Does God command faith apart from evidence, or faith upon evidence? Said another way, what is the role of the senses and reason in Christian faith? The following is an index of verses helpful for understanding the relation between reason and faith. I have included instances of miracles throughout Scriptures as well as passages that deal with the question, “Why do people come to belief?” I assembled this resource to show that Scripture does not merely attest to its own truth. It attests to events—events sufficient to show that God is who he claims to be. As an advocate of evidentialism, I believe there are important errors in the presuppositional approach to apologetics and philosophy. Presuppositionalism derogates man’s attempt to use his “autonomous human reason” to ask questions about whether the claims of Christianity are true. I consider the following passages from Scripture to be a sufficient rebuttal of the presuppositional system. These passages demonstrate a pattern: people saw the evidence of God, heard his message, and believed it. The verses are presented sequentially. They give a compelling picture of the relation of reason and faith. Besides serving as an index for Christian writers, this document could also be used in personal devotions or in preparation for sermons or teaching.

GENESIS
CHAPTER 3
9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
CHAPTER 7
1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
CHAPTER 15
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down, and it was dark, behold a smoking
furnace, and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
CHAPTER 26 2 And the LORD appeared unto him, and said, Go not down into Egypt; dwell in the land which I
shall tell thee of:
CHAPTER 28 12 And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven:
and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it. 13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father,
and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;
CHAPTER 32
1 And Jacob went on his way, and the angels of God met him. 24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

EXODUS
CHAPTER 3 4 And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of
the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. 5 And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon
thou standest is holy ground.
CHAPTER 4 17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.
CHAPTER 7
20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood.
CHAPTER 13
8 And thou shalt shew thy son in that day, saying, This is done because of that which the LORD
did unto me when I came forth out of Egypt. 9 And it shall be for a sign unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between thine eyes,
that the LORD'S law may be in thy mouth: for with a strong hand hath the LORD brought thee out of Egypt.
10 Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance in his season from year to year. 11 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he sware
unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee, 12 That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that
cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD'S. 13 And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it,
then thou shalt break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem. 14 And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt
say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage:
15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.
16 And it shall be for a token upon thine hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes: for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.
17 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt:
CHAPTER 14

31 And Israel saw that great work which the LORD did upon the Egyptians: and the people feared the LORD, and believed the LORD, and his servant Moses.

CHAPTER 16 30 But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with
all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD.
31 And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them:
32 And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.
33 They, and all that appertained to them, went down alive into the pit, and the earth closed upon them: and they perished from among the congregation.

THE FIFTH BOOK OF MOSES, CALLED
DEUTERONOMY
CHAPTER 4 36 Out of heaven he made thee to hear his voice, that he might instruct thee: and upon earth he
shewed thee his great fire; and thou heardest his words out of the midst of the fire. 37 And because he loved thy fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought thee
out in his sight with his mighty power out of Egypt; 38 To drive out nations from before thee greater and mightier than thou art, to bring thee in, to
give thee their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.
CHAPTER 6 20 And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the
statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you? 21 Then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD
brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand: 22 And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and
upon all his household, before our eyes: 23 And he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he
sware unto our fathers. 24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our
good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day. 25 And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe to do all these commandments before the
LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

CHAPTER 3 17 And the priests that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the
midst of Jordan, and all the Israelites passed over on dry ground, until all the people were passed clean over Jordan.
CHAPTER 4
20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of Jordan, did Joshua pitch in Gilgal. 21 And he spake unto the children of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in
time to come, saying, What mean these stones? 22 Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. 23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until ye were passed
over, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over:
24 That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty: that ye might fear the LORD your God for ever.
CHAPTER 6
20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the
people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.
CHAPTER 10
12 Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before
the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
13 And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.

the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.

the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

CHAPTER 5 2 When the Philistines took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by
Dagon. 3 And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face
to the earth before the ark of the LORD. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again. 4 And when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to
the ground before the ark of the LORD; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

