Hope everyone has had enough rain for a while.

The roads at the range have been scraped and gravel put down.

On 8/10/14 I took my own advice and loaded up the grand kids and my son and went to the range. As you

know it rained all day but we had a great time on A range. We got wet setting targets but stayed dry under

the shelter. We shot for several hours and shot .22 pistols to my 500 S&W. The little ones didn't

shoot the 500 but shot 38's and down. This is the best way to spend a rainy day.

If you want something to do on a rainy day, go out and shoot! Have fun! This is your range! Use it and take

care of it and you will see the benefits it has.

Until next time take your friends, kids, grand kids, nieces, nephews, and wives

out to shoot. You will be amazed how much fun you can have on a rainy day.

Keep your powder dry and stay cool.

John (Bill) Cash.

TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES

Utah Concealed Carry Firearm Permit Training

Virginia and 35 other states recognize the Utah Concealed Firearm Permit. That widespread recognition makes it good to have as an interstate traveler. Utah permit holders may legally carry while driving through many contiguous states. Those who plan on carrying out of state may find it very useful to have this as a second permit. The 4-hour class required to apply for this permit will be offered at the RRRC clubhouse. Interested applicants should already hold a Virginia Concealed Carry Permit and have completed NRA First Steps Pistol or an equiva-lent pistol class. All necessary materials will be furnished. Club members and non-members are welcome. Cost is $55.00. The course can be taken at 2:00 pm on September 7, September 28, October 18, November 16, or December 14. Please contact Charles Woolwine at [email protected] for details.

Work Hours

Every year we are faced with members who claim that work hours were not made available to them. For this reason,

we will be posting assignments as they become available throughout the year to ensure that all members are aware of

these opportunities.

ROAD AND RANGE MONITORS

This program was a huge hit with the general membership, match directors, as well as our neighbors. Because of this,

we will be continuing to monitor the roads and ranges for many of our 2014 matches. I would like to add that virtually

100% of the members that participated in this program commented that it was a quite enjoyable way to get in their

work hours. I urge you to please consider signing up so we can keep this program running.

PHOTOGRAPHERS The Board of Directors is looking for photographers to take photos of the various matches & events. Photographs should

be digital and in_JPEG format. If your photos are accepted, you will be given work hour credit. Contact a Board Member

for more information.

Please contact me for further information regarding any of the listed positions,

or to discuss duties in further detail. Assignments will be filled on a first come,

first serve basis.

CURRENT AVAILABLE WORK HOURS FOR MEMBERS

IDPA August’s classifier was the second rain-soaked match of the year, and has since become known as “Puddle Duck II.” While

the rain was not quite as bad as it was in January, it didn’t provide a break for any of the 23 shooters that showed-up to get

classified. Even though the conditions were far from favorable, everyone I spoke with remained in good spirits throughout

this water-logged match.

Special recognition must go to some of the most dedicated safety officers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. If it

was not for their hard work and water resistance this match would not have been possible. Ken Clark, Julia Crump, Joe

Phelps, Joe Stowers, and Josh Stowers, spent over 4 hours standing in the pouring rain running timers and

recording results to ensure that every shooter got through the match safely. Great job you guys!

Our next match will be a fundraiser for the Children’s Miracle Network. This will be a

10-stage match, and includes lunch and prizes. There is also going to be a professional

photographer onsite to take photos of the match. Match fee is $40 and registration will

start at 9am.

Hope to see you at the range, Simon Leray, Match Director, [email protected]

HIGH POWER

The Commonwealth Games went off without a hitch. It was good fun for all. There are still several matches left

for the year, so you have not lost your chance to attend. I believe some people may be intimidated by the appear-

ance of difficulty in this sport, but it's not THAT hard! We all started off the same way.....from zero, just trying to

hit paper somewhere!! We have shooters who come out from all levels, so don't allow lack of skill be an excuse!

I once heard High Power described as "golf with a rifle" and I believe that is a fair analogy. I do believe it actually is

easier than golf, 'cause I know my bullets go much straighter than my drives do!!!!

Registration at 0800, rounds downrange at 0900. Feel free to contact me with questions!

See you on the range. Robert Wilson, 540-875-7554; [email protected]

and sight-in starts at 0800, the first relay starts at 0900. For more
