God has saved us, and called us to beholy, not because of anything weourselves have done, but for his own purpose and by his own grace.

This grace had already been granted to us, in Christ Jesus, before the beginningof time, but he has now been revealedby the Appearance of our Saviour Jesus. He has abolished death, and he has proclaimed life and immortality through

the Gospel.

To honor the royalty of the Magi whocame from East to the child of Bethlehem, families were accustomed to choose a king for this feast by casting lots.

In banquets animated by a pure joy, in remembrance of the wedding banquet of Galilee, they would cut cake and one partwould designate the King.

,

Two portions were kept to be offered to the child Jesus and to Mary in the persons of the poor, that they might rejoice also in this day on the triumph of the humble and Poor King. Happy are the families who celebrate this feast of kings with a christian thought.