CHAPTER 3 5 In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall
give thee.
CHAPTER 8 10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the
house of the LORD, 11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD
had filled the house of the LORD. 12 Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.
CHAPTER 18 36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet
came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.
37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.
CHAPTER 20
13 And, behold, there came a prophet unto Ahab king of Israel, saying, Thus saith the LORD,
Hast thou seen all this great multitude? behold, I will deliver it into thine hand this day; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

CHAPTER 1 10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come
down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
CHAPTER 13
21 And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band of men; and
they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and when the man was let down, and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.
CHAPTER 19
29 And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such things as grow of themselves,
and in the second year that which springeth of the same; and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruits thereof.
30 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall yet again take root downward, and bear fruit upward.

CHAPTER 16 8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. 9 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works. 10 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the LORD. 11 Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually. 12 Remember his marvellous works that he hath done, his wonders, and the judgments of his
mouth; 13 O ye seed of Israel his servant, ye children of Jacob, his chosen ones.
CHAPTER 17
1 Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I
dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains. 2 Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee. 3 And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying, 4 Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell
in: 5 For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have
gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another. 21 And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem to be his
own people, to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness, by driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt?
CHAPTER 21
16 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the
heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.
17 And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done evil indeed; but as for these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, O LORD my God, be on me, and on my father's house; but not on thy people, that they should be plagued.
26 And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace
offerings, and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt offering.
CHAPTER 28
19 All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all
the works of this pattern.

THE SECOND BOOK OF THE

CHAPTER 5 13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard
in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the LORD;
14 So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
CHAPTER 7
1 Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and
consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house. 2 And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had
filled the LORD'S house.
CHAPTER 20 14 Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of
Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;
15 And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not your's, but God's.
16 To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
CHAPTER 26
19 Then Uzziah was wroth, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense: and while he was wroth
with the priests, the leprosy even rose up in his forehead before the priests in the house of the LORD, from beside the incense altar.
20 And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because the LORD had smitten him.
CHAPTER 32
19 And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth,
which were the work of the hands of man. 20 And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and
cried to heaven. 21 And the LORD sent an angel, which cut off all the mighty men of valour, and the leaders and

that thou wouldest send me unto Judah, unto the city of my fathers' sepulchres, that I may build it. 6 And the king said unto me, (the queen also sitting by him,) For how long shall thy journey be?

CHAPTER 6 1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up,
and his train filled the temple. CHAPTER 7
10 Moreover the LORD spake again unto Ahaz, saying, 11 Ask thee a sign of the LORD thy God; ask it either in the depth, or in the height above. 12 But Ahaz said, I will not ask, neither will I tempt the LORD. 13 And he said, Hear ye now, O house of David; Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will
ye weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a
son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
CHAPTER 9
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
CHAPTER 37
36 Then the angel of the LORD went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred
and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.
CHAPTER 38 7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the LORD, that the LORD will do this thing that he hath
spoken; 8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of
Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.
CHAPTER 41 23 Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good,
or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
CHAPTER 42 9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring
forth I tell you of them.

CHAPTER 44
13 The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and
he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
21 Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my
servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. 22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto
me; for I have redeemed thee.
CHAPTER 45 1 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue
nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;
2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:
3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.
4 For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:
6 That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the LORD, and there is none else.
CHAPTER 48
3 I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and
I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass.

THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET
JEREMIAH
CHAPTER 1 4 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I
sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. 6 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child. 7 But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee,
and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. 8 Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD. 9 Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me,
Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
CHAPTER 5 15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty
nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying, 21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not;
which have ears, and hear not:
CHAPTER 25 11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve
the king of Babylon seventy years. 12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of
Babylon, and that nation, saith the LORD, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.
CHAPTER 27
21 Yea, thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the
house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah and of Jerusalem;
CHAPTER 28 9 The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then
shall the prophet be known, that the LORD hath truly sent him.
CHAPTER 52 3 For through the anger of the LORD it came to pass in Jerusalem and Judah, till he had cast
them out from his presence, that Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon.
JEREMIAH
30
4 And it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and pitched against it, and built forts against it round about.
5 So the city was besieged unto the eleventh year of king Zedekiah. 6 And in the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was sore in the city, so that
there was no bread for the people of the land. 7 Then the city was broken up, and all the men of war fled, and went forth out of the city by night
by the way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king's garden; (now the Chaldeans were by the city round about:) and they went by the way of the plain.
8 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.
9 Then they took the king, and carried him up unto the king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath; where he gave judgment upon him.
10 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes: he slew also all the princes of Judah in Riblah.
11 Then he put out the eyes of Zedekiah; and the king of Babylon bound him in chains, and carried him to Babylon, and put him in prison till the day of his death.

