For the last six years, St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (710 West Marion St. in Joliet) has hosted an annual on the first Saturday of March. This year, the Mass & Dinner takes

place on Saturday, March 5th from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. We will be serving a traditional Corned Beef dinner for $12 and an Irish Lamb Stew for $11 (both served with Irish Soda Bread and Dessert). Corned Beef Sandwiches (with Potato Salad or Chips and Dessert) costs $8 and there will be Pasta and Dessert for the Kids for $5. Families can buy a dinner for four for $20. Beverages will be served a la carte. We will be offering entertainment throughout the evening including the Keigher Irish dancers and Bagpipe Music as well! Confessions will be heard all day from 8:00 a.m. until Midnight. The purpose of this event is NOT to make money (although the thousand or so dollars we make comes in handy!). Rather, we want to bring the community together to celebrate our Irish Heritage, have a nice meal, and celebrate in this case our 178 year history of the parish. Contact the Rectory at (815) 727-4746 for more information.

, beginning at 8:00 a.m. until Midnight. Confes-sions will be heard in conjunction with our and our

, continuing through the night. To learn more, go to www.stpatsjoliet.com. As part of our Year of Mercy Commemoration, this has been a wonderful experience, both for me and the parish com-munity. This Lent, I am stopping at midnight (or until all confessions are heard) because I am celebrat-ing all three Masses on March 6th and the students from our Religious Education Program have their confessions heard between the three Masses celebrated that day. I need to have a little energy to get through the weekend, so come support your faith life and the parish community as well. In these experi-ences, folks from around the diocese have made the trip to support the cause - you are most welcome to join us!

As we have discussed these last few weeks, please consider the opportunity to For $1,000, we can convert each classroom to the LED variety, thus saving us

costs on replacing the lights as frequently and saving anywhere from 30-60% on our electric bill! Through the kindness of an anonymous donor, we have already raised the $10,000 for the church. Now we are seeking $1,000 to change the lights in each classroom of our church building and $5,000 for the gym lights (we are hoping Catholic Charities can help us with the gym). For more information, please contact the office at (815) 727-4746 for more information.

Finally, we have not discussed for awhile at the parish. Do you realize you can help sup-port our parish or donate your Sunday contribu-tions from the privacy of your home without the use of envelope? Please call the office or go online at our website for more information.

God Bless.

On behalf of our nine hundred family com-munity, we welcome you to the oldest parish in the Joliet Diocese and second oldest parish in Northern Illinois! As one of our new family members, we invite you to register at St. Patrick’s Church, which invests you into the life of the Parish family. In the process, you will be able to receive through email or postal correspondence all the activities that our parish has to offer. Being a registered pa-rishioner makes things much easier when it is time for infant baptism, registration for our religious education, weddings, when asked to be a baptismal or confirma-tion sponsor and even funerals. You may obtain a registration form in the rectory, in the back of church, at our web-site at or by filling out the information below. We would be more than happy to mail you the registra-tion form for the parish. Thank you and welcome to the Saint Patrick’s Catholic community!

Reflection on The Year of Mercy...

Extend your mercy towards oth-ers, so that there can be no one in need whom you meet without helping. For what hope is there for us if God should withdraw His Mercy from us? - Saint Vincent de Paul Fr. Pete hears confessions every Wednesday at 3:00 and on Saturdays at 3:15 p.m.

At the 4:00 Saturday Night Mass this weekend, a group of men and women preparing for the sacraments at the Easter Vigil take part in the Mass of the First Scrutiny, a special rite of prayer and conversion that usually takes place during the Third Sunday of Lent. The

emphasis of our first scrutiny will focus on the importance of the Nicene Creed and the challeng-es this prayer offers. Please continue to pray for our elect as they walk through the final stages of their sacramental preparation.

As is customary at St. Pat-rick’s Catholic Church, we have asked our com-munity during the Season of Lent to pray even more for the men and women of our community who will receive the initiation sacraments at the Easter Vigil. As a sign of support from our com-munity, we ask that you write a note of support for these elect and drop them off the in display located in the Narthex during the Fourth and Fifth Sunday of Lent. Thanks for helping us sup-port those who wish to enter the faith life of the Church at Easter.
