Dear Fairview Families, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who showed their support for our mu-sic program at Fairview by attending the Winter concerts over the past two evenings. It was exciting to see our gym filled with smiles, cameras and the beautiful sound of chil-dren singing. It means so much to our students to have the opportunity to show off their talents, and your ongoing support is encouraging to the staff as we continue to partner with you in your child’s education. I’d also like to take a moment to thank Mrs. Loeffler again for her efforts in putting these concerts together and for fostering a love of music among Fairview students. During our last staff meeting this week, teachers spent time thinking about and engag-ing in professional dialogue regarding the Framework for Teaching. The Framework for Teaching is a research-based, comprehensive description of the components of high quality teaching. We use this plan for teacher evaluation; however, more importantly, it is used as a tool to reflect upon our work as educators to ensure we are doing what is best for our students. If you would like more information about the Framework for Teaching, click on this link where you will find a general overview of the different do-mains that are included in the document. Over the past couple months some of our fifth grade students have enjoyed using newly implemented maker spaces in our LRC. A maker space is a unique learning environment that encourages tinkering, play, and open-ended exploration for all. It fosters creativity, design, and problem solving and is often done collaboratively. Schools across the coun-try are creating maker spaces for students to explore and learn in an out-of-the-box
way. We are doing this on a rotating schedule, so not all 5th grade classes have experi-enced it yet, but they will at some point this year if they haven’t had their turn. If it continues to be a beneficial experience for our students, we would look to expand upon it in the future. Be sure to ask your fifth grade student about it to learn more! As this is the final school-based newsletter prior to winter break, I would like to wish all of you a safe and very happy holiday as we close out 2015. Winter break will begin on Monday, December 21st and extend through Friday, January 1st. School will resume once again on Monday, January 4, 2016. Have a wonderful weekend! Sincerely, Dan Ophus Fairview Principal

District 57 will be utilizing an enrollment and registration process for kindergarten

portion beginning on January 4 th, enrollment at Westbrook School beginning January 25
and an online registration in Spring. In order to enroll in kindergarten, children must be
five years old by September 1, 2016. All District 57 kindergarten students attend
Westbrook School, 103 South Busse Road.

Online Pre-Enrollment Intake
Beginning on January 4, 2016, our Online Intake will be accessible to parents on
our District and Westbrook websites at http://www.d57.org/EnrollmentIntake.aspx to
submit basic information and download forms of interest. This required, online
component allows for a more efficient experience during our in-person enrollment
portion.
In-Person Enrollment
For the second portion of this process, parents will need to come to Westbrook
School on January 25, 2016 between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. During this time, parents
will be required to bring in your child’s original birth certificate and proof of residency:
state-issued picture ID, two different current utility bills for two consecutive recent
months and either a copy of a lease, monthly mortgage statement or current tax bill.
Incoming students need not be present.
Spring Registration
Parents who have completed the enrollment process in January and proven
residency will be allowed to take part in the district online registration scheduled for
Spring. This step will give kindergarten parents a chance to review and update information
collected in January, as well as pay necessary fees. Additional information about Spring
Registration will be sent out at a later date.
