) June 22 - Ascension Sunday - Beam Me Up? Acts 1.1-11 and Luke 24.44-53 Jesus may get beamed up on Ascension Sunday, but we are being called to do more than stare at him going up into heaven. We are being called to share God’s love in the power of the Holy Spirit.

A very special thank you to three men who helped make our Lenten potluck dinners run so very smoothly. Dale Fleming decorated and set the tables for each potluck. He also made the coffee and saw that the dishes were placed on the table. Andrew and Fred Austin were in charge of the cleaning up the kitchen and the dishwasher. I know there were other people who chipped in to help and a big thank you to you too. -Jill Thomas, Chairperson, Worship Design Team
UM Women News -New Richmond UMW gave $150 toward the Day of Giving Challenge at the 150th Anniversary of the beginning of the organization of United Methodist Women on March 23, 1869. In the past, women came together to work for women, children and youth around the world and within their own communities. We now help prepare for the future. Our North West District held a celebration at Lake Street UMC March 23. Money will go to Legacy Endowment Fund, a permanently invested endowment, the earnings of which will strengthen our organization so that future giving can even more directly address injustice and alleviate suffering of women and children in the world. -Thanks to all who supported the spring Rummage Sale, especially Karen Bohl, chairperson and those who sorted and help clean up on Saturday. We raised a total of $732! Next one will be in November! -Beefburger public luncheon was well attended and enjoyed! Thanks to all who brought food, attended, delivered meals, and helped with clean up. Proceeds go toward the annual pledge to mission program support. -Executive Board May 7 at 1:00pm -Unit meeting May 10 at 9:30am Pastor Jeremy has the program and Kay Peterson is hostess. -Kwik Trip has informed us they are no longer involved in the reward program supporting Harbor House. The last labels and caps were sent in March 31. Milk bags no longer have the 5 cent symbol on the top. Thank you to the faithful members who supported this program for many years.
Records & History The women’s groups’ historical data is extensive. Included in the collection are minute books dating from the 1920’s, program books from Mother-Daughter,( later Mother Child) dinners usually held around Mothers’ Day in May, bank deposit bags, mission recognition certificates, birthday apron with 12 pockets for money donations, and UMW program books. In a separate file are many photographs of members and projects. Some of these items were displayed at the 150th Celebration of UMW held at Lake Street Methodist Church March 23. We will hear more about this rich history October 13 when Terry Giles from Grantsburg UMC will be the featured speaker.

Trustee’s
updates
Have you checked out the Nursery lately? It’s a real HOOT! The Trustees would like to thank our congregation for their generous donations– both of time and money, toward nursery updates. Once we had the donations, volunteers came forward and did an awesome job to freshen up the space, making it even more inviting to our little ones. Special thanks to those who answered the challenge– Don Amundson, Dave & Sally Berkholder, Heather Boorman and Nancy Karastes.
The church is a BUSY place! Over the past few months, the Trustees have been working on a bunch of items. Some of these have been done and some are coming up in the next few months.
-need for a new refrigerator in the kitchen (one of the two is on it’s last leg) -plans to have an insurance audit on the church (to make sure our coverage is adequate) -new hand-held microphones for the sanctuary -organizing an All-Church Clean-Up Day on Saturday, May 4 (sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board) -the coffee brewing station in the kitchen has been recalibrated (so it doesn’t overflow, hopefully) -we added a filter to the dishwasher to decrease sediment and improve function -our trash/recycling provider will change to Olson Sanitation in May -our lawn care/snow removal will change to Smith’s Snow & Lawn Care in May -we replaced the hot water heater (the old one was from 1978!) -ice dam/roof concerns during winter months– we’re working on prevention ideas -soffit repair and paint touch-ups due to ice dam damage will be done this summer -we have plans to have an Energy Audit performed -approved the use of the Loft for a Sensory Sanctuary with supervision (until 12/31/19) -talks about transportation to & from worship services for CIP inmates -potential projects that CIP inmates could help with around the church
If you have any questions, please feel free to talk with any of our Trustees– Pegi Fleming, Steve Hornickle, Bill Komula, Mary Mayry or Sharon Vlasak. Thank you!
Thank You! A BIG Thanks to Don Amundson and Dave Berkholder for braving the weather and climbing onto the roof on the east side of the church to remove the ice dams that were leaking in and creating damage inside the church. Thanks to Mary Mayry for supervising.

Last year, we had 8 youth attend United Methodist summer
camps. Some were members of the church and a few weren’t a
part of a church community. Scholarships given from this church
for those campers totaled $1,660. Thank you for that support in
2018! Again this year, we invite your help to recruit campers and
give to the camp scholarship fund so all that want to go can.
If you have questions about attending a camp or scholarship information, please talk with
Pastor Jeremy or Kristi in the office or look online at: www.WIUMCamps.org
Speaking in Tongues on Pentecost! Do you speak another language? Or read one reasonably well? The Worship
Committee is looking for people who would like to read the story of Pentecost in
different languages on Pentecost Sunday, June 9, 2019. You will read in your
language at the same time as others, creating a cacophony of sound like
that first Pentecost experience, which means you won’t even have to be
perfect! Please contact Pastor Jeremy ([email protected]) or call
the church office if you would like to participate.

NR United Methodist Church Service Directory
“I am amazed at the way some disciples selflessly serve others and
I want to make a difference as well.” Real Discipleship Survey
The concept of a NR UMC Service Directory was initiated in 2015. The idea is to connect people within our congregation that may need help with certain tasks, with a volunteer in the church that would be willing to help them.
