2 CORPUS CHRISTI WELCOME TO HOLY NAME OF MARY

FROM THE PASTOR June 3, 2018 3

My dear Graduates, Anthony de Mello shares the following story: “Why is everyone here so happy except me?” “Because they have learned to see goodness and beauty everywhere,” said the Master. “Why don’t I see goodness and beauty everywhere?” "Because you cannot see outside of you what you fail to see inside." Ways to see beauty involves at least six things and maybe more:

Make sure that self care and positive choices are first on your priority list.

Willingly set down the pain of your history and travel forward, not defining yourself with it, or

limiting yourself by it.

Observe the words that fill your days and choose compliment over complaint. Be willing to

discuss what went RIGHT.

Daily visit the truth that, while you may not play all the instruments, you with God’s help conduct

the orchestra. Own your life. Give meaning to the choices you make. Live as a victor, not as a

victim.

Be prepared to celebrate at all times. Live in and create an environment around you that is ready

and open to guests, of all kinds, especially those in need.

Be flexible. Invite possibilities to your party. This means letting go of absolute specifics of how you

think it should be and embrace the unexpected, the messy, the surprising, the startling and the

extraordinary as welcome guests, at your festivity which is life itself.

Do all this with an attitude of gratitude for all the blessings you have and are. My dear friends remember always the Original Whisper of God in the midst of so many voices. “You are my beloved son/daughter in whom I am we'll pleased.” This is your Divine Identity which quickly gets lost in our messy humanity. Remember whose you are. Remember where you came from. Your divine origin is from God. Your human origin from parents who loved each other so much you are here today. All our major problems start when we forget where we came from. Terry Hershey reminds us:

“What if life is not about finishing on top, but knowing when to stop.

What if life is not about learning to live with stress but learning to live with less.

What if life is not about pushing yourself to the limit, but embracing every minute.

What if life is not about constant action, but eliminating distraction.

What if life is not about what you chase, but resting in God's grace." Don't be afraid of death. All of us die but not all of us fully live. There really is nothing we can do to prepare for death but every night before you go to bed know what you are grateful for and every morning who or what makes you want to get out of bed. Mary Oliver says, "The greatest gift in life is when my soul claps for yours more than it does for myself." I pray that, that may be a reality for all if us. Know as you take your next step in life I and many others are with you to help...if you let us. With love, prayers and continued support, Fr. Rich, SS.CC.

WHY REGISTER IN THE PARISH

Often people may attend Mass at a certain parish for several years, but never register. In our society, sometimes a person may feel more comfort-able at a particular parish whether or not it is the geographical area where the person lives. When a pastor accepts the registration, he also accepts the responsibility of their spiritual care. Parish registration creates a two-fold obligation: on one hand, the pastor is obligated to support the mission and needs of the parish and its parishioners; on the other hand, the individual takes on the obligation to support the mission and needs of the parish and his/her fellow parishioners. We strongly encourage you to register, even if you do not wish to receive weekly contribution envelopes. Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and to make a commitment to the life of Holy Name of Mary community. Being a registered parish-ioner makes the process much easier when you wish to participate in a par-ish ministry, or when it is time for infant baptism, school or religious educa-tion registration, weddings, when asked to be a baptismal or confirmation sponsor, and even funerals. A registered parishioner receives all parish mailings. Once you are registered, please notify the parish office of any changes in address or phone number. We are so gifted with many wonderful people who have lived parish life in an admirable way! We are so proud of our liturgical ministers, our school and religious education families, our music ministers, the caring peo-ple of our parish who work with the bereaved, the sick, our children and teens, all those who participate in the Mass, and sacraments and devo-tions….and we invite you to be ONE with us!

INCREASE IN OFFERTORY The parishioners at Holy Name of Mary are extremely generous to the parish and other needs. Your willingness to give has allowed us to create almost 100 ministries in which we have helped thousands of people in the community over the years. As the economy has improved, our operating costs have risen with inflation at an average of 3% yearly. This includes, expanded ministries, increases in health care costs, the need for staff pay raises and other rising expenses. Please consider an increase in their of-fertory if your situation allows. This would help us keep pace with inflation and continue to provide the wonderful experience that is Holy Name of Mary. Thanks in advance for your consideration and God bless you for all you do for your parish.

Pius XII These four young men received their Boy Scouts Pius XII Emblems during a beautiful mass celebrated at Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral on Sunday, May 27, 2018. Mr. Frank Nordhoff, an active parishioner at St. Dorothy in Glendora, was their facilitator for the Pius XII pro-gram. We’re blessed his faith is so strong that he hosts this program in his home every fall & that he came to our troop meeting one day last fall to enlighten the boys about it. Congratulations, HNM is proud of your accomplishment!

MY GRADUATION PRAYER

Dear God, how wonderful it is to have reached this graduation ceremony and I thank You that You have been with me throughout my education. Lord may it be a time of great fellowship and fun for all of us – (students and teachers as well as friends and family) - and thank You for all the good friends I have made and for all that I have learned as I have worked my way through this time of schooling. Thank You for the skills that I have ac-quired and the teachers that have taught me so tirelessly. Thanks for all my friends and family that have been so supportive and for the for many lessons that I have learned. Lord it is an exciting and yet a daunting thing to realize that a whole chapter of my life is just about to close and a new phase of life is beginning. Be with me Lord I pray as I step out into the un-known and ask that You would lead and guide me through all the ups and downs of life that are likely to accompany me along this untried journey. Amen.

Estes dispuesto a

Rich, SS.CC.

DID YOU KNOW? TALK TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT HANDLING WORKPLACE VIOLENCE Many teens will get their first job while still in high school. Building a

work ethic is a great and necessary skill, but teens need to be in-formed to about how best to handle possible workplace violence. Coworkers are not always thoroughly screened, and your teen could face another employee’s rage or anger that could possible put them in danger. Talk to your teens about warning signs—short tempers, intimidation, drug use—and about how to remove themselves when they feel unsafe in a situation, and how to report any concerns they have, to a safe adult. For a copy of the complete VIRTUS® article “What Can You Do to Help Prevent Workplace Violence?” vis-it http://www.la-archdiocese.org/org/protecting/Pages/VIRTUS-Current-Online-Articles.aspx.
