Welcome I am pleased to announce the preliminary program and call for abstracts for the 6th Iberian and 3rd Iberoamerican Congress of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology: “The Environment: A challenge for the scientific research”. This Congress follows the philosophy of previous CICTA events, the last one celebrated in Porto (Portugal), offering a new opportunity to discuss problems related with environmental contamination and toxicology. The assistance of colleagues from the Iberian and Latin American scientific community as well as from other regions adds further values to this event allowing the strengthening of relations between scientists from different continents and the promotion of new collaborations apart from the already existing. In the framework of the Congress, the General Assembly of the Iberoamerican Society for Environmental Contamination and Toxicology (SICTA) will be celebrated. In this occasion, the new Directive Committee for the next two years will be voted. Finally, I hope to welcome you soon in Cadiz, at the CICTA in September 2005.

Best regards, Julián Blasco President of SICTA

Cadiz is located in the South-West of the Iberian Peninsula, being a city with a long marine tradition since its foundation in approximately 1100 a.C. According to the mythology, it was Hercules who founded the city and giving it the name Gadir.

Cadiz is a city full of life. To get an idea about the town, one has to walk around without hurry, talk with the people, know the parks with their millenarian plants, enjoy the moment in terraces and bars…but always with the typical andalusian character.

A tour through the history of Cadiz and its monuments as well as other interesting sites can be downloaded from the following Internet site: www.cadiznet.com/guia/