CHAPTER 2 17 The LORD hath done that which he had devised; he hath fulfilled his word that he had

EZEKIEL
CHAPTER 1
1 Now it came to pass in the thirtieth year, in the fourth month, in the fifth day of the month, as I was among the captives by the river of Chebar, that the heavens were opened, and I saw visions of God.
2 In the fifth day of the month, which was the fifth year of king Jehoiachin's captivity, 3 The word of the LORD came expressly unto Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of
the Chaldeans by the river Chebar; and the hand of the LORD was there upon him. 4 And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire
infolding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire.
5 Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man.
CHAPTER 17
20 And I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to
Babylon, and will plead with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me. 21 And all his fugitives with all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be
scattered toward all winds: and ye shall know that I the LORD have spoken it.
CHAPTER 26 4 And they shall destroy the walls of Tyrus, and break down her towers: I will also scrape her
dust from her, and make her like the top of a rock. 5 It shall be a place for the spreading of nets in the midst of the sea: for I have spoken it, saith the
Lord GOD: and it shall become a spoil to the nations. 14 And I will make thee like the top of a rock: thou shalt be a place to spread nets upon; thou
shalt be built no more: for I the LORD have spoken it, saith the Lord GOD. 21 I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou
never be found again, saith the Lord GOD.
CHAPTER 27 32 And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying,
What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea? 33 When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many people; thou didst enrich the
kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise.

THE BOOK OF
DANIEL
CHAPTER 2 19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of
heaven. 28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king
Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
29 As for thee, O king, thy thoughts came into thy mind upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter: and he that revealeth secrets maketh known to thee what shall come to pass.
30 But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but for their sakes that shall make known the interpretation to the king, and that thou mightest know the thoughts of thy heart.
CHAPTER 3
24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto
his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.
25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
CHAPTER 4
36 At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour
and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me.
CHAPTER 5
22 And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thine heart, though thou knewest all this; 23 But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his
house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:
24 Then was the part of the hand sent from him; and this writing was written. 25 And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 26 This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished
it. 27 TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. 28 PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
CHAPTER 9 2 In the first year of his reign I Daniel understood by books the number of the years, whereof the
DANIEL

word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet, that he would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem.
3 And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:
20 And whiles I was speaking, and praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people
Israel, and presenting my supplication before the LORD my God for the holy mountain of my God; 21 Yea, whiles I was speaking in prayer, even the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at
the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, touched me about the time of the evening oblation. 22 And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, O Daniel, I am now come forth to give
thee skill and understanding. 23 At the beginning of thy supplications the commandment came forth, and I am come to shew
thee; for thou art greatly beloved: therefore understand the matter, and consider the vision.
CHAPTER 11
1 Also I in the first year of Darius the Mede, even I, stood to confirm and to strengthen him. 2 And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and
the fourth shall be far richer than they all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.
3 And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.
4 And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
SAINT MATTHEW
CHAPTER 1 22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet,
saying, 23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name
Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
CHAPTER 4 23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of
the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
CHAPTER 16 2 He answered and said unto them, When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky
is red. 3 And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and lowring. O ye
hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?
CHAPTER 28 11 Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto
the chief priests all the things that were done. 12 And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money
unto the soldiers, 13 Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept. 14 And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. 15 So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported
among the Jews until this day. 16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed
them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
SAINT MARK
CHAPTER 2 10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the
sick of the palsy,) 11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house.
CHAPTER 6 52 For they considered not the miracle of the loaves: for their heart was hardened.
CHAPTER 8 11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from
heaven, tempting him. 12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily
I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.
CHAPTER 16 14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their
unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they
shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they
shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. 19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the
right hand of God. 20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming
the word with signs following. Amen.

