Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation

Worship in TruthWe must worship in truth. Worship is not just an emotional exercise but a response of the heart built on truth about God. “The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth” (Psalm 145:18). Worship that is not based on God’s Word is but an emotional encounter with oneself.

Communion and Fellowship LuncheonNext Sunday, February 2, we will observe the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper during Morning Worship. All communing members of Christ Church are urged to be pres-ent. Following the service we will enjoy our monthly Fellowship Luncheon in Covenant Hall. Fried chicken will be provided for a donation of any amount. Members are asked to bring a generous side dish, salad or dessert to share, and visitors are warmly invited to attend. Please use the response form inserted in today’s bulletin to indicate the number of adults and children who will attend. You may alternately respond via the ‘Fellowship Meal Signup’ link on the Welcome page of our church website, www.christchurchpres.org.

Other AnnouncementsYouth Gatherings – Tonight following Evening Worship the Youth of Christ Church will gather for a time of fellowship and to enjoy a chili supper in Covenant Hall. The Youth will also meet this Wednesday from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. That evening a snack sup-per at 6:30 will be followed by a time of activities and music, then teaching and prayer led by Lee Self. All young people in sixth grade and above are encouraged to attend these opportunities for fellowship and spiritual growth.

Men’s Prayer Breakfast – This Saturday morning holds our monthly weekend Men’s Prayer Breakfast, when we will gather in Covenant Hall from 7:45 until 9:00, enjoying the fellowship of Christian brothers around a homemade breakfast and the sharing of our reflections on A. W. Tozer’s book, The Pursuit of God, before a time of prayer. Plan to take part in this unique opportunity.

Sports Fan Outreach in New York City – In connection with the 13th annual Super Bowl Outreach, the ministry of Sports Fan Outreach headed by an Anglican street preacher and evangelist, Bill Adams of Atlanta, some one hundred ministers will receive training from the staff and teaching on Homiletics from Dr. Oliver during their ministry in New York City January 30 through February 2. Pray for many conversions to be a result from street preaching.

Everyday Evangelism – Everyday Evangelism (Ev2) builds on the Share Your Faith Work-shop held this past Saturday. Beginning February 4, five teams will be spending time in preparatory devotions, classroom instruction and boots–on–the–ground training. Scrip-ture verses, stories and transitions will strengthen each person’s ability to communicate the Gospel message. The teams will meet at 6:30 each Tuesday evening for seven weeks. Pray for these teams as they will be sharing the Good News of Christ and His salvation with people in the Augusta area. If you desire to be on a team, please contact Glynn Dyer at 706–832–0830.

Pictorial Directory – The Pictorial Directory is being revised to include new members and updated information. If you would like an updated picture in the revision, please contact Glynn Dyer at 706–832–0830 or [email protected]. Updated information will be based on the recent database update sheets mailed to members and regular at-tenders. If you have not yet had the opportunity to return that sheet to the office, please do so at your earliest convenience. If you did not receive a database update letter, please call the church office, 706–210–9090.

Ministry Opportunity: Ushers – Additional ushers are needed to assist during our Morning and Evening Worship services. If you are interested in serving in this way, please contact John Norkus, 706–860–4311, or Ed Russell, 706–860–4211.

WelcomeThank you for joining us in worship today! Our hope is that as the Word is preached, as prayers are lifted up, and as hymns and anthems are sung, you will be blessed by the corpo-rate worship of the triune God and will return to worship with us again soon. One of our Elders will be stationed near the piano following the service should you desire to know more about Christ Church, how to become a member here, or how to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Officer Ordination and InstallationWe rejoice in and give thanks for the Lord’s provision of four officers to serve at Christ Church in the class of 2016. Our congregation elected Will Crews and Barry Smith to serve as deacons and John Dunsmore and Mark Walters to serve as elders. The ordination and installation of these men occurs during this morning’s service. Be in prayer that the Lord will help them to serve His church with great joy, energy and effectiveness for His glory.

Evening WorshipCome, gather with God’s people this evening in worship at 6:00 as we consider together the blessing and battle of life enriched and empowered by the Spirit. Pastor Jones will deliver the message from Galatians 5:16–24, “Living by the Spirit.”

† The Confession of Faith ................................................... The Apostles’ Creed I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth;

And in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic* Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen. (*universal)

† The Doxology (Trinity Hymnal No. 731) ........................................old hundredth

The Offertory Anthem .............................................................................Hayes

Be in my life, be in my breath, be in my walk, be in my rest, Be in this humble heart of mine; be ever present in my mind. Be in my hands, be in my feet; be in my eyes and in my speech. Be in the smile I give away; be in each healing word I say. Be in my work, be in my play; be in the struggles of each day. Be in my joy, be in my pain; be in my loss, be in my gain. Be in my thoughts, be in my song; be in my spirit all day long. Be in my prayers at dawn’s first light; be in my dreams all through the night. Amen. The prayer of my heart forever shall be, “I in You, Lord, and You in me.”

Scripture MemoryIf we are to wield the Sword in battle, we must wear it in our daily lives. Let us together, then, put on the Sword of the Spirit by memorizing and meditating upon this week’s Navigator verse: “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You” (Isaiah 26:3; Navigator topic: Relying on God’s Resources).
