Once upon a time, Charlotte was the bedrock of the Industrial South. It all started with a series of textile mills, many of which were built by one man:
D.A. Tompkins, who according to the Atlanta Constitution, “did more for the Industrial South than any other man.” He brought Charlotte into a new
era, and ignited a slew of copycat entrepreneurs throughout the region. He is an unsung hero of progress in American history.
Tompkins Hall pays tribute to the man by embodying his ideals. In an area where Charlotte’s mills once turned over a new leaf for the city, today
Tompkins Hall shows a new side of Charlotte to the outside. It’s not just a theater of cuisine and creativity; it’s a bastion of innovation, sustainability,
and urban renewal.

White Point Paces Partners, LLC, a joint venture between Charlotte-based White Point Partners
and Atlanta-based Paces Properties, is redeveloping a turn-of-the-century textile mill in the Optimist
Park neighborhood between Uptown Charlotte and NoDa. The redevelopment will transform the
mill, rebranded Tompkins Hall, into a food hall complemented by restaurants, retail and creative
office space. The two firms have partnered to bring to Charlotte what Paces has successfully done in
Atlanta at The Stove Works and Krog Street Market – Travel & Leisure’s “One of the World’s Best
New Food Halls"
