Sold with a letter from Cyril Jacklin, dated April 6th 1971 addressed to Alfredo Campoli, Jacklin describes the violin in detail and attributes it to the work of Joseph Rocca. He also names the violin as the ‘Irish’ Rocca (Ex-Keenan). This possibly refers to Edward Keenan, who was a talented violin maker and restorer in Dublin.

Also sold with a signed letter from Alfredo Campoli, dated July 20th 1984, confirming transfer of ownership to R. MacDonald (Father of the current owner).

Throughout his career Alfredo Campoli owned various fine instruments, perhaps the most famous was the Dragonetti Stradivarius of 1700, though mainly he used a violin by Joseph Rocca for concerts, and by repute owned three or four by Rocca throughout his long career.
