Preface

Dear readers,

I am very pleased to present to you the Federal Police’s annual report 2014.

The guiding thread throughout this year 2014 was indisputably the optimisation of the Federal Police, with the aim of better fulfi l-ling their missions while rationalising costs. This is a considerable undertaking, involving all decision-making levels and, in one way or another, all the staff. As a result of the creation of the new judicial districts, the new representatives of the decentralised level (i.e. the coordinating directors and judicial directors) are now in charge of larger territories and better cooperate with each other. They are the necessary link between the Local Police and the central services of the Federal Police. In addition, some central directorates have merged and new ones have been created. As a consequence, the number of representatives has declined.

These changes can be seen throughout the present report, which is now presented in a more modern and dynamic form, with more accessible and clearer essential information. You will fi nd, on the one hand, key fi gures in this brochure and, on the other hand, all the events that marked the past year on the calendar available on the website www.annualreport.federalpolice.be, as well as a video presentation on the Federal Police optimisation.

Once again, I would like to thank you all for the excellent cooperation, the work done, your commitment and professionalism. Thanks to all of you, the Federal Police can serve citizens in a professional way and make our society safer.

I wish you all pleasant reading.

2014 was the year in which the Federal Police started their optimisation process. The aim

was to grow into a modern organisation that better meets the needs of its clients, partners

and the authorities.
