The F.I.G.O. manual of Human Reproduction

Rosenfield A,

Fathalla MF (eds)

Parthenon Publishing Co., Carnforth, Lanes, U.K.

Set of all three volumes: &49.

The F.I.G.O. manual of Human Reproduction is an initiative of the International Federation of

Gynecology and Obstetrics (F.I.G.O.) in col-

laboration with the Center for Population and

Family Health at Columbia University, New York (U.S.A.) and the World Health Organisation

(WHO). Three volumes are available: Reproductive

Physiology, Family Planning and Reproductive Health, written by various authors.

The text is easy to read and especially meant to

enhance effective learning. There are over 550 illustrations, also available as slides.

These volumes can not be considered as a text- book but can be used as a teaching manual. They

are especially helpful in the developing countries for training purposes.

This referee regrets the fact that pregnancy, labour, puerperium, fetus and newborn are not given the attention these topics deserve. Efficient

prenatal care is helpful in decreasing for instance

maternal and infant mortality. Hence. Perinatol- ogy needs more emphasis, for instance as a fourth

volume.
