Young Life - Upper Perk, in East Greenville, doesn’t start with a program - it starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, to build bridges of authentic friendship. These
relationships don’t happen overnight. They take time, patience and consistency. Young Life is a world class organization for students. Our staff and volunteers enter the world of kids, focusing on what matters to them - fun, adventure, friendship and a sense of significance. In doing so, we earn the privilege of talking to them about the Good News of Jesus and his love for them. Kids’ lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them and help them see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose. Chamber Representative: Scott Roth, 267.227.0340, www.upperperkyounglife.org
Kevin Stephenson, Landscape Architect, in Pennsburg is a sole proprie-tor design service providing professionally licensed consultation including graphics, construction documents and project management specifically for out-door place making with landscape structures and water features. This provider has experience with structural and utility improvements including masonry,
carpentry, electrical, plumbing and of course landscaping. Structural and water feature improvements are the majority of the landscape architect’s work portfolio. This expertise is applied to artistically design and monitor construction of a habitable, serviceable and memorable outdoor environment to include these features for you. 19th Annual Golf Outing & Clambake Butter Valley Golf Course | September 19, 2019 | 10:30am-8pm
Come out and join us for the Chamber’s Annual Golf Outing and Clambake on Thursday, September 19. We are looking forward to another great year at Butter Valley Golf Course. Golfers will start their day with a lunch catered by The Valley Café and a beer sampling from The Boston Beer Company/Samuel Adams PA Brewery before heading out on to the green. The golf outing is typically a sold out event and spots are quickly filling up. Please let us know if you would like to play, as we will try to fit you in.
Volunteers are still wanted to help out at this event. We encourage everyone to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to network. All volunteers will receive a complimentary lunch and a goodie bag. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Leanne Engle at 215.679.3336 or email [email protected].
You don’t have to spend all day out on the course to join us at the Clambake beginning at 5pm. Enjoy a delicious meal catered by Sodexo-Perkiomen School and sample beer provided by Weyerbacher Brewing Co., Inc. and wine from Country Creek Winery. You will also be able to take a chance in our Ball Drop, listen music from Celtic Spirit and the Red Hill Band, and participate in our silent auction. So come out and spend a fun evening with your fellow Chamber and community members. To register for the Clambake, visit www.bit.ly/clambake19

6 UPV CHAMBER | JULY - AUGUST
UPVCC - News & Notes
In spite of the gloomy rain, the Community & Commerce Breakfast was a morning full of smiles and uplifting messages as our community came together to pay tribute to what is good in the Upper Perkiomen Valley. As we honored award recipients, we were reminded of the power of doing good and how it multiplies when we engage and inspire each other.
July and August are generally quieter in the office but this summer the PerkUp Education Advisory is starting off with a brisk pace working with the Upper Perkiomen School District on a “Teacher in the Workplace” grant. The grant is designed to provide educators with first-hand exposure to local career opportunities and business challenges. After an orientation featuring a business panel, teachers will spend two days visiting businesses in high priority occupation sectors. Their experiences will be used to create career-focused curriculum and classroom instruction to prepare students for the workplace of the future.
The pace is a little slower in the summer but if you’re looking for networking, we have two joint happy hour events in August: One with the Rotary Club of Upper Perk at the East Greenville Fire Company, and the other with five chambers at Pope John Paul II in Royersford. At the end of August, we’ll host our Legislative Affairs Series Breakfast with Congresswoman Madeleine Dean at the Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center. The pace picks up in early fall with the Golf Outing & Clambake and is followed by Red, White & Brew Networking at Coun-try Creek Winery and the Upper Perkiomen Valley Annual Chamber Celebration event in October at the new St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Hospi-tal – celebrating the Hometown Hero Banner Program and featuring our local restaurants.
As you read through this month’s newsletter, think about how you can become more involved – it’s YOUR Chamber. It can be as simple as picking up the phone and personally welcoming a new member and/or congratulating an award recipient. Or, consider helping us welcome new members and strengthen the membership by joining the Ambassadors Council. The value of your membership grows whenever you’re actively involved.
103 Hometown Hero Banners lining the major roadways pay homage to individuals with ties to the Upper Perkiomen Valley who are serv-ing, or have served our country in the United States Armed Forces.
PerkUp and the UPV Chamber are proud to champion this tribute. The program is coordinated by Kasey Schultz in conjunction with co-chair Bill Gillespie, Gillespie Electric, Inc. and a committee with repre-sentatives from local veterans’ organizations: Dave Scholl and Dan Mack, Tri-Boro Detachment 568 of the Marine Corps League; Tim Rom, American Legion Post 184; Charles Scavitto and Jon Beadle, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5954; Jake Leone and Bob Mazza,
Vets for Vets; and Paul Decker, Red Hill Borough. A program of this scale requires many partners. Please share our thanks with East Greenville, Pennsburg, and Red Hill boroughs and Up-per Hanover Township who have taken responsibility for the installation, removal and storage of the banners each year.
Sponsorships for the program are greatly appreciated, as the fee for the banners does not cover the expenses of the program. The Cham-
ber is thankful for the financial support of member businesses: Falk Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., Gillespie Electric, Inc., The Grand
Theater, Knoll, Inc., Lechner & Stauffer, Inc., St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scooty's Auto Service & Sales, Univest - Banking,
Insurance, Investments, US Tape Company and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5954. Please let us know if you are interested in supporting
this community-wide endeavor.
The Hometown Hero Banner Program will be the focus of the UPV Chamber Annual Celebration on Thursday, November 9 at the new St.
Luke’s Upper Bucks Hospital. Plan to join us as we celebrate the success of the program, acknowledge the sponsors and honor those who
have served.
The banners will be on display from Memorial Day until Veterans Day to celebrate and remind our community of their dedication to our country. Applications are now being accepted for the 2020 program. www.upvchamber.org/hometownheroes
As you drive past the banners, remember the sacrifices of those being honored and feel proud to live in a community committed to celebrat-ing their service.

A group of young professionals from four local chambers have been meeting to organize joint events targeting the under 40 age group. Representatives from Indian Valley, Pennridge, Upper Bucks, and Up-per Perkiomen Valley chambers planned the first 4-Chamber Young Professional Networking event on June 5, 2019 at Free Will Brewing Company. It was a sold-out event with a diverse turnout of businesses throughout the region. The goal of the Young Professional Networking is to provide events to connect young professionals of all backgrounds in the local communi-ties for personal and professional development. Cory Burkhart, Gilles-pie Electric, Inc.; Morgan Sweeney, Lechner & Stauffer, Inc.; and Sarah Barndt, The Barndt Agency, Inc. represented the UPV Chamber. Let us know if you’re interested in being involved in future events and keep an look out for the fall gathering, which will be promoted through the four participating chambers. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event an accomplishment and we look forward to continued success!
