From Lipa, Batangas

Sister of Mariano Katigbak, afriend of Rizal.

Close friend of Olimpia.

The Katigbak family were afriend ofRizals grandmother.

Studying at La Concordia

College.

She was 14 years old when

Rizal get to know her.

She was short, with eyes that

were eloquent and ardent at

times and languid at others,rosy-cheeked, with an

enchanting and provocativesmile that revealed very

beautiful teeth, and the air of a

sylph; her entire self diffused a

mysterious charm.

Segunda and Pepe

Rizal first met him in Manila when he was

visiting his maternal grandmother. When he first saw Segunda, he fell in love

with her.

At the request of his grandmother, he made asketch of Segunda.

From time to time, she looked at me, and Iblushed. Jose Rizal

They got to know each other intimatelywhenever Rizal visited Segunda in LaConcordia College.

Rizal, despite his artistic and intellectual skills,timidly failed to propose to her.

Also, their romance was a little too late asSegunda was already engaged to Mariano Luz.

Dec. 1877

It was the last time to talked to each other.

Rizal promised to see Segunda in Calamba, where thesteamer boat that will take her to Laguna, will pass bythe next day.

When the steamer stopped at Bian instead ofCalamba, Rizal quickly mounted his horse, rodenorth, and waited for her to passed by.

He did saw Segunda and she waved back with

her handkerchief. Rizal simply tipped his hatas a sign of respect.

Some of the people accompanying Segundaasked him to join them, Rizal politely

declined.

He went home, dazed and heartbroken.

All he can do is to cherish those sweet and

nostalgic moments of Segunda, his first andlost love.

Daughter of Juan andSanday Valenzuela.

Rizal first met her when hewas studying at UST.

Her family were a next-

door neighbour of Doa

Concha Leyva, where Rizalwas residing.

Pepe and Orang

Rizal was a frequent guest of the Valenzuelafamily.

He always impressed his guests with magic tricks

especially with cards. Rizal, with his knowledge of chemistry, will

always write to Orang using invisible ink.

Rizal will write using saline solution (water and

salt) and Orang will heat it over a lamp or candle.

Like with Segunda, he failed to propose to

Orang.

Pepe and Taimis

Their romance, started as a good friendship,blossomed into a romance.

Leonor once nursed the wounds of Rizal aftera brawl.

Leonor, wanting to keep their relationshipsecret, will always sign her letter as Taimis.

Her parents, upon knowing their relationship,

did not object to it. Leonor will be Rizals greatest love, as well as

his greatest heartbreak.

Rizals First Romances

Rizal, despite his capabilities and a debonair,was a shy lover. He cannot expressed his love ina right way.

Rizals romances shows that he is a human onethat love and suffer the consequences of love.

Despite his failures in love, he always regardedthem with upmost respect and will alwayscherish the good times of his romance.

Rizal epitomized what a gentleman should be respectful, class, and sophistication.
