bjectives: To examine the accuracy of
computer-guided im
plantation using a human
cadaver model w
ith reduced experimental
variability.
Materials and m
ethods: Twenty-eight (28)
dental implants representing 12 clinical cases
were placed in four cadaver heads using a static
guided implantation tem
plate. All planning and
surgeries were perform
ed by one clinician. All
radiographs and measurem
ents were perform
ed by tw
o examiners. The distance of the im
plants from
buccal and lingual bone and mesial im
plant or tooth w
as analyzed at the apical and coronal levels, and m
easurements w
ere compared to the
planned values.
Results: N
o significant differences were seen
between planned and im
planted measurem
ents. Average deviation of an im
plant from its planning
radiograph was 0.8 m
m, w
hich is within the range
of variability expected from C
T analysis.
Conclusions: G
uided implantation can be used
safely with a m
argin of error of 1 mm
.
