The great stele created by the artist Rolf Schaffner and standing at Pontàs in Cala Santanyí cannot fail to impress visitors, and is part of his international project “Equilibrio” (Equilibrium). The idea for this project arose in 1995 and consisted of placing five sculptu-res in different places in Europe: Trondheim (Norway), Santanyí (Majorca/Spain), Volgograd (Russia), Cork (Ireland) and Bensberg (Cologne/Germany), the latter being placed in 2009. These sculptures propose a spiritual union in the form of a cross between the five countries. Rolf Schaffner named this cross as the new meridians of peace. “Equilibrio” symbolizes the equilibrium that the stones in these sculptures maintain, one on top of the other, and also recall the precise equilibrium of our ecosystem.

EPILOGUE

The idea behind the European sculpture "Equilibrio" has not lost importance for us. Preserving peace, living in harmony with nature and relying on understanding rather than confrontation is more important than ever.

If we could go forward together with the International Youth Meeting on this way, we are very happy.

In this sense, it is an honor to preserve the work of Rolf Schaffner.
