Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come,

lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Thine is the kingdom

and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Scripture Reading: Romans 12: 9-21

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one

another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but

keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in

affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice

hospitality.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who

rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be

proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of

everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with

everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath,

for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord. On the contrary:

“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;

if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.

In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Sermon Reading: Psalm 26

Vindicate me, LORD,

for I have led a blameless life;

I have trusted in the LORD

and have not faltered.

Test me, LORD, and try me,

examine my heart and my mind;

for I have always been mindful of your unfailing love

and have lived in reliance on your faithfulness.

I do not sit with the deceitful,

nor do I associate with hypocrites.

I abhor the assembly of evildoers

and refuse to sit with the wicked.

I wash my hands in innocence,

and go about your altar, LORD,

proclaiming aloud your praise

and telling of all your wonderful deeds.

LORD, I love the house where you live,

the place where your glory dwells.

Do not take away my soul along with sinners,

my life with those who are bloodthirsty,

in whose hands are wicked schemes,

whose right hands are full of bribes.

I lead a blameless life;

deliver me and be merciful to me.

My feet stand on level ground;

in the great congregation I will praise the LORD.

VIRTUAL BOOK STUDIES VIA ZOOM

Please contact the church office to sign up and to order books.

Experiencing God, led by Tom Coverdale. As the title suggests, the focus of the time together

will not be regarding information about God, but much more an exchange of experiences and

encouragements regarding our individual and corporate journeys in relationship with God.

In the mid 1990’s, Tracy and I were a part of a small group who read this book, and were

inspired and challenged by Blackaby’s insights. When I look back on my own spiritual journey

of five decades, I look at this book (and that group) as one of the most significant times in

encouraging me to pursue a relationship with God that extended beyond merely what I believed

about God. This study was a stepping into knowing Him, and sharing that experience with

fellow sojourners. This weekly Sunday evening virtual book study will begin on

September 13, 6:00-7:00 pm.

Devotional Classics: Selected Readings for Individuals and Groups, led by Pastor Charles

Glidewell. This devotional book contains writings that reflect what I’ll call six lenses of

Christianity: the contemplative tradition, the holiness tradition, the charismatic tradition, the

social justice tradition, the evangelical tradition, and the incarnational tradition. Each

devotional is paired with a Bible reading. Join us as we think about and discuss the biblical

ideas of various Christian saints including, C.S. Lewis, Henri Nouwen, John Calvin, Ignatius of

Loyola, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Watchman Nee, G.K. Chesterton, Dag Hammarskjold, and several

others. We will meet via Zoom at 10:00 on Wednesday mornings starting September 2.

Cold-Case Christianity: A Homicide Detective Investigates the Claims of the Gospels, led by

Claire Ketteler. My friends knew me as an angry atheist, a skeptic who thoughtfully dissected

Christians and the Christian worldview, yet I suddenly found myself reading the gospels to hear

what Jesus had to say. Something about the gospels caught my attention, more as an

investigator than as someone interested in the ancient philosophy of an imaginary sage. So

writes the author, and now Christian, of Cold-Case Christianity, J. Warner Wallace. This really

engaging book serves as a guide for thinking through important matters like Resisting the

Influence of Dangerous Presuppositions, Evaluating the Reliability of Witnesses, and the

question, Were the Gospel Writers Motivated to Lie About Their Testimony?. Day & Time of

this virtual class to be determined.
