Family Perspectives
By Bud Ozar
Today’s gospel tells us God actually
wants to take up residence in your
family. “We will come and make our
home with you.” Every family is
called to be a tabernacle where God
dwells. Is Jesus a permanent
member of your family or a
temporary guest? Today the promise
is given. The choice is ours.

4 Steps to Marriage CPR:
1.Patience. It took time for your
relationship to need resuscitation; it
will take time for it to get well again.
2.Determination. Choose to be
committed to each other for life; work
together with zeal to heal any hurts.
3.Forgive and accept forgiveness.
4.Pursue truth. Communicate openly
and honestly. (adapted from Family
Minute)

The Re-igniting Our Faith Campaign which our diocese has undertaken gives Saint Peter’s the opportunity to raise funds for the current needs of our church like roof repair, enlarged entry and restrooms and many others. It also allows for the support of future parish needs and to a lesser extent those of our diocese. This sacrificial pledge is meant to be fulfilled over a five-year period by whatever means and schedule we choose.
When considering at what level God may be calling us to participate, prayerful discernment is course suggested. That is the way we always learn God’s call.
Bishop Scharfenberger has suggested that we consider a pledge of twice our annual church contributions, plus our Bishop’s Appeal donation. This to be fulfilled over five years.
As you discern what your contribution to the Re-Igniting Our Faith Campaign might be, the following examples may be of some value.
Case One: A household gives $10 a week to the parish’s collection and $250 a year to the Bishop’s Appeal. Those donations would total $770. Doubling that brings the total to $1,540.
Case Two: A household gives $35 a week to the parish’s collection and $500 a year to the Bishop’s Appeal. Those donations would total $2,320. Doubling that brings the total to $4,640.
Case Three: A household gives $50 a week to the parish’s collection and $1,000 a year to the Bishop’s Appeal. Those donations would total $3,600. Doubling that brings the total to $7,200.
These totals may seem frightening, at first. But, if divided over five years, Case One requires a daily gift of only $.85. Case Two requires a daily gift of $2.55, and Case Three is a daily gift of just under $4.
Consider that a $5 a day gift over five years would yield a gift of almost $10,000, and a gift of $10 a day would result in a gift of more than $18,000.
This formula may seem impossible at first; this campaign is a challenge. But, we cannot let fear be the end of our discernment, for this campaign is vital to the future of our parish and the diocese.