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
SAINT LUKE
CHAPTER 1
1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed. 26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named
Nazareth, 27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's
name was Mary. 28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with
thee: blessed art thou among women. 29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of
salutation this should be. 30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. 31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name
JESUS. 32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto
him the throne of his father David: 33 And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. 34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the
power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
36 And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.
37 For with God nothing shall be impossible. 38 And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And
the angel departed from her.
CHAPTER 5 24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto
the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
CHAPTER 6 8 But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and
stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed
them all.

CHAPTER 7
22 Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen
and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.
30 But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not
baptized of him.
CHAPTER 9 1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils,
and to cure diseases. 2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. 44 Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the
hands of men.
CHAPTER 10 9 And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto
you.
CHAPTER 11 15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. 16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. 29 And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil
generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet.
CHAPTER 12 54 And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say,
There cometh a shower; and so it is. 55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass. 56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not
discern this time? 57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?
CHAPTER 16 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded,
though one rose from the dead.
CHAPTER 21 29 And he spake to them a parable; Behold the fig tree, and all the trees; 30 When they now shoot forth, ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at
hand.

CHAPTER 23 47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a
righteous man.
CHAPTER 24 33 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered
together, and them that were with them, 34 Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon. 35 And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking
of bread. 36 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace
be unto you. 37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. 38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? 39 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh
and bones, as ye see me have. 40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet. 41 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any
meat? 42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them.
52
THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO
SAINT JOHN
CHAPTER 1 32 And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it
abode upon him. 33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon
whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. 35 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples; 36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God! 37 And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is
no guile! 48 Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him,
Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. 49 Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of
Israel. 50 Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree,
believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
CHAPTER 3 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher
come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? 11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and
ye receive not our witness.
CHAPTER 4 41 And many more believed because of his own word; 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him
ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world. 47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and
besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death. 48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. 49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die. 50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus
had spoken unto him, and he went his way. 51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. 52 Then enquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him,
Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him. 53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son
JOHN
53
liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.
CHAPTER 5 36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to
finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
CHAPTER 6 19 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on
the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. 20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. 26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw
the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he
hath sent.
CHAPTER 7 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I
speak of myself. 31 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more
miracles than these which this man hath done? 48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
CHAPTER 8 43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. 44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from
the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. 46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?
CHAPTER 9 25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that,
whereas I was blind, now I see. 26 Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes? 27 He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it
again? will ye also be his disciples? 30 The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not
from whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes. 31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth
his will, him he heareth. 32 Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born
blind.
JOHN
54
33 If this man were not of God, he could do nothing. 35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost
thou believe on the Son of God? 36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? 37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. 38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
CHAPTER 10 2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 32 Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of
those works do ye stone me? 37 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that
the Father is in me, and I in him. 41 And many resorted unto him, and said, John did no miracle: but all things that John spake of
this man were true. 42 And many believed on him there.
CHAPTER 11 15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let
us go unto him. 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his
eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. 42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it,
that they may believe that thou hast sent me. 43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. 47 Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this
man doeth many miracles.
CHAPTER 12 10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; 11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus. 17 The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised
him from the dead, bare record. 18 For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. 28 Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified
it, and will glorify it again. 29 The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel
spake to him. 30 Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes.
JOHN
55
37 But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: 38 That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath
believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? 41 These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.
CHAPTER 13 19 Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he. 34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye
also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
CHAPTER 14 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me,
Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works'
sake. 29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might
believe.
CHAPTER 15 24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but
now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. 25 But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated
me without a cause. 26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit
of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.
CHAPTER 16 28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to
the Father. 29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. 30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee:
by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
CHAPTER 17 25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have
known that thou hast sent me.
CHAPTER 18 37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a
king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness
JOHN
56
unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
CHAPTER 19 35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye
might believe. 36 For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be
broken. 37 And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.
CHAPTER 20 8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and
believed. 20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples
glad, when they saw the Lord. 24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them,
Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they
that have not seen, and yet have believed. 30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in
this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that
believing ye might have life through his name.

THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES
CHAPTER 1
1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given
commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: 3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen
of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be
witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
CHAPTER 2
2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the
house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the
Spirit gave them utterance. 36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus,
whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest
of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus
Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as
the Lord our God shall call. 40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this
untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added
unto them about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of
bread, and in prayers. 43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.
CHAPTER 3 6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of
Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk. 7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones
received strength. 8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and
leaping, and praising God.
ACTS
58
16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
CHAPTER 4
14 And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against
it. 15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among
themselves, 16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by
them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. 17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak
henceforth to no man in this name. 18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to
hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. 29 And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness
they may speak thy word, 30 By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of
thy holy child Jesus.
CHAPTER 5 12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people;
(and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) 15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches,
that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. 16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks,
and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. 32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given
to them that obey him. 38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this
work be of men, it will come to nought: 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
CHAPTER 6 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.
CHAPTER 9
22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus,
proving that this is very Christ. 34 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed.
And he arose immediately.
ACTS
59
35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord. 41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows,
presented her alive. 42 And it was known throughout all Joppa; and many believed in the Lord.
CHAPTER 10 37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from
Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about
doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem;
whom they slew and hanged on a tree: 40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; 41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and
drink with him after he rose from the dead. 42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was
ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. 43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall
receive remission of sins. 44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
CHAPTER 13 12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of
the Lord.
CHAPTER 14 3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the
word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. 27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God
had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles.
CHAPTER 16 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he
and all his, straightway. 34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced,
believing in God with all his house.
CHAPTER 17 2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them
out of the scriptures, 3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and
that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.
ACTS

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all
readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and
hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be
not far from every one of us: 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to
repent: 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that
man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
CHAPTER 18
4 And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks. 19 And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and
reasoned with the Jews. 27 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to
receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace: 28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus
was Christ.
CHAPTER 19 11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul: 12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases
departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.
CHAPTER 20 12 And they brought the young man alive, and were not a little comforted.
CHAPTER 24 25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and
answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.
CHAPTER 26 8 Why should it be thought a thing incredible with you, that God should raise the dead? 25 But he said, I am not mad, most noble Festus; but speak forth the words of truth and
soberness. 26 For the king knoweth of these things, before whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that
none of these things are hidden from him; for this thing was not done in a corner. 27 King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest. 28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

CHAPTER 28
5 And he shook off the beast into the fire, and felt no harm. 6 Howbeit they looked when he should have swollen, or fallen down dead suddenly: but after
they had looked a great while, and saw no harm come to him, they changed their minds, and said that he was a god.
23 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom
he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening.

THE EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE
ROMANS
CHAPTER 1 18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of
men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto
them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being
understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a
reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
CHAPTER 2 14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law,
these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: 15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness,
and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
CHAPTER 3 1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? 2 Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that
doeth good, no, not one.
CHAPTER 4 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory
to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.
CHAPTER 11 33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his
judgments, and his ways past finding out!

THE FIRST EPISTLE OF PAUL THE APOSTLE TO THE
CORINTHIANS
CHAPTER 8 1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge
puffeth up, but charity edifieth. 2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know. 3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him. 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we
know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
CHAPTER 14 20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in
understanding be men.
CHAPTER 15 1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye
have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have
believed in vain. 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins
according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain
unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

CHAPTER 5 11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.
CHAPTER 11 1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good report. 3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things
which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

CHAPTER 1 16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power
and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him
from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. 18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount. 21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they
were moved by the Holy Ghost.

THE REVELATION OF SAINT JOHN THE DIVINE
CHAPTER 1
1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book,
and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
