Winston-Salem’s majority population falls between ages 22 to 64, with the average household income falling just slightly under the national average.

This town has seen significant growth in population over the past 10 years, making it the 30 th largest metropolitan area in the USA. I chose Winston-Salem because it not only has a large city, but many surrounding suburbs that make up it’s metropolitan area.

Recently, with the merge of Wachovia and Wells Fargo, the company has decided on Winston-Salem to be the home of its Special Services Group, providing more than 100 jobs. Winston-Salem’s Chamber of Commerce also makes a point to support local businesses and assist them in their growth.

For a city whose growth has been continually expanding, maintaining strong average income levels, supporting local businesses, and home to many residents and post-secondary institutions, Winston-Salem seems like the perfect fit for my new pie shop.

Pies With Poise

Brown-Evokes a sense of strength and

reliability.-Brings the mind a feeling of

warmth, comfort, and security.

-Natural and down-to-earth.

Pink-Associated with love and

romance.-Has a calming effect.

The colors I chose were based upon a favorite color combination of mine and by the psychology behind these two colors.

Also, with “poise” having a classy and self-assuring description, I felt the colors and design of the shop’s name complimented it well.

My pie shop’s name will be displayed on a canopy coming out from the store front. The canopy will have a wave-like bottom and sides, with vertical stripes of light cream and white as a background. Underneath the canopy, lights will be fixated to illuminate through the canopy during the evening so the store will always be easy to recognize.

The shop name will also be on the store-front window with simple and classy embellishments around it.

Red Velvet Pie

I chose Red Velvet Pie as my specialty pie first, because I love red velvet cake. Second, I think of velvet as very smooth and luxurious, which is something that fits the name of my pie shop well. Red Velvet is usually a cake, but with my creative designs and pie-making talent, I have created this new specialty pie!

Ingredients-Flour - structure-Vegetable shortening – tenderness &

flavor-Baking soda – leavening agent-Vinegar –moisture-Buttermilk – liquid – moisture; acid -Cocoa - flavor-Red food coloring - color-Vanilla extract - flavor-Salt - flavor

My main advertising choice to start my business out with will be with flyers.I will have them handed out in the local mall, as well as have smaller versions of this flyer in local flower shops with permission of store managers. I will also mail them to small catering businesses in the area.In the front of my store I will have a place where flyers can be picked up as shoppers are walking past my pie shop.
